You said it yourself. They would be going so far in to the future that the ending chosen would become irrelevant.

How's that a bigger copout than a spinoff? The spinoff doesn't deal with the ending either.

It doesn't deal with anything. It has nothing to do with the old trilogy, your choices or your companions.

At least with a sequel you can see the consequences of the Reaper War. The galaxy being more trustful of humans and krogan while being iffy about the Asari and their refusal to share Prothean technology.

If playing a N7 human is so boring why are you even following Mass Effect? Because that's what Mass Effect is a game about playing as a N7 human.

LOL!

Really hope it's not true. Like others have said, Shepard is off fighting the biggest threat in the galaxy, so pretty much nothing that the new character could do would be able to top that. Unless they create an even bigger threat (lol) and that would sort of make the Reapers and everything Shep did irrelevant. I just really don't have an interest in returning to the ME universe before or during the timeline of the Trilogy because we all know how that ends. I don't care about the "it's the journey not the destination!" ****, because in this case, the destination is a brick wall, and them not having the balls do to anything after the ME3 endings would prove that.

I really just want them to move forward in a dignified way, without being cheap, like making it in an alternate universe or whatever. The Trilogy is done, let's move on. Set the game a shitload of years after and canonize the Destroy ending if you have to since that would be the easiest one to work with. Make the Reapers and Shepard a simple codex entry, just part of the distant history and that's that.

Because it would be Hawke all over again. The Warden is off saving the whole world while Hawke is fighting a bunch of mages.

Replace Warden with Shepard and Hawke with N7 Bob.

You can make good stories that have (personal) impact without resorting to saving the world - a cliched trope anyway.

It doesn't matter. All that matters is BW getting their money; which they will, because everyone here will buy and enjoy it. Just saying

I'm assuming that it doesn't deal with the endings because the endings have yet to occur. This is very different from setting a game in the future and deliberately ignoring the player's choice of ending.

But of course, this is all empty speculation about a game that, at this rate, won't be released for at least another two years.

Sure you can. But not while a character you played as before is saving the world.

That's just lame. You won't shake the feeling that no matter what you do, the ending is already known and your character is just a little bug compared to the one that is saving the world.

Sure you can. Have a little imagination! Forget ME3, this new game probably has little to do with the main plot of the first trilogy. It doesn't matter what Shepard is or isn't doing. It's its own thing!

Anyway, it's not even confirmed when it's taking place. That article might be wrong for all we know.

Let's see what notable events Shepard's Life time covers.

LT. Commander was born on April 11 2154 and his final adventure as shown occurred in 2186.

Notable events that occurred (aside from the Reaper Invasion)
2157 First Contact War

2164 Ivor Johansburg assassinates the Volus Ambassador jeopardizing Humanity's bid for an embassy in the Citadel

2165 Humanity continues to expand founding more colonies and creating trade Alliances with Council races.
Terrorist steal Antimatter from the SSV (Cerberus)

2170 Mindoir is attacked by Batarian Slavers

2179 Cerberus assassinates Pope Clement XVI on Earth via rosary beads coated with toxic substances; his death is attributed to age and heart failure. His successor, Pope Leo XIV, espouses beliefs more in-line with Cerberus' ideals.

2175 Cerberus covertly contacts Michael Moser Lang, a political dissident on Earth, and provides him with funding to purchase weapons. Cerberus continues to monitor him after contact ends. One year later, Lang assassinates United North American States president Enrique Aguilar and Chinese People's Federation premier Ying Xiong. The resulting political shuffle benefits Cerberus' shell companies and plans for the Systems Alliance Parliament.

2176 Skyllian Blitz, Anhur Rebellions

2178 Alliance launches an attack on Torfan in retaliation for the Skyllian Blitz, wiping out the Criminal Bases there. Alliance forces also launch "Theshaca Raids" which results in serious blow to Terminus system pirates.

The timeline isn't confirmed yet.

I also read that is could take place in "a whole new galaxy" whatever that means. Maybe it's some kind of remake, though I doubt it.

All this information now floating around contrdicts each other.

The most important tweet was that the new game will take place during Shepard lifetime, so from 2154-2186... yeah very informative.

As if we didn't new that, lol.

My guess is also that it will be between ME 1 and 2 because we will eventually meet squad members of Shepard.

I'm curious how they will tell us that our choices and actions matter in the new game compared to the reaper war.

And then why the hell our squad mates never said any word (in ME3) on an other very capable N7 marine they met....

all pointless since we already know how every single one of them turned out. plus you're dead wrong about Cerberus. they started up 6 months before the events of ME1.

We know for a fact that some relays have been ignored.

