Zack Snyder is an underwhelming choice to helm the DC movie universe and the Justice League movie.  He does not have a good track record, both critically and commercially.  He is a visual artist, but he has proven that he does NOT know how to tell a character story: he does not how to build characters, he does not know how to build character arcs, he does not know how to give depth to characters.  I do not understand why Warner Bros handed the DC movie universe to him.  Which is why I think the DC movie franchises are heading into a disaster.

That's why they brought in Ben Affleck (as a director) and Chris Terrio. These guys have been Oscar poaching for WB for almost 5 years now.

Ben as Bruce/Batman, lol. What a joke.

Uh, I didn't hear anything about Ben Affleck directing alongside Zack Snyder...

I know. He's going to do everything Synder says without questioning him even if he disagrees even though he's more experienced and is coming off several Oscar nominations and one win...

Wait?

Not really. It's a collaborative effort.

Have you worked on a film set before?

The directors and producers are usually not the people to second guess.

Granted it was an independent production but I assumed it'd be worse on a legit Hollywood Production.

Now I'd rather get back to the film and discuss how laughable that teaser was.

Godzilla had a better one 2 years ago, and that movie was still in Pre-Pro.

Let's review Zack Snyder's track records:

None of his movies has ever managed at least 80% at Rotten Tomatoes.

None of his movies has ever scored at least 60 (out of 100) at Metacritics.

His highest rated movie is his first movie, Dawn of the Dead, which scored 75% at Rotten Tomatoes.  None of his other movies has been able to score even 70%.

None of his movies has ever managed to earn $1 billion at the box office.  His best performance is $668 million with Man of Steel, which is generally considered as a disappointment for a movie that costs $225 to make (and another $200+ million to market.)

The only movie that he wrote (and produced/directed) is Sucker Punch.  It score 23% at Rotten Tomatoes and 33 at Metacritics, proofs that he cannot write.  (It's kinda like how Mass Effect 3 ending shows that Casey Hudson should stick to producing/directing and stay away from writing for goodness sake.)

Sucker Punch also revealed Zack Snyder is a chauvinistic pig.  And Warner Bros let him in charge of Wonder Woman.

Why did Warner Bros hand the entire DC movie universe to him again?  Zack Snyder is the luckiest director in Hollywood.

Yeah but it's also part of the director's and producer's job to look for feedback. Also why else would WB court Affleck for the Batman gig? It wasn't for his current popularity. His acclaim however...

RT is an aggregate. 40 people say a movie sucked, 40 others say it's Citzen Kane it's going to get a 50% rating. It's not the end all be all of movie reviews.

Jensen Ackles was a better choice. If only he wasn't still doing Supernatural...

*Vertigo

Citizen Kane lost out to Alfred Hitchcocks Vertigo a few years ago as the best film ever made*

*According to scholarly consensus lag time.

Personally, I think DC really dropped the ball on this one.

Granted, I thought the Batman trilogy was amazing (if very different from the comic), but they really didn't plan for the long haul here. For one, Nolan isn't the type of director to simply churn out movies ad infinitum. Marvel hinted since Iron Man 1 what they were planning, so it's not like this was all some big surprise to them.

But Marvel is in the midst of their master plan, while DC is struggling just to get Justice League off the ground. They need to get their stuff together quick.

Looking forward to this. I've enjoyed most of Zack Snyder's movies: 300, Watchmen, and Man of Steel (really enjoyed the reboot). Hope the BvS movie is as good.

In all honesty this movie's about as much on my radar as Star Wars 7.

I just don't really care if it succeeds or not, and I'm not entirely sure why.

Zack Snyder could be excused if he has made only one or two movies, and the aggregate reviews were horrible.  He already has an establish track records, and different aggregate review websites consistently give low scores to his movies.  Not just one websites but multiple websites.  That's is not a once or twice hiccup.  That's not a bias.  That's an establish track record.  Zack Snyder consistently delivers low-rated movies.  That's the consistency.

And, most importantly, his box office records are not so hot either.

Warner Brothers actually wanted Christopher Nolan to helm the DC movie universe, but Nolan was done with comic books movies.  Nolan picked up Snyder for the Superman reboot.  That turned out to be Snyder's biggest break ever.

The only reason why Warner Bros have no choice but to keep Zack Snyder is because Warner Bros are in a panic mode.   Typically, a franchise movie like Man of Steel, which performed below expectations at the box office, would have been abandoned and gotten another reboot.  However, Warner Bros are stuck in a catch-22 situation: DC is already way behind Marvel in the movie game, and Warner Bros are in a hurry to build a unified DC movie universe.  Warner Bros just do not have the time to restart from scratch.  That's why Zack Snyder is so lucky.  It's the circumstances that favor him.

Honestly wanted MoS 2 or Man of Tomorrow/Last Son of Krypton first. But the prequel to the Justice League is the card we were dealt so I'm rolling with it.

Edit: I won't be talking about Marvel Studios anymore. I think they suck (with a couple exceptions). No one's changing my mind. I know comparisons are inevitable, but I don't want to sound like a broken record. So yeah. Keep thinking they're God's gift to the film industry.

Some people might disagree.

That's your opinion.  The review scores at Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, as well as the box office records, disagree with you.  You can talk about opinions being subjective all you want.  On an numerical basis, especially based on box office records, you are wrong.  Marvel beats DC, critically and commercially; not just in one area but in both.

Personally, I like Nolan's Dark Knight movies better than Marvel movies.  However, Nolan's Dark Knight is NOT part of the current DC movie universe.

And to their credit, Marvel has never attempted anything quite on this scale before. No one has, to my knowledge, done anything quite like the cinematic universe. It makes it more easy to forgive when they make a lackluster movie (of which there are a few), just considering how they've put together this entire concept.

We can settle it like this.

DC Animated Movies>Marvel Animated Movies

Marvel Live Action Movies>DC Live Action Movies.

Done! That's fair I think.

In another news... Young Justice was rumored to be getting a Season 3.  Yet there was no announcement at the Comic-Con.

WB could have gone digital with Young Justice like what the Legend of Korra did, instead of just cancelling the show.
