Your character  - who walks alive out of the fade, actually died but got possessed by some sort of fade creature.
YOU are what caused (or maintains) the fade rift, the rift is using you as an anchor into Thedas.
What if you growing in power - is whats further opens the rift?
Anyone remember Revan from KOTOR? What if the fade creature inside you merged with you but both lost all memory.

What if the one possessing you is a greater pride demon - and is actually the last boss.
This would open up for some great good vs bad ending. Embrace the demon and rule Thedas from the black citadel. Or exorcize the demon and defeat it to save the world.

I like the idea of causing or maintaining the fade rift by acting as an anchor to it and the only ways to close it are dying or stepping through. I also like the idea of the player character having died in the fade blast and being resurrected, but I don't want it to have been demons, I want it to be something more complicated, like maybe dying near the Urn of Sacred Ashes or being brought back by the Maker or the big bad in an attempt to prove some sort of point.

I am interested in what other theories you have.

You know,even if this doesn't turn out to be true,it's a brilliant theory.
It would create many strong Roleplaying moments.
As long as the pc's death isn't mandatory and there's a way out ofcourse.
Personally,I wouldn't mind it much,but a great number of players would be displeased(to put it lightly)with that sort of ending.

I like your idea it`s not Ridiculous . The end battle could be self sacrifice ( you are so bonded you both have to die ) or fighting yourself ( the demon one on one ) and forcing it back to the fade so it can be the villain in the next game .

I don't like it. Revan's story was great once but a story like that shouldn't be repeated.

There are also multiple rifts. The inquisitor has been clearly closing rifts in the videos we have seen. If the rifts would actually increase or increase by closing them why would the inquisition even want you if you are seemingly making everything worse with your gift?

And what lost memory? The inquisitor only doesn't seem to know why he/she survived instead of having lost all memories of who he/she is.

Im glad some of you like the theory but I understand why some of you dont. Especially your point dutch_gamer.

I have been right before though. I cant find the thread atm (Been looking awhile now, not sure how to search in your own started threads). But I predicted under ME2 that in ME3 EDI would get her own body (like legion) and become a romance for joker or shepard. At that point I got pretty much laughed at. Im not sure if Bioware stole this idea from me or if I was able to guess it right. So I have been right before, and that thread was not a lucky hit - I did not post many theories only the few I thought likely.
