http://www.toonzone....on-grow-up.html

I started a thread on toonzone and some people says that American animation being aimed mostly at kids and adult comedy have to do with the attitude of American viewers. Do you think they are right? I wish this attitude would change. I would love to see an epic animated sci fi show or movie with epic space and laser battles. For me I would want that show or movie to be set in the Mass Effect universe.

The problem is unlike Japan, in the US the general perception by the public is that animation isn't a serious story vehicle. The closest we get is Disney cartoons or some of the older Don Bluth films that while they were for kids they had real stories with depth to them enough so they were serious vessels for entertainment. The closest I have seen in more modern times and on TV were the DC Animated Universe especially Batman the Animated Series and Superman but again most geared towards kids but depth enough for adults.

With CGI becoming so popular I doubt your going to get people to take tradition 2D animation serious much longer all together. And considering the bomb that was Final Fantasy the Spirit Within I don't think your going to see a serious attempt and a truly older age group targeted CGI animated movie unless some studio head loses their mind and approves it.

Adventure Time is more gory and adult than most anime I watched.
