Since Game Informer bases that list on personal opinion and not based on critical reception, sales, following, or any other aspects, I wouldn't put much interest on the article.

That's funny, because I don't recall a lot of people liking Final Fantasy XIII yet there it is. I actually liked it though.

I liked it too... just not really in the sense that it was a great RPG.

(Though anything without some form of character creation strains my personal definition of an RPG to begin with)

It did give way for Dress up lightning: The video game though.

That it does for me too. Also add the ability of the customization of the character. I mean everything. face, eyes, hair, nose, etc, everything. imo an RPG must have that.

Gameinformer granted the game a 9/10 -- In fact, a lot of self-proclaimed "GAYME JOURNALISTS" appointed it with a ranking of 8/10, thus critical reception most definitely is a factor for this list, if anything. Most of these titles were hyped up by reviews but some were disliked by the general public.

It was 9/10 for Fang, true story.

The general consensus among fans and critics alike, is that original Dark Souls is far, far better than its sequel.

Soooo...the list is kind of a combination of the results of both personal opinion of the site moderators/onwers AND fan and journalists reviews?  think that makes sense.

Are you sure its not just possible that the guy who wrote it simply liked the game and decided to put it on.

That's how it usually is but since you didn't provide a source I can't make a coherent statement on the matter. At Gametrailers, for instance, these kinds of lists are affected by what was best received, but also with a bit of bias added into it. But usually one would always see several mainstream titles on the lists despite how they might have been received by fans themselves.

LOL this list and people wonder why developers continue to release streamlined games that hold your hand in everything and are boring piece of sh!t games with no longevity well here you have the problem, people apparently likes them and proffesional gaming journalism my ass.

People like Diablo 3 ? auto attribute distribution lol, next to no build diversity and terribad story/dialogue even by diablo esque games standard and the list goes on.

I did not provide the source because the language of the source is not in fact english. So it will be almost impossible for them to make anything of it for others.

Read the OP again -- It's quite clearly a list that was conceived by Gameinformer, that is to say, several people -- considering the titles that are on it and how mixed received some of them were it is thus easy to argue how the actual list was affected by both bias & general reception.

I thought it was said that the "gameinformer owner/chairman" wrote the list and was heavily influenced by his own liking and taste.

It isn't, if you simply take a look at the source I just provided to the user above.

I see now.

I think a beter part to add was where they said that they were having debates about what to choose.

But its good enough.

Recently GameInformer released a ranking of top ten RPG games for the previous gen consoles. And for the sake of variety in the list and ranking, only one game of each franchise is mentioned. In the ranking combinations of genres with RPG ilike action RPG or RTS RPG are taken into account. here is the list.

10- Final Fantasy XIII
9 - Valkyria Chronicles
8 - Dragon Age: Origins
7 - Xenoblade Chronicles
6 - Diablo III
5 - The Witcher 2
4 - Dark Souls II
3 - Fallout 3
2 - Mass Effect 2
1 - The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim

What do you think?

It's a predictable list. I can't really argue too much with it ( except for FFXIII, how did that turf get on the list ). I do have issues with the order of certain titles on it.

If you want actual personal Top 10s, then there are few spread around the net on forums, GameFaqs etc. plus RPGfan.net (They let their writers make their own list when doing Top GOTY stuff to provide variety, which is nice, but they also got a consensus list) then you can probably find a few on Youtube too.
