The only ones on that list that I remotely agree with is Origins and Skyrim, and I would hardly place Skyrim over Origins, in fact Oblivion was a much better game imho.

I don't like the list, but it's their list.

So.  If we disregard those vocal minorities and go with what the majority of the gamers, (based on what I've seen,) then yeah, the list is about right.  I think people here are just butthurt because their personal favorites are not number one on the list, and all the Japanophiles would not be happy unless the entire list is filled with JRPG.

Where is the census that the majority of gamers agree that Skyrim is the #1 RPG of last gen? Most people who talk RPG either mention Dark Souls, The Witcher 2, New Vegas or Dragon Age: Origins as the best RPG of last gen. Just look at any forum that isn't Gamespot or Bethesda and most people share this view. The majority opinion here was that Skyrim was overrated, same goes for the Obsidian forums, CD Projekt forums and Larian forums. Hell, just look at the comments in that article, people don't even agree with Skyrim being #1 on it.

Again, there's no Deus Ex Human Revolution or Divinity Original Sin on the list whilst Final Fantasy XIII somehow makes it there. This is why game journalism has become a joke. XIII being there has got to be Gameinformer trolling and it's a job well done I'd say considering it's got this discussion going.

I can't completely agree with the list.  I've played all of them except for Dark Souls II

I'd have DA:O #1.  I'd also have ME1 on the list instead of ME2.  As for FF XIII, wow, if I made a worst ten list I FF XIII would much have a better chance of being on there.  I hated the game, and it's not too many games I can say that about.

Agree with DAO, ME2, Fallout 3 and TW2. Though I wouldn't put them in that order. Personally, I find Skyrm to be extremely boring and believe the only reason it gets so much praise is because it's extremely popular with casual gamers.

Only JRPG I've ever played is Chrono Trigger so I can't debate those.

I'm probably going to get much hate for this but i would remove, DA:O,Mass Effect 2, Skyrim and DIablo 3 from the list because i found them all very boring and i don't play console exclusive games so i wouldn't know about the other ones such as  Valkyria Chronicles, Xenoblade, FF etc.

Dark Souls II is a good game don't get me wrong but i liked Dark Souls better except the port.

Every time people talks about Fallout New Vegas it's all about the bugs but again it's not the same for everyone, i have shItloads of time spent in New Vegs and have only encountered a few bugs, nothing game breaking and only a single crash.

I know but i meant Xenoblade, Final Fantasy and Valkyria Chronicles not DA:O.

I guess i should have been clearer with that.

Haven't played FFXII, Valkyria, Xenoblade, or Dark Souls 2.

For the rest, I would replace Mass Effect 2 with the first, Skyrim with Oblivion, and take Diablo 3 off the list entirely. Diablo 3 was one of my biggest disappointments of the last generation, and probably in all of gaming.

I'd also list Witcher 2 as my best RPG of the last generation.

The list is supposed to be last gen RPGs, and Original Sin is technically a current gen RPG considering it was only fully released about a month ago. As amazing as it may or may not be, it doesn't really have a place on a list about last gen games.

Although despite being much more action/stealth than RPG, I would agree that Human Revolution should be on the list.

I will never understand why some people think Oblivion is better than Skyrim. Like nobody even remembers how broken and unintuitive Oblivion's gameplay and character leveling are. Or how mundane and uniform Oblivion's world is. I can at least understand arguments for Morrowind being better than Skyrim, but Oblivion, heck no.

I wouldn't put Skyrim No. 1 on this list by a long shot, though. Maybe more in the bottom half of the list but it should be on there.

Replace Fallout 3 with New Vegas, for sure. New Vegas should be No. 1.

Also bump off Diablo 3 (lol that's not an RPG) and FFXIII (utter garbage).

Hey if Diablo 3 is on the list, might as well put Skyward Sword on the list. It's as much a RPG as Diablo 3.

And even worse of a game. (And I'm no fan of Diablo 3, either.)

New Vegas isn't on the list but Diablo 3 is? Huh.

It wasn't a great Zelda game but it was a good game on its own.

All in all it's really not too shocking of a list to me. I kinda expected most of them on there, kinda surprised about final fantasy 13 though. Really wasn't that good imo.

Well I already hate this list. Diablo 3, skyrim at the top. FF13?!?!?!

I know, man, FF XIII should be, like, number 2.

People are forgetting that a JRPG is a different beast than a Western RPG. FF XIII pretty much fits the bill, has just about the best combat in the series (XII, aka "the game Dragon Age Origins ripped off," has seriously good combat too), and has a tight plot (as well as pretty decent characterization). The freedom is lacking severely, but that's only one pillar.

As for Oblivion and Skyrim, I personally liked the world of Oblivion moreso. It's far more advanced than Skyrim--the most advanced cities in Skyrim are extremely rustic, there's nothing like the Imperial City. And there's nowhere near the name number of NPCs. You could argue that they're more in-depth, but I would say that for TES's case, more is just as important as how much you can do with them.

FFXIII has no plot unless you read the Databank. Which is not actually ... playing the game. And the characters are not only the worst FF has ever had, but are some of the worst in video game history.

And I prefer to think of FFXII as the game with good concepts and bad execution that Dragon Age: Origins did a million times better.

Morrowind is the only good elder scrolls game.

Completely wrong. As someone who first played without reading the Datalog, I got the plot just fine.

The hyperbole isn't even worth addressing.

What concepts do you think the two games shared?

I'm no Final Fantasy expert, but both shared an interest in taking a more action-oriented approach(though F13 tried to find a happy medium between queued turn-based attacks and action-y movements, whereas FF12 might feel more akin to a classical MMO).

You can get FFXIII's story without datalogs, but it never really impressed me. The combat scheme and characters were the defining points to me for that game. Calling the game junk is pretty extreme.

Well I'd put either DA:O or TW2 as number one, but I'd still keep Skyrim on there. I'd take D3 out too. I didn't hate it but it was disappointing and it uses the RPG in ARPG very loosely. I think FF13 should be taken out (I still like FF13 but no where near a top 10 imo.) and replace it with Lost Odyssey, that game is soooo much better than FF13. And lastly I'd replace ME2 with ME. I think Dark Souls is better than Dark Souls II but I'm okay with DS2 I suppose. But that's just what I'd do lol.

Also can someone explain to me why Fallout: New Vegas is better than 3? I'm seeing alot of folks post that and honestly (maybe I have weird tastes) I think New Vegas was boring I couldn't get more than 15 hours before I gave up and went back to Fallout 3.

FF XIII has literally the same combat experience as FF VII except you only control one party member. The same.

I'll agree that the story in and of itself probably wasn't completely innovative, but I think the lore of the game world makes it pretty neat. The idea of the Fal'Cie and the gods.

Bcuz Obsidian, I would say.

No Persona 3,4, Nocturne, NV, devil survior 1+2, DDS, Dues Ex:HR and junk like Skyrim, FF13, FO3, Diablo 3 and ME2 are on the list? Give me a break.

Why would 6th generation games show up on a list about the 7th generation?
