When I saw the pictures of the human soldier sporting N7 armor purported to be the hero of the game (and here), I couldn't help but think back to this quote:
"So first, we don't want to make 'Shepard 2', or Mass Effect 4 with like, 'oh there's no more Shepard but you're a soldier in the universe'. So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest"-BioWare Montreal producer Fabrice Condominas (http://www.gamespot....d/1100-6398559/)
I feel that they've completely thrown this out the window.
I read on a blog that it'll be set in Shepard's lifetime (ie, not a sequel or prequel). Can anybody confirm?
It's nothing but a speculation. Person merely got the impression of that, not confirmation.
So they kill off Shepard only to make us play as another human being? Really? Colour me surprised...

another N7 human, at that.
smh, bioware. smh.
I'd rather play as Shepard again than some random N7 dude or woman taking his or her place. This is insulting.
N7 sucks. sick to death of Alliance crap.

What's wrong with being a human being?
I am a human being, I thoroughly enjoy being a human being, and under no circumstance would I want to be anything other than a human being.
Aliens are boooooooring ![]()
I do agree the whole N7 thing has me worried, but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and think it was brought back mostly because it is a popular brand, and it will have little to nothing to do with Shepard or the Alliance.

i'll try to keep an open mind as well, but N7 is a pretty specific designation. moving away from Shepard 2.0 would be easier if they went for a different affiliation (e.g., mercenary). it's just an odd choice given their repeated, emphatic declaration that they are done with Shepard and want to start fresh.
They showed concept art of what *could be* the next game's protagonist. I don't think they actually confirmed that the protagonist will absolutely be an N7 human. Don't assume that the concept art automatically excludes the idea of playable aliens, and don't assume that N7 even means the same thing in this new game's setting. It's possible that in a post-ME3 setting, the N7 designation is something that becomes adopted by all species, meaning it's not necessarily associated with the Human Alliance, or any military organization, for that matter.

I'm not pissed off because of that, I'm pissed off because they want us to get rid of Shepard to move on to another human being instead of allowing us to play as another type of character. It's literately a restart button to the franchise with a new human protagonist. Why can't we be something else instead? A krogan? An asari? A synthetic? Anything? The fact alone you kill off Shepard, an N7 and Spectre just to replace him/her with another N7 Alliance Soldier is really insulting in my opinion.

lol N7 is popular? it's one of the most boring and predictable things in the world. unless people loved being Hackett's lapdog.

Why do you assume another human will just be a carbon copy of Shepard? How does being an alien automatically make the new PC different or interesting? Who do you think is more likely to be Shepard-like: a human colonial prospector, or a turian Spectre with a history in the military? Just to give you an example.
Also, let's not assume N7 means "Alliance soldier" right off the bat. Or that aliens won't be playable, for that matter. There will be enough reason to get pissed off when (if?
) they actually reveal something substantial.
But then I am biased, since I have no interest whatsoever in playing aliens and think it is a terrible idea.

Not in-universe. But in RL it is a cool brand, or so I have been told.

N7 are strictly members of the Alliance, hence human beings unless a miracle happens.

How do you know they won't let us choose a different race? The new Mass Effect is still in the early development stages so who knows what they might add.
Remember when DA:I wasn't going to have playable races? Now it does.
I think it's very early to start getting angry about ME news, in 6 months time it could all be totally different.

lol by nerds. it's so embarrassing. you wouldn't catch me dead sporting N7 gear.
*shrugs* Well after the third game fiasco, the teaser of the fourth game and now this... Well, I have every rights to be skeptical.

We don't know when or where the next game will be set. Stuff is subject to change. That's my point. A thousand years in the future, N7 might be a type of condom.

Perhaps, but it seems like you are looking for things to be disappointed with.

all of my assumptions about N7 are based on current in-game lore: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/N7
why would they completely change the meaning of N7 when they could just create a whole new designation that isn't tainted by 3 games where it means something different? i mean it's possible, obviously (anything is), i just think it's a poor move if you're truly trying to move your players away from the shepard mindset. also, i wouldn't show concept art of the new protagonist in N7 armor if i (a) weren't going to make the protagonist an N7 or (b ) were trying to really instill a no-more-shepard mindset. but, that's all just me.

so in other words they'd be continuing the trend of the really crappy comics where they just retcon everything.......
or.........toothbrush cereal killer, anyone? flowerpot urinals?
