A total novice too (to any com/con in general actually), but I've received the advise to bring lots of food and drinks with you and a chair. Also, if you want to really see certain booths, go there first thing in the morning and try to avoid the big blocksbusters after that :)

depends on your preferences i guess...I don't take anything that doesn't fit in my pockets so 'll just take my camera, some cookies ( no chocalate in case it melts lol) and maybe a bottle of water. I see no point in taking a chair or a backpack full of god-knows-what. There are plenty of areas where you can lounge and have a rest, buy a drink or some food so that's what i prefer to do.

If you can't stand heat or huge crowds or for some reason can't walk/stand for a few hours straight, taking a small fold up chair could be useful but it's not something i would do.

And yeah, looking forward to this year's Gamescom too, will be there Thursday.

I try to go as early as possible. Think last time i was there, i was at the venue  standing in line 2 hrs before opening time, but again that's my preference. I like being early, and at least you'll have a few hours where it's a bit less crowded.

Will be there on Thursday aswell. I'm very excited!!!

I was on Gamescom once in 2011 on Saturday and it was REALLY crowded… I hope it's better on Thursday and as far as I know they have limited the tickets since then.

I am actually planning on going to Germany in August and attend the Gamescom for the very first time. Most excited about CD Project and the Witcher but certainly looking forward on seeing some Dragon Age in action.

By the way, how many here have attended in the past and can tell about their experiences to us novices?

This sums it up.

The point is that it will be crowded and hot inside (it may even be hot outside since it is summer).

Bring definitely something to drink. A deodorant isn't such a bad idea either ;). Regarding the food, I think you can buy small snacks there. Something like pretzels but I can't tell for sure. IMO it can't hurt to take some cereal bars or an apple with you (and nothing with chocolate). Whether or not you want to take a backpack with you depends on how much weight you have to carry around. I like backpacks for two reasons: 1. You have your hands free and 2. You can put goody backs inside the backpack.

*is busy taking notes* I was planning to search for a nearby supermarket in order to make myself some sandwiches... anyone got experience with that? Maybe I'll skip the chair than... got a folding chair with strap (so I could hang it on my back), but it is a lot of extra weight and hit-people-all-the-time hazard...

I don't know about that. Never checked. LOL. But the trade fair is just one train stop away from central station. There are some small bakeries and takeaways there. A bit pricey though.

Bring a flask. Just in case the crowd gets stressful lol.

The fact that I'll be there in spite of conditions I hate - hot and packed - says everything. As opposed to last year, I'll expect lots of new info from Bioware. I have tickets for Thursday and Saturday - the latter because all special events are on Saturday, unfortunately, else I would avoid this day like the plague. I hope it won't be as hot as in the previous two years. 37 C at 8 pm in 2012, torture. Good that I live almost around the corner...

Also, tickets for Saturday are sold out. And bringing something to drink is advisable. Food? Who needs food?

I totally hate heat and crowded places too, hence why I've never done anything like this... but this year promised to be too good to just pass, so I'll try :) Too bad that all good things are apparently on Saturday... but already booked my train ticket. I might be able to sneak in quickly, but with the tickets apparently already sold out anyway... na.

You mean like an explosive flask? That would certainly help out with crowd stress.....look I'm not great at social interaction okay?

Shall we first collect the BSN members somewhere before throwing out the flasks? I'd rather not get hit with friendly fire, to be honest... well ok, unless you really want to hit me, than it is not that friendly...

I'm not going, I did think about it, but then I read people talking about people there being rude and pushy abouty, I don't like rude and selfish people...so I changed my mind. If the atmosphere sounded nicer it would be a different story, take pepper spray...

I'll take a steel armor with me... people can be pushy all they want, I won't feel it

Edit: and as far as I understood: the pushy and rude crowd collects mostly around blockbusters as CoD... which I don't care about anyway and thus can skip that part.

When i went 2 years ago I didn't notice any of that kind of behaviour, so either it's not that bad or i  was just too distracted with all the flashy lights ( and booth babes)

I hope we'll get to see something new :) I'm really curious about the role of the advisors, but doubt they'd reveal more of that during a convention. I'll just wait and see... By the way, I assume that Bioware will be at the EA booth, as I could not see a seperate booth in the list?

Yes, they will most likely be at the EA booth, then.
