Considering the fact one of the themes of the game is supposed to be "faith" it actually makes more sense for them to leave us in the dark of who that spirit lady actually is.

And The Elder One would've gotten away with it too! If it weren't for you meddling inquisitors!

the big glowy angel thing and the title herald of andrastre to mean that WAS andrastre,

since we have seen neither directly nor thru reports any comaparabel beings from other faiths it really suggests that the Maker is real, meaning the only argument left is over doctorine.

No it does not. (see Monthy Python´s Life of Brian)

It just means that the chantry followers believe that this thing is Anderaste. It does not mean that they are right, or that this being identifies as Anderaste or has even as much as heard of her. And even if this fade being calls herself Anderaste the story of the chantry is still not undeniable truth since it was founded more than 900 years ago, and the revolt of Anderaste pre-dates that even by 100 years, which is a lot of time and allows for quite some changes to a religion ( in universe examples are the schism of the black chantry or the heresy of Shartan)

So after all the promises that we would not have to side with the church we become known as the Herald of Andraste?  That is rather disappointing.

People CALLING you Herald has nothing to do with siding with the Chantry.

by any chance are you on of those* people? You know, the ones that read the title of the thread and immediately comment. Because if you had looked inside this thread you would've seen some slight sass from Mr.Laidlaw and The confirmation that we don't have to agree with the title, and that maybe we can determine what we get stuck with.
Edit: basically we might be able to change what we are called, and we might not. But we definitely don't have to agree with the title heaped upon us or side with the chantry.

Your called the "Herald of Andraste" not just "Herald." How can you be that if you don't even believe she exists. Or why would you be called that if you believe her religion is a malevolent one?

Just commenting on the game footage I saw. They are really pushing the title in both videos.

I imagine we'll be referred to as The Inquisitor more than anything else anyway.

Other titles will likely be used only when appropriate.

Are you not reading this thread still? Deliberately just so you can post like this? People might call you that because you walked out of the fade, kind if a big deal. You're the only one who can save them in a giant world ending apocalypse!!! That might inspire some religious fervor in their hearts! On too of that maybe you can lie through your goddamned teeth and say the maker/Andraste sent you back/saved you from the giant ass explosion, just to gain support and loyalty from people! There are reasons, try to think instead of (via text) screaming bloody murder immediately.

and if your long term memory is capable of stretching back to pax, you'll remember the PC being called Eminence and Inquisitor instead of "Harold". It's pretty apparent that there are multiple titles, just saying.

I would definitely laugh out loud if my Inquisitor were referred to as "Harold".

I'm legit naming my human noble that, just so if they get called the "herald" it'll sound like his name.

Yeah, I'm still suspecting that the true nature of the Maker, Andraste, the Dalish gods, etc. will remain unclear. It was still ambiguous after all the Gauntlet and healing ashes business.

I'm actually wondering if we need clarity on these. Probably not.

We know the Inquisitor has the ability, for some reason, to close fade rifts when NOBODY else does; how we get that ability is not yet known. The trailer shows us reaching for a feminine light-person's hand.

I'm not saying that was Andraste. But if she's INTERPRETED as Andraste and you're presenting yourself as a savior of Thedas, people might start calling you that. YOU, the Inquisitor, may never claim or even like that title. Doesn't mean that it won't spread.

I think I'll agree to that. Reminds me of how the mystique The Reapers had in Mass Effect was lost when they were given explanations.

I think I prefer the "We don't know and we don't have to" approach.

The Lady of the Skies saved me Andrastre was a heretic, and deserved to be burned. (For instance)  I am a Herald of the True Faith, the Old Gods give you this chance to return to the True Faith (for another instance).  Your Human faith has nothing to do with the True Pantheon, I return for the Dalish, not for you (yet another).

That is what I want to be able to say.  Not that 'I am an atheist lol' but 'I worship another pantheon entirely and they offer you this chance to kneel in repentance, if you call me the Herald of Andrastre again, I will leave you to your fate under the aegis of your false god.'
