So sex is the only means of "displaying affection"? Words aren't enough?

How does it benefit you to deny people's experiences? Do you feel slighted in some way by asexual people participating in romantic relationships? In what way does random people you don't know or care about being wrong (god forbid) about their feelings affect you negatively?

I agree with you, but this will go nowhere. Let's just stay on topic.

It's subjective. Let's stop there before I get attacked by a legion of SJW for something trivial.

It's interesting how this thread basically sums up how insignificant it would feel to play as a Qunari. But, I already pointed that out before.

I guess. But that type of behavior would probably be under scrutiny. If I keep touching/feeling/caressing/groping a girl it kind of sends a clear message. A message that the Tamassrans and Ben-Hassrath wouldn't tolerate unless it was authorized. I suspect the Qunari medicate to keep their population sexually placid. When it comes time to breed they suspend the meds.

Yeah that part of the Qunari life style is no fun.

I think we also need to remember that Qunari are different. They probably don't express love through caresses and "gropes". THey probably are very stoic and distanced even in their expression of affection.

I thought it was the other way around? Or at least they do have sexual relations for the purposes of reproduction, but with a partner chosen by the Qun?

They aren't allowed in the sense that they chose on their own. Sexual reproduction is supervised (not the act itself I hope) and controlled in the Qun.

Getting back to the original post, as I understand it we are at least a second generation Vashoth.   In order words we have never lived under the rule of the Qun.    However, our parents may well have done and escaped from that life for whatever reasons we wish to ascribe to them.    Even if the original ones who left were several generations back, family tradition probably hands down where we came from and why we left.     That leaves a bit of scope since they might well approve of certain aspects of the Qun philosophy but object to others and have rejected it in its entirety.   I guess that bit is going to be up to us.   So you are not being forced to follow Qunari culture but you might still adhere to some aspects of it.   If you are a mage, and your parents/grandparents were mages, then it is pretty obvious why you wouldn't agree with the Qun.

We are genetically a qunari but not culturally a Qunari.   However, the majority of inhabitants of Thedas are not going to know the difference and will respond to your appearance as though you were a member of the Qun.

As for the Qunari attitude to sexual relations.   As with everything else, the Qun decides who you should mate with in order to have children.    They may well discourage sexual intercourse outside of this officially sanctioned union in case it results in offspring, who obviously will not have been planned.    However, I'm assuming that have nothing against displays of affection and forming close bonds with partners of either sex provided it is kept platonic or at the very least you avoid any possibility of having children.    You can read into that what you choose.

Iron Bull is currently acting in a way that is totally contrary to the rules of the Qun.   However, he is meant to be "under cover" as a spy, so originally he probably convinced himself that what he was doing helped to allay suspicion that he was anything other than a Tal-Vashoth mercenary.     Then he found he was being to enjoy his decadent lifestyle and this would appear to be where the conflict has arisen in his loyalties.   So it is possible they will allow you to develop a full romance with him that eventually has him choose between you and the Qun, or it may be that he will never be more than a casual fling.  That also may be entirely up to the Inquisitor and how they conduct the relationship.

i'll break my Xbox in half in a fit of rage if that's the case. What's the ****** point of races??

Besides that it causes subplot variants, some people just like being able to pick a race for cosmetic reasons, for roleplaying reasons. What's the point of being able customize your Keep and your Armor? Some people, myself included, love that ****.

In other words; the Qunari Inquisitor is just an oversized human with horns and pointy ears.

Basically what you turn into in Fable 2, when you go the evil path :P

yep and that makes him so uninteresting I mean why even bother?

He is basically a human at least Elves are Dalish with a lot of backstory and Dwarves also

have their history (I suppose they are surface dwarves but does that mean they never were in Orzammar?)

I really wanted to roll a Qunari but from what I have heard so far he doesn't look interesting at all

Let's not be hasty here.  As much as I hate to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt, I am willing to do so, at the very least, in this small instance.  I am sure they won't gloss over qunari inquisitors like that and will make certain to make playthroughs feel unique for each race.  Surely BioWare wouldn't be that lazy.

A Vashoth is not "basically a human." There are huge differences between the backstory of a human, and a Vashoth. One will face prejudice from humans. The other will not. One is a noble. The other is, well, we know not a noble. Maybe a mercenary. At any rate, they will not be treated the same.

They will probably face prejudice from elves and dwarves too. It's a good thing doesn't take us to Tevinter. They hate the Qunari. I don't think they'd care about the distinction between Vashoth and Qunari, either.

I could see some characters reacting negatively if they know my qunari inquisitor is romancing someone of that character's race. I hope that there is a variety of reactions to being a qunari in general.

To play a tall woman in a series where you can't adjust body height.

Hmmm... I wonder if Iron Bull will try to convert you if you play as a fellow qunari

I get the sense he won't, Bull strikes me as someone who thinks folks should be allowed to believe and act as they choose. Given his apparent current moral dilemma if he thought otherwise he'd be a massive hypocrite. I'm really interested to see where Bioware takes his character.
