NeverwinterNights Vault Poll: Iceblink, NWN1, NWN2, or other?
http://neverwinterva...o-you-play-most
I play more NWN2.
xcom - open source
I haven't tried Iceblink, but in the past I have played NWN and NWN2 about equally--more the latter as time goes by.
What is Iceblink?
These days the only game I've been playing is SWTOR. I often find myself returning to NWN2 though because it allows me to create something from my imagination in a D&D world. If it wasn't for the toolset it would not have the claim on my free time that it does.

What is Iceblink?
Iceblink is a 2d isometric sprite based rpg engine made by slowdive_fan (the modder behind Chronicles of Charnia and Icewind Dale for NWN2), designed to replicate very old rpgs. It has a NWN style toolset for modding, like NWN, you can mod basically anything. Slowdive built it using a kickstarter (me made $4,000 or so). Iceblink games run on Windows and can be ported to Android. I've got all the Android releases on my phone. A couple of Iceblink games are on the Android app store:

I haven't yet tried Iceblink, but I've played FRUA games, its main inspiration, as well as a little DungeonCraft, which is another FRUA-like design engine. Iceblink uses SRD rules as far as I understand, though, and has SoZ-like party and dialogue features, so I would favour it over DungeonCraft now, I think.
I haven't actually seen any Iceblink games using an isometric perspective. The ones I've seen all use either a top-down perspective like JRPGs, or a sideways perspective.

I goofed. I confused isometric with the top down/sideways mix used.
I goofed, too -- the other engine I mentioned is Dungeon Craft, not DungeonCraft, which is a different thing.
I voted NWN 2 I am surprised at how many are NWN 1 still?

Im surprised you're surprised ![]()
From a modder and builders point of view, nwn1 is a better option, as far as custom content management, ease of use, amount of total custom content, and server management is far less difficult for players and admin both (each nwn2 pw must have sepeate files, unlike nwn1), as well as the fact nwn game worlds can be MUCH larger (NWN PW area max count = 400x NWN2's poetntial size), the toolset has a steeper learning curve, a lot of people dont like the interface of nwn2, despite the games technological improvements, the characters all look the same, the PWs are more numerous and have been developed longer, and a lot of other reasons explain why nwn1 is still 2x as popular as nwn2...
(my first impressions were that everyone slouches, and they replaced nwn1s superior doors with plcs, and how everyone looked as if they were generated by sims2...)
Personaly I like the outdoor and overland maps, and tintable/scalable creatures, but thats not enough to win me over as a modder if game looks ugly in general (esp the strange looking lighting system)...
I havent Played Iceblink yet, but i will when get the chance, as I had loads of fun with FRUA...
*shrug* To me, NWN2 just looks better in general and there's more flexibility in area design. I prefer the results I get modding for NWN2, which is why I focus my efforts on that area. To each their own... ![]()
I concur with RJS. I like things to look pretty ... call me shallow ![]()

Both of these are incorrect and sound like they may be based on an old understanding of nwn2. NWN2 has the ADL haks which are designed to be shared between servers in a CEP like package. NWN2 also has the auto-downloader, a player clicks connect to the PW in the ingame server browser and any content the player needs is automatically downloaded. There's also nothing to prevent a nwn2 PW from using tiles for exteriors and assigning the tiles "exterior" texturing, which would allow them to have the number of areas of NWN1.
No idea what the "strange looking light system" is, lighting in nwn2 is much improved over 1, though shadows can cause lots of performance problems.
I play all three, and as you can see on the poll, I voted Iceblink because it's what I've played most recently.
NWN2. I can't go back to NWN1 again, and don't want to either. NWN1 too blocky, it feels too regimented. In NWN2 I can make whatever I want, in terms of both areas and custom content. You could even replace the entire spellbook mechanic and all combat mechanics in NWN2. Nothing in NWN1 approaches that kind of versatility.
The NWN2 persistent worlds also support just as many areas as the NWN1 ones did, and on top that they often look far prettier. Its not superficial to appreciate pretty things. Its simply cultured to do so, and from that perspective I think NWN2 offers a superior design and custom content scene to the NWN1 ones.
And yes, as Kamal wrote the online NWN2 environment has an autodownloader for custom content and areas. Its just like NWN1 in that regard, except that it supports custom content too. I don't remember NWN1 supporting that (it just downloaded areas right?).
BTW, just my personal preference really (and echoing common complaints) in reply to query why 2/3 prefer nwn1 still ![]()
which makes me wonder, how many people who Do Not Mod play which game more
Or how many people are tired of all the NWN1 vs. NWN2 discussions?

Err... 2/3 of the people visiting a primarily NWN site prefer NWN more?
I think if you asked gamers in general, most don't like either game... so I think it would be better for all of us to post about the positive aspects of both games. Especially after certain patches and mods are applied.
I played NwN1 for many years, through all the expansions and modules though not much online.
To me NwN2 is better. I cannot live without stuff like Able Learner (feat), Quickcast, controllable companions, autodownloader and tons of races and prestige classes or the Warlock, to name a few stuff.
I made a list that I posted on another thread on what NwN2 does better than NwN1.
Certainly didn't mean to disparage NWN2 or its fans, but posted vote link here in the spirit of fairness BTW ![]()
