Mass Effect Andromeda - Known Features Thread - Who needs Milky Way anyway? [15/6/2015]

People who still hate me3 after all this time are the people they should least worry about catering to.
True. If you find you still hate Mass Effect, what could BioWare realistically do that would make you happy? Would making you happy require an unlikely or unpopular development path for the next game? If so, it might be time to reassess your feelings. Many of us were disgusted by the way things ended. Some of us chose to work past it, focusing on the positive, in order to still be able to enjoy the series and any future games.
I have my preferred ME3 ending and array of choices, but I rarely talk about it here. I've accepted that I'm only setting myself up for disappointment if I cling to my preferences like some "one true way". I like ME enough to give it another go, even if they don't "respect" any of my choices. This next game is the perfect time for a much needed clean slate. It's time to let the old complaints go, if you really hope to enjoy future ME games.

Except that lot's of people who despise ME3, still adore ME2 and what universe ME1 had introduced.
Those people still want to play more ME games, but demand from Bioware to not repeat same mistakes from ME3 and to change plot things from ME3 to next ME game for the better.

Most things written on these boards when Me3 was released was not about "criticism" but about people going batsh*t insane to the point of no return.
Riiiight.

People on these boards despised Mass Effect 2 and everything it stood for, before ME3 was the next big cool thing to hate. It's pretty telling that both ME3 and ME2 consistently score better in polls than ME, though, even on BSN.
Hatred is an emotion, criticism is not, and emotions do change over time, regardless of whether the criticisms are valid. I think criticism itself can change as time passes too, if you involve yourself in any creative process. You can see flaws a bit more easily, but probably develop a little bit of empathy for the challenges the artists faced as well.

That said, the general public should be made aware that CroGamer002 is a terrible monster who hates the Lion King. Yes, he went there.

True words.
I'd like to add that the BSN community obviously doesn't speak with one voice.
Also, noone hates everything about any of the three parts of the first trilogy. Just as much as noone loves everything about them either. It's all very complex and difficult to measure.

Yes, absolutely.
People are complex creatures and their views are diverse and multi-dimensional, they are not cardboard cutouts. That said, I don't think that that translates very well on the internet. People tend to bandwagon on both things they love and hate, and that just leads to further entrenchment of their views. I think it's something pretty much everyone has experienced to some extent.

Can I just say a big Thank You for creating this thread. I've been off the ME forums since a little after the release of the Citadel DLC for ME3. I knew/know it will take time for the next ME game and wanted to wait until there was something to check out. Thanks to OP, I can now see what has transpired since I last came here.
A few things, but they're big. New Director since Hudson left, Mac in charge of Creative Director position (hmmm
, not sure 'bout that), new lead writer (not sure 'bout him either...), glad to have a human protag, Salarian design improvements (
, well, I hope they don't change them too much as I loved their look), story idea sounds intriguing. character aesthetics sound good, Elias as a voice actor (possibly male protag) sounds pretty cool. I just got through playing DE:Human Rev. over the holidays and enjoyed it immensely. He'd be good, I think ![]()

Personally felt ME2 was the best by far.
Most of the side-quests were great, unlike in ME3 where you land into a multiplayer arena and run around killing waves of enemies or in ME1 where you drive around a barren planet. They had a great balance of dialogue and combat in ME2.
The companions were also great in ME2, with a whopping 11 squad members. They're all insanely diverse, and each have their own recruitment quests and loyalty quests, giving the player tons of time to bond with them and actually care about their struggles. In ME3, you only have 6, with none having the same level of involvement ME2 squad members got. This ultimately resulted in me not caring about any of the new squad members (namely Vega), and only caring about the old squad members because of their character development in ME2.

I hope they leave the old characters out, completely.
Just thinking about ME3 still leaves me with a bitter taste.
DA:I For me has redeemed Bioware some what over all but not my feelings on ME3. If they want to move this one forward they need to forget the original trilogy ever happened.

It goes without saying that all three games had their respective pros and cons regarding specific areas; everything from narrative to gameplay. It remains to be seen what BW will incorporate into ME4 from past games; be it either removing, improving or simply adding completely new elements to it.

I don't know if you guys want to add this to the features/rumors section or not, but according to a scan from the next issue of the Official Xbox Magazine you guys can see on the twitter thread, there are a few pages dedicated to the next Mass Effect.
Basically a rehash of what we already know, but there was an interesting part about running out of oxygen if you stayed outside of the mako for too long while exploring.

Yep. Personally I would say ME1 was the best in terms of exploration, ME2 had the best squadmates, hubs, and sidequests and ME3 had the best gameplay, best interaction with and between the squadmates, best DLC, and the best, most intense and emotional main quests.
Now, if only ME1 didn't have such a bland cast, ME2 wasn't such a filler story that actually let you have more than two conversations with each squadmate and ME3's ending didn't suck so royally... Well, one can dream ![]()

Thanks, we'll have to discuss what to add and whether we should use the scans directly as a source tomorrow, though. Everyone's sleeping right now.
So what's with the so-called rumor mentioned in the title? I didn't see a link in the OP.

Alright, thanks. For a second there I thought that was a North American date and I got a little excited.
Edit: though I wonder if that rumor is simply "he's following ME people so he might be in the game."

It really is just that, with special focus on him following the voice director if I am not mistaken.
"Rumors" make up for the lowest tier of information, which we like to maintain just in case. The next tier is "Dev Promises" which is mostly about vague descriptions of features, some of which may be upgraded later to "Known Features", if we have enough definitive sources to do so.

CroGamer and I took the liberty to update the page with new info taken from the recent Official Xbox Magazine. No links to scans unfortunately, since there is a certain policy here in the forums regarding that, so you'll just have to take our word for it in the document. ![]()
PS. If you are curious on the scans, I am certain you can find them on the internet somewhere if you look.
EDIT: Also, approve of the thread title, Cro!
