An alternative is that that one sequence could be a 'story' Varric is telling, similar to the beginning of DA2, which gives default Hawke Marian and Garrett.

I really liked the trailer and the antagonist's voice. ( where's your maker now )

I also love the trailer music!! I hope that is part of the soundtrack!
