It's not all butterflies and sunshine. The Dales would be buffer state between Orlais and Ferelden. When it comes time for them to throw down again Orlais will be handing out conscriptions all around. Elven soldiers would be viewed as expendable.

Operation: Get behind the knife ears.

I'm not saying that either. But it is better than what they currently have.

Personally i think Gaspard would be more agreeable to an elven puppet state then even Celene, not to mention he would actually have the clout to push that agenda, assuming he wanted to bother with it.

How would a corpse that doesn't know he is dead yet be more agreeable?  ;)

Not really, since I used a masculine pronoun in my sentence. :P

Bah, English with it's foolish singular gender specific syntax!

I hate to say it, but the Elvhen's best hope is King!Alistair. If he finds out Fiona's his mother (I really hate this lady) that could really change things for elves.

Wouldn't that also you know...sort of cause the Bannorn to boot him off his throne if that became public knowledge?

Not necessarily. Who'd be an alternative? Anora is quite possibly dead, and Eamon and Teagan, otherwise the strongest candidates, support Alistair.

He'd have to make it public first... which I'm assuming he's smart enough not to.

Maybe. Fereldan is not the best place for quick change as the power lies with the landed nobles, the Bannorn can just say "no" to supporting elves and alistair can't do much. If you want change in Fereldan, you start with individual banns and then spread influence until you reach the king to enforce policy over the holdouts.

That's a joke if i ever heard one, You think those supporters would be supporters if it came out their King was a half blood?

They want him on the throne because of the Therrin blood, that was the only qualification he really needed; But that dies the minute it's revealed the other half is elf, So basically i can see it being fairly feasible, and far more likely then anything else that he would deposed.

The Cousland brother, forgot his name, could take the throne if Alistair loses favor.

I agree. But if we consider the epilogues Alistair becomes pretty popular. If he marries Anora he's popular and capable. It'd take some serious politicking and conniving, but I'd wager on the writer's pet finding a way to make it happen.

So? He still has Theirin blood, and there's no other heir. Teagan personally likes Alistair and I seriously doubt Eamon would throw away the bloodline based on that; everyone already knew Alistair was a bastard.

Fergus

The Couslands are huge royalists.

Fergus in a heartbeat.  The Couslands have already been contenders for the throne, and I fully expect the family to take over rulership of Ferelden when the Therin line ends with Alistair.

That seems to be the future of Fereldan. Alistair being a Warden and Anora not marrying anyone else, the future dynasty will be the Couslands.

Edit: meh, forget the Warden part, it just makes sense for couslands to take over.

God, I hope not. I'm so sick of the game practically giving the Couslands a hand job for being the Maker's greatest gift to Thedas since Andraste just for existing. If they took over the throne after Alistair and/or Anora stepped down, regardless of which Warden became the Hero of Ferelden, we would never hear the end of it from Cousland fanboys and girls expecting everyone in the forums to gush over the Cousland PC and family as much as the characters gush over them in the game.

Besides, I remember how elves were treated in Nan's kitchen in the Cousland Origin, and how her verbal abuse and threats were treated as normal, if not endearing. I wouldn't trust them to help with the elves' plight.

Ideally, years will have passed after Alistair and/or Anora drops off. I hope someone else becomes just as if not more qualified to take the throne by then.

Iona does say that the Couslands treat elves well.

Eh, that only happens in the HN origin itself; they're barely ever brought up if you don't have that background. I seriously doubt they'd be more emphasized than, say, the Aeducans in the future (and I seriously doubt Alistair will be dropped anytime soon).
