CroGamer and I took the liberty to update the page with new info taken from the recent Official Xbox Magazine. No links to scans unfortunately, since there is a certain policy here in the forums regarding that, so you'll just have to take our word for it in the document. :)

PS. If you are curious on the scans, I am certain you can find them on the internet somewhere if you look.

EDIT: Also, approve of the thread title, Cro!

What's this about?

Any new info, or just creepy topic name change?

I don't seem to be able to find anything groundbreaking and new about ME4 on the net...

The Official Xbox Magazine had mostly a rundown over what was revealed in the Twitter panel last year. Some additional info was brought up in the article (like that there will be at least two new races). Nothing major, but take a look in the document for additional info that we added. You can find them under Dev Promises, Story and Exploration.

This new intel's got me pretty worried... specifically the lines:

  • There will be hundreds of hours of content. [Official Xbox Magazine January 2015]

(What sort of content...?)

  • Wants to bridge narrative and open-world exploration into the game (similar to what Dragon Age: Inquisition did). [Official Xbox Magazine January 2015]

(uhhhhmmmm..................)

  • Planets will encompass number of cities a piece. [Xbox Magazine January 2015]

(And these cities...what scale are we talking about? How dense are they (NPCs, quests etc))

Hold on is this actually new info or the Xbox magazine's interpretation of old statements?

It is XBOX magazine, so they wouldn't make up fake information as it would hurt Bioware with raising false expectations.

BW didn't go into any specifics, since it was mostly about aspects taken up in the twitter panel held last year. What matter of contents and what the planets will have in terms of exploration wasn't brought up.

It is XBOX magazine, so they wouldn't make up fake information as it would hurt Bioware with raising false expectations.

Well there is the fact that Xbox magazine did state that DAI would encompass several explorable nations in the game (e.g. Nevarra and Free Marches) and was later corrected by BW that Inquisition would only have Orlais and Ferelden in the game.

Magazines make mistakes from time to time, so not everything should be viewed with a 100% accuracy, though neither should one be overly paranoid over what gets stated.

Do we even still have the right to hope for 2015/early 2016 release?

The tumblr says: "the new game’s planetary maps will be large enough to encompass a number of cities a piece, and "hundreds of hours" of roaming."

Since most planets probably won't have much vegetation, creating gigantic maps should be rather easy. They could even use procedural generation to create an infinite amount of planets, like in Elite: Dangerous.

This article is pure speculation and contains no new information.

Well, known Bioware-Superfan Shinobi602, who clearly knows someone inside Bioware and gets frequently retweeted by Aaryn Flynn, wrote on NeoGAF that it's definitely coming out next year.

Except it does--two new races will be in the game. All we knew before was that there would be new races. Also it is not speculations when it is a direct quote from BW.

NeoGAF is not a credible source to add, even on rumor section.

There is no direct quote the article. The information about the two new alien species is from the leaked 2013(?) PAX-survey.

I know, but Shinobi usually is. He and EatChildren know people associated with Bioware and/or EA. Both of them have accounts here too.

Fair enough, but I'd still stay away from citing NeoGaf as source.

It's good enough to warrant a discussion, especially since that is a very realistic game release date.

It was said in the N7 day stream that there would be 2 new species.

Maybe, but the description of the aliens is from the leak.

Maybe we should add a note on the OP to let people know what the Captain's Log is about.

Insolence! Blasphemy! Hubris! This is more than a coup d'etat! :P

Holy optimism, Batman!

Looks like standard Hero's Journey stuff to me.

Ι'm for this. I wouldn't use NeoGAF as a source, but Shinobi is Shinobi, we could do with having it as a rumor independently anyway. Heck, a 2016 release date rumor is something that the community frequently talks about. Looks like standard Rumor material for me.

---

The two alien races info is not a reveal, they just add a few more info on their enivornment. I think we should integrate the new source into the older feature concerning the alien races, rather than make a new one up.

Uh, why are you guys treating the random information and rumours in that Xbox magazine as an official source?

That entire article is just reporting what was said on N7 Day - it mentions no new interviews with Bioware people, no internal sources, etc. They don't know any more than we do.

Nobody, anywhere, has talked about running out of oxygen outside the Mako or "hundreds of hours" or "many cities per planet". The alien races speculation comes from a fan panel at PAX 2013 that's a year and a half old, and we don't even know if the original source was accurate. OXM is not a legitimate source if the source they're using is wrong, or if they're just adding in random rumours among some genuine stuff from N7 Day. This is exactly how bad information spreads around.

I don't mean to sound passive aggressive, but people who come to find new information are going to read your stuff, and read sourced information from OXM that could be entirely wrong. Given the problems this series has had with developers promising things that weren't in the final game, I hardly think it helps to add to that by including rumours in a list like this. Especially when you're putting it under "Dev Promises" and treating the list like it's verified information. Most games media websites are becoming ridiculously bad at reporting accurate information, so I'd be extremely skeptical about including anything that's not released by Bioware itself.

(OXM had an interview with Bioware before DAI's release and still managed to get half the details wrong, which led to fans getting excited about locations and features that weren't in the game, which led to a whole bunch of unhappy people when someone from the dev team had to clear up the situation.)

*If* OXM had gone to Bioware to do an interview and this was an article about it, then I'd have absolutely no issues with putting anything they reported into a list of known features, but that report is just summarising another video, and a lot of it sounds blatantly incorrect. At best, the stuff that didn't come from N7 Day deserves to be moved to rumours, but I suspect none of it is accurate anyway.

I do not trust this running out of oxygen shep never had this problem. It sounds annoying forceing you back to the mako for air all the time it will get boring quick.

(to Commander-Shepard) In ME1, there were some planets where you were given a timer on how long you could be outside a building or a vehicle because of the enviroment. Had something to do with external pressure, I believe, on one planet but don't quote me on it.

It never bothered me much because of how it was implemented. It should be mentioned, however, that these planets were optional from what I can remember so I really, really hope they consider how they implement it in ME:N if they plan on making it work in non-optional missions.

I liked how ME1 had those hazardous environments, but if in the next Mass Effect the environment/world/etc only lacks Oxygen and has no hazardous elements? I'd expect to be able to roam about for a good 15-20mins before even having to worry about getting back to the Mako.

I do not remember that but if it was i just hope there are not many planets with this time limit with air unless the time limit is long like 20-30 mins.

(to AnaTheTurian) especially because I'm assuming we thought to bring oxygen tanks with us. Either that or we had to choose between oxygens tank and spare tires for the Mako.

Personally, I'm in favor of leaving a companion behind for the extra supply room. Combat? I have a Mako. I ran over geth armatures and battled threshers maws with that thing. I only got out of the car to give them a fair chance.

In regard to the "multiple cities" bit, I didn't read that as a statement that these areas would have such. I read it as a way of illustrating how big these areas are. They could contain several cities, not they will contain cities.

Maybe, but nobody actually said that. Bioware have given zero indication of how big the areas will be, except some vague thing about people driving the Mako around for half an hour or something. If they'd used that statement themselves as a way of indicating the size of the environments, that would be a different matter.

This thread's list of "known features" has the line: "Planets will encompass number of cities a piece", which is potentially really misleading.

(And if the game comes out without having any cities on planets at all, will people who read it get annoyed?)
