That makes no sense. The Hawke line certainly isn't noble, and if Hawke's only qualification was getting lots of money, she wouldn't be a noble in Act 2, but nouveau riche.

You do realzie that the concept of nouveau riche simply means that someone of lower class was able to attain higher class within his own generation, yes? Sort of EXACTLY like Hawke?

Alistair's kingly quality can be directly assessed in DA2 and the comics. Really, though, I think that all this will be irrelevant. I certainly hope it is, because I have no interest in Fereldan noble politics; having to deal with Orlais' crap will be quite enough.

Except the comics aren't canon.

And what did he do in DA2 2 that proved his kingly quality? Besides making another "swooping is bad" comment.

The Comics are about as accurate as the epilogue slides in the grand scheme of things.

They only occur if a set number of conditions are met after all.

If we're being technical here, as the eldest male of the Amell line, Gamlen would have been born into nobility, and been expected to carry on the noble family line. He gambled away all his possessions and any claims to nobility but it doesn't change the fact that Gamlen and Leandra were born into a noble family and were therefore nobles 'by blood'.

The Amells are what would be considered a lapsed noble family-one with noble origins but which had fallen into disrepute. These can be reinstated.

The Hawkes, as far as we know in-game were not a noble family.

As I said to Xil, Hawke garnered enough wealth to his name, that he was raised up to nobility status. It was uncommon in our world, but not unheard of. The opposite goes for nobles who squandered all their wealth. They would lose their status and become mere peasants.

I really can't imagine that Iona would say anything offensive to one of the most powerful nobles in the kingdom, but I believe Faerunner may have also been addressing that scene because of how the Cousland origin was supposed to put the player on the 'other side' of racism, according to the developers.

Ok, so what exactly was the "other side of racism" we were supposed to see?

All I'm seeing is some servants who were being treated well reggardless of their racial status.

Then I suppose all we can do is wait until DAI to see if it'll be addressed. Which it almost certainly won't, because the Couslands aren't important to the story.

There's nothing really to adress. It's just a curious detail.

In DAI, our Warden Commander was still a vassal of the Couslands. End of story.

Apparently being yelled at in a kitchen is the highest of racial crimes.

That much is true. Redcliff is an odd case; it's touted as being the only one strong and popular enough to challenge Loghain; maybe because its forces were not at Ostagar; there are no mentions in DAO of the Human Noble Warden or Loghain being Eamon's lord, Witch Hunt touts it as possibly becoming a city rivaling Denerim and Eamon's sister used to be queen.

And despite all of this, they are still only arls who are supposed to be below the Teyrns. They really should have made Redcliff a teyrnir. Highever in the North, Gwaren in the South and Redcliff in the West.

Recliffe could be a direct vassal of the King in that case

As far as I know Arlathan forest was never inhabited by humans even though there was no reason compelling them not to go there. The fact that humans settled in the Dales after ransacking the elven city is practically taunting the elves "muhaha you lost now we own your land". Couldn't they just leave the Dales be? I'm sure they didn't need the extra land. If I'm not wrong Dales is a thick forest and its not a usual location humans would settle in.

I'm hoping I can use an actual Eluvian in the game (and that it has a trippy dream sequence when entering :P). I want to use it for guerilla warfare, that would be so much fun.

The Inquisition may deal with Ferelden politics to the extent of gaining approval to establish bases of power in the region, and perhaps an elven Inquisitor may address the law prohibiting a person from killing a human in defense of an elf, as well as the Hinterlands situation (for players who chose the Dalish Boon).

For players who chose the Dalish Boon and are playing as an elven Inquisitor, I can imagine the latter would be a contentious issue, given the apparent loss of the region. It might impact options in Redcliffe since the region is currently part of their territory.

Because the kitchen elves apparently think they can serve foodstuffs to one of the highest ranking nobles in the entire country with dirt from the floor all over it.

-_- those elves needed to be whipped.

Was just skimming info about the Dales on the wiki and I'm reminded that after 700 years the Dales is still mostly elven. It seems a bit odd. I mean, why haven't the Orlesians colonized it more thoroughly?

Because it's like having two houses and one of them has an infestation of cockroaches. You live in the cleaner one and just stop by the second to pick up the mail.

Orlais likes to conquer lands; Nevarra, Kirkwall, and Ferelden can attest to this. The Chantry publicly supported the Orlesian occupation of Ferelden, as the two have a symbiotic relationship, which lead to Maric and Loghain contemplating dissolving the local Chantry. There's also the issue of converting the elves to the Andrastian faith, and criminalizing the elven religion.

Nice avatar, by the way.

It's very representative of historical expansionists- move army in, crush local religion and culture, leave new religion and culture behind in order to keep population submissive. If you have a powerful religious order, you gain their backing in exchange for the new converts and in return you get free good publicity.

It's clever, if rather despicable.

Nah.. It is just the usual Elf-brigade making sure people know how much of a victim the Elven race is.

Honestly i'd say the Eastern Roman Empire Method worked best.

You go in:enslave the local popIulation, force interbreeding between the locals and the conquerors to eradicate the sense of self, and then you take the entire current generation of the males and force them to be the vanguard in the legions, You can obliterate entire cultures, civilizations, in decades in this manner.

It produced more consistent results.

I think they'll make an experience, since I believe Briala will show up. Helping the elves may involve the utilization of the Eluvians. And I'm sure it'll be a euphoric experience for the elven protagonist. :D

Doesn't this imply that "we need your land" is a valid excuse for conquest?

Which it, y'know, isn't?

They did also introduce aqueducts and built ampitheatres to 'civilise' and entertain local populations, and funded local leadersto ensure their sympathy to Rome. The approach varied slightly depending on the attitude of the populations to Roman rule. Their methods were certainly brutally effective, but there was some carrot as well as stick :)

You realize how hard this would be for future games, right? Having the world's superpower come crashing down in some playhroughs but not in others will drastically affect the world state.

We supposedly will get 40 varied endings and be able to side with demons in one, which i'm assuming would completely ruin thedas and be very hard to implement if at all possible in future games. Hoping to bring down Orlais is minor compared to that. Since we are not sharing world states together an individuals playthrough is irrelevant
