Merrill had her own cultural and religious beliefs; that doesn't make her delusional. Varric also made an effort to protect Anders and his clinic; he looked out for his friends, apparently; I wouldn't be surprised if he stepped in for an apostate Hawke as well, given his close friendship with Ser Thrask.
what makes her delusional is her trust in a demon's fairness, ignorance of the danger she is in while living in Kirkwall, etc...
They aren't the ones saying it doesn't matter.
Because I don't want them thinking they can drive us off.
if they won't invade because of demons you'd think Tevinter would have been able to turn the tide given their proclivity towards blood magic and such
Which would strike me as evidence that Tevinter didn't actually summon that many demons. If Warden's Keep is any indication, summoning them in the middle of a pitched battle will lead to very probable loss of control.

Merrill doesn't trust Audacity's fairness; the spirit is sundered from the Beyond and trapped in a real world because it was bound to a statute during the war between Arlathan and Tevinter. It is relatively impotent to do much except communicate and send visual images, which is why it has been trapped for well over a millennia. Merrill even admonishes Anders over thinking that there was such a thing as a good spirit.
That's what you get when you make Sten the Arishok.
The vast majority of the Qunari armed forces have been reduced to rolling balls of fat, this is cleverly disguised by having them all wear sliming colors.
tevinter are the only nation able to hold them back for a reason ^^

First of all there are good spirits, such as the one who helped Wynne
and iirc she doesn't excuse working with him that way, she only says that it was necessary

You would be driven off by ignoring them? That's an odd stance to take. Particularly over something that apparently doesn't matter.

It matters because it doesn't matter because they would win if we let it not matter!

If you're Andrastian, then you think some spirits can be good or beneficial; to the Dalish, all spirits are dangerous.

Merrill said she needed to learn blood magic from Audacity to cleanse the shard given how she lacked the sufficient amount of lyrium to cleanse it with ordinary magic.

Arguably Justice was one too before Anders happened.

That turned out even worse than mixing ammonia with bleach.

How dare she have the Audacity! Had to go for it ![]()
The Chantry's martial strength did not come from the Templars, but from their ability to call an Exalted March and summon secular armies to their cause.
My point still stands. They no longer possess this ability, seeing as they lack both a Divine to call a march, and armies that aren't either preoccupied or incapacitated.

Then the Dalish are just simply wrong about that
So she does not justify it by saying that Audacity was trapped correct? She never mentions it, meaning she was either unaware of it and still consorted with him, or she was aware and never mentioned it ever for reasons

True
Anyway Jedi how long you reckon this thread's got left?
Then the Dalish are just simply wrong about that
I disagree. Valor can prove dangerous to the apprentice mage protagonist in the Beyond, while Justice can prove a danger to the Warden-Commander at the Dragonbone Wastes by taking a side that Justice disagrees with.

Merrill is aware that Audacity is trapped; it's brought up in the short story.

Yet both of those spirits are fundamentally good in nature, they are noot concerned with ensnarement of mortals or b ecoming abominations, they seek to right wrongs, inspire others, help mortals.
Then you can't use it as a defense for Merril's behavior
The Dalish use the "all spirits are dangerous" as an excuse to talk and deal with them, "carefully".
How many times did they get owned by these dangerous spirits?

*looks at forbidden one murdering its way across the country* hmm

I'd be interested to know how you made the leap from 'temporary situation' to 'permanent loss'.

I'm counting 2x as of now.

It's a matter of perception that those spirits can be viewed as good; thus far, I don't see anything that invalidates the Dalish view that all spirits are dangerous, since even the "good" spirits you mentioned can prove dangerous to the protagonist.
Then you can't use it as a defense for Merril's behavior
I don't see why, as it addresses that Merrill is aware of the fact that Audacity is trapped, and it's something that's explicitly pointed out by Merrill in Act III.
I'm counting 2x as of now.
I'm coming up with 3. 1. Zathrian and the Lady of the Forest. 2. Merrill and Audacity. 3. The clan from TME and the "spirit".
Merrill isn't aware that Audacity is trapped; it's brought up in the short story.
The hell she doesn't lol.
He literally says to both her and Marethari: "I am One Who is Trapped".
