I say Holiday 2016 as our best case scenario and March 2017 as our worse case scenario for the release.
E3 2015 will focus on the barebones introduction to ME4 with some follow up work at PAX Prime and Gamescom. The barebones introductions would be regarding the mako/exploration, VERY basic idea of where the story is heading and some new features.
E3 2016 will role out the major marketing push for the release with a more indepth trailer and many gameplay videos as well as more information about the plot, characters, and locations. Perhaps this is when the multiplayer component will be revealed and talked about. If delayed to Spring 2017, then perhaps GamesCom or even PAX Prime could have some meaty ME4 showings.
Either way, ME4 WILL NOT release this year nor will it release before fall 2016.
I disagree, holiday 2016 is way too far. And if the game is still in development by 2017 then its dead. Also I think they are going to keep as many details secret for as long as they can get away with it before the release to the reviewers.
I remember a few years ago when DAI was still in dev and there weren't even a video out about it that I said that its going to come out in holiday 2014 because it was the perfect time to release it both on the new consoles and pc and the old ones. Of course I have absolutely no proof of that and for all you know I am just lying to prove my point.
Doesn't matter. ME4 was handed over to a new team, the game development started quite probably a few months at most after ME3 release. Lets say it was middle of 2012. That gives us 3 years so far. DA2 was released in March 2011 and DAI was released in November 2014. That is roughly 3.5 years. Considering they had to learn how to work with the new engine.
Now they have that experience, and while the new team still needs time to learn and get into the "groove" getting the game done in 3.5 years would be plenty of time. Or if more than that its still going to be released before summer 2016. It makes too much sense for them to do that. More than 4 years and people start to forget about the game, not us, people who post on these forums and debate issues and get into arguments over what is basically just fiction but the people who played the game once and were done with it. Because no matter how much we think we are important to the game devs their marketing department always says to them that they have to make a game that has the "wow" factor to get those people to buy it. People who enjoy the game but do not get even a quarter as invested in it as we do.
Games like Elder Scrolls and GTA can afford to have long development cycles because they are massively popular but Mass Effect while is quite loved is not one of those games. ME3 sold around 1.2 million copies in the release month compared to 6 million copies of GTA4 and 11 million of GTA5 in their first week.
Games like that cannot afford to coast on the sidelines for that long.
