He loses his hair due to the kryptonite. That much is obvious to me. Notice how he seems to have a bandage around his hand when Superman is kneeling in front of him.

It's a very different take on Lex Luthor for sure, this Jesse Esienberg one. But extremely interesting, and a great breath of fresh air after the real-estate-Lex we've been seeing for years now. Some elements definitely remain though: philanthropy, for instance, and a seeming interest in politics - as becomes apparent by his little scene in the trailer with Holly Hunter's character, who's a senator. Coupled with that is the inevitable obsession with Superman and his homeworld of Krypton; he clearly does something with Zod's body in the movie. Which I have my theories on but I won't go into that atm.

I'm willing to really give this the benefit of the doubt. And from what we've seen in the trailer, I quite liked Eisenberg's portrayal.

What i can't figure out is Lex Luthor. Zack Snyder gets a lot criticisms about his directing ability but the man knows how to make characters look epic. The trinity gets the full treatment and then we get this....

I mean, Lex getting Kryptonite Cancer would be pretty cool. Since that's never been addressed in the other Superman movies.

Man of Steel has a **** load of problems. But at least Zod didn't try to make a Kryptonite Continent.

I really don't like Superman Returns btw.

-Movie opens with Lex Luthor swindling old ladies out of their money.

-Great flashback scene.

-Cute scene where Clark comes back to the Daily Planet.

-Cannibal Dogs. Seriously. WHAT THE ****** ****!?

-Giant train model set. Why?

-The Model figurines scream. Nuff said.

-Plane scene is exciting, well-paced, but it’s one of the films scarce action scenes.

-Lex Luthor and his goons have a lot of surprisingly great, funny scenes.

-Brandon Routh is an admittedly great Clark Kent but doesn’t really get to shine as Superman.

-Superman spies on Lois like a full-grade creeper.

-The shot of Superman in space is a great shot. Wonderful musical accompaniment.

-Minigun scene is also pretty cool. With a pretty funny little resolution.

-Lex distracts Superman. With a broken speeding car. There a billion things that would distract him better.

-Movie doesn’t know what time period it’s supposed to be in.

-Lois has the brains of a hamster.

-Kevin Spacey is an awesome Lex Luthor. Too bad his plan is stupid.

-Lois marries a guy who is pretty much the same type of guy Superman is. So much for moving on hamster brain.

-Kryptonite continent. Who comes up with this stuff?

-Lex Luthors plan is stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

-A ****** Fax machine is a main plot point. In a movie from 2006.

-Films soundtrack is unmemorable, outside of the re-use of John Williams’ music.

-Supermans kid storyline is stupid and I hate it.

-Jimmy Olsen is great. Has a lot of funny moments. Just good casting.

-The films last real action scene isn’t all that engaging, due to the films honestly rather boring pacing up to this point, and a lack of any real likeable characters in the peril.

-Superman gets his ass kicked. BY KUMAR!

-He lifts the continent of Kryptonite. If he had spent a couple minutes inside the sun, I might actually believe that’s possible.

-Superman watches little kids while they sleep.

-Personally. I find this movie too boring and muddled with uninteresting characters and ideas to find enjoyable, and I hope I never have to watch it again.

I'm guessing they've gone for a Mark Zuckerberg hip executive instead of a Donald Trump suit executive. Not sure which is more scary tbh.

I haven't read that one yet. I tend to take a break from comics when an crossover event happens and I pick up randomly afterword.

If it doesn't happen I'll watch Batman Forever and Batman & Robin consecutively in one day. Followed by Superman Returns. Followed by Green Lantern. 
 

 

Funnily, that's almost how Gene Hackman behaves in the first movie. The criminal mastermind with all the original ideas.

That movie was on TV a few days ago, and if you watch it without the context of its time period then there's quite some bad stuff in it. Don't get me wrong though: I love the movie.

Ah, Hackman thinks Lex Luthor was his role? He merely adopted the character.



Michael Rosenbaum's acting career was born into the role, molded by it. He didn't start acting other roles until he was already a man, by then he was type cast!

EDIT: In case anyone couldn't tell, this is a parody of Bane's "you think the darkness is your ally" line from The Dark Knight Rises.

I've watched very little of Smallville, but from what I've seen Rosenbaum's Lex was one of the better ones. Though to me he'll always be Wally West aka the Flash from the animated Justice League show.

Agreed - one of the best Justice League episodes. And really goes to show how much destructive power The Flash could unleash if he really tried.

Flash was so awesome on JL/JLU! He usually seemed like just the "funny guy" on the team, but there were many moments when you could see how powerful he really was. And just how great a person.
