Japanese Spider-Man was dark and child friendly.

And that's what makes it better than all of this crap.

So it is made for really dark children? Kind of evil kids? Like Daimen?

Japan just has a different social convetion re: what's appropriate for kids. And it went crazy dark and got canned.

The main character, Keisuke Uwasaki (岩崎 圭介 Uwasaki Keisuke), is a handsome and very muscular high school teacher by day and dispenses a surreal brand of "justice" at night as the Rapeman under the business "Rapeman Services", which is co-run with his uncle, a former surgeon. The business' motto is: "Righting wrongs through penetration."

Well that was amusing.

They both can be that way, but neither have necessarily been childish for years. It's just the Comics Code era that ruined things for awhile. It's the same reason movies and television were kind of dorky back in the 50s too. Compare a movie from the 30s and 40s (lots of gangster flicks, noir, horror, and femme fatales and murder conspiracies) to the ones in 50s.

Ah, actual censorship caused by the government...

Really? Apart from the gothic Batman, I always felt like DC's heroes main heroes tended to be moral paragons in a way Marvel's were not (back when they were headlined by the X-Men and Spiderman, versus the MCU properties today).

DC actually went really dark as a whole since mid-aughts and Identity Crisis, with most of the crossovers going pretty bleak. Some of it worked for me, some, like Cry for Justice, came across more as hilarious to me. It also made it amusing since the actual editorial is/was being run be people who seem to think that the Silver Age was the bestest ever, sorry about the slight dig, causing a really stark contrast in tone. They're new books, at least based on what they have been promoting, though, seem to be going for more varied tones with hopefully better success.

To touch on a larger issue here, though, is that I always kind of hate the discussion on the light and dark, as it really strips down the elements contributing to them. For example, I didn't feel MoS was dark, it aimed to be more of grey and grounded in real world with superpowers. Yet all those elements were suddenly decided to be dark and grim, even when they weren't, they just weren't bright as comics as that wasn't the tone Snyder going for. For example the damn color scheme I keep reading complaints about, there are a lot of colors there, they just don't shoot it as bright as Marvel does because those two companies are literally going for different storytelling tones aside from light and dark.

This isn't to say that people should like the end result, but rather that I find it always really frustrating when how apparently there can be only two things and dark became a slam, forcing people disagreeing to both argue why dark isn't automatically bad and how MoS wasn't dark.

Remember that awful video that 'corrected' the colours? Which was totally deceiving as it desaturated the movie's actual colours to make its 'improvements' look better - which was up for debate anyway.

Don't know if this was mentioned, but anyone caught the Red Son Batman in the Trailer? I noticed the first time, but decided to post here now..

Also, "The Red Capes are coming"

Edna Moore didn't approve of this.

Agreed, especially since it missing both the hat. Although at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if it was partially referenced here as Batman does technically beat Superman in Red Son. Actually, he is the only person in that story who does so.

I still have to read Red Son. It's fascinated me for quite some time now, but I never managed to pick it up. I wonder if there's more hints of that in this universe? As someone who hasn't read it - would the rocket be a reference perhaps?

Theere it is, thank you :D

But I now realized we were talking about the costume, not his apparition (See, as for why a Red Son Batman being in Gotham is strange while on the Desert is not  ;)  )

So apologies for the confusion.

ahh, I see - it's no matter ^.^

The desert-part of the movie is something I am very interested in - as it is one of the few things in the new trailer that I can't figure out all that much

What i can't figure out is Lex Luthor. Zack Snyder gets a lot criticisms about his directing ability but the man knows how to make characters look epic. The trinity gets the full treatment and then we get this....

Has to be a red herring right?

Superman hasn't caused him to lose his hair yet.