From the wiki

After the Rachni Wars, space faring species won't open a primary relay without knowing where it links to, in case they run into another powerful and hostile species like the rachni. This caused a rift when the turians found human pioneers, ignorant of this Citadel Council prohibition, trying to open any mass relay they could find while exploring the relay network, eventually leading to the First Contact War. Many mass relays are currently dormant for unknown reasons, though they can be easily reactivated.

So we 'potentially' have vast swaths of this Galaxy that are totally unexplored....if you can't see the possibilities of that then i don't know what else to say.

all pointless since we already know how every single one of them turned out.

People knew how the movies like 'The 10 Commandments', 'Lincoln', 'Zulu', and many more were going to end and yet they were still regarded as excellent films.

plus you're dead wrong about Cerberus.

.....look at the wiki...

As Cerberus grew, it had an indelible effect on the course of human development through acts of sabotage, assassination, media manipulation, and espionage. Cerberus became known to the public after a failed attempt to steal antimatter from the cruiser SSV Geneva in 2165. The sole surviving member of the operation named his sponsor "Cerberus", and the publicity from the incident spurred an increase in recruitment. In 2170, Cerberus engineered the Eldfell-Ashland Energy accident over Yandoa, exposing the colonists to dust-form element zero, and two other similar accidents over the preceding four months in two other colonies. The following year, Pope Clement XVI is assassinated via rosary beads coated with toxic materials in order to be replaced by Leo XIV, who has eschatological beliefs in with Cerberus's goal of militarizing humanity. Claude Menneau, a candidate for the leadership of the pro-human Terra Firma party, was also assassinated in 2173 at the order of the Illusive Man to allow Charles Saracino to gain the position. Cerberus was additionally responsible for funding Michael Moser Lang, who would go on to gun down United North American States president Enrique Aguilar and Chinese People's Federation premier Ying Xiong in 2176, and sabotaging the starship MSV Anixara in 2182, resulting in the death of Turian Hierachy war hawk Raherix Ursivus.

It's still a poor choice to set the game before ME3, or especially during the events of the trilogy because we know the outcome of it.

There wasn't any word of another glorious N7 marine who made some important choices by exploring some planets behind undiscovered mass relays, sorry.

Are people a bit over-reacting now? Yes, in every sense of the word.

First no one has said anything about game being set in the same time as ME1-3. Second considering that the look of the mako and the armour is significantly different than what we saw before I would say it strongly suggests that IT IS NOT set during ME1-3.

Plus considering its like 2 images and a statement that is so short you cant even make a haiku out of it I would chill the frak out and wait for more news. Plus considering the source of this is a site called "gamerant"  I would not believe anything it says.

Damn has this fact been confirmed by other news sources?? Maybe it's speculation and subject to change??

To me, this would be a bummer. I don't want to have Cerberus, Reapers, Collectors, or Geth as enemy forces anymore. Maybe the "whole new region of space" is an excuse to get away from those things, but that still means the frickin Reapers are still out there, and since it's N7, that means they're not ridiculously far from Alliance space (unless they bring in silly space worm hole magic). Ugh fck Reapers.

according to the game itself, it said that an Alliance black-ops team went wrong about "6 months ago" during the events of ME1. I trust the game itself far more than a wiki that can be edited by anyone.

also the movies cost 6-10 bucks, not 60 or whatever the price of a brand new ME4 will be. you could also fast-forward them if you got bored. can't fast-forward the game. you might be happy with low standards, but the rest of us like to get our money's worth.

From the Shadow brokers in game dossier

Activity Highlights (for more extensive list of shell companies, see "Cerberus Economic Structure, Vol. 1-4")

2157 - Manifesto published.

2160 - Facility on Pragia constructed.

2161 - Subject Zero born. CDR Holdings purchased. Terra Nova Commonwealth Bank purchased.

2162 - Infiltration of human media begins, specializing in extrasolar news: Constant Times; Scott Examiner; nascent Galactic Broadcasting Corporation.

2163 - Project DOORWAY makes forgery of Council-standard medicards and identitags possible, allowing agents unrestricted movement.

2164 - Scott Examiner destroys credibility of Vera Safin, front-runner for Prime Minister of Systems Alliance. Leak to Galactic Broadcasting Corporation stopped by agents in place.

2165 - Operatives steal antimatter from the SSV Geneva. Assignment goes wrong, but discipline holds and squad fights to the death. Sole survivor divulges little but names his sponsor "Cerberus." Recruitment increases, but stringent standards slow growth.

2166 - Haribon Military Industries purchased on Terra Nova. Legitimate arms contract to colonial forces; models without serial numbers produced for export to crime syndicates in batarian space, Terminus Systems.

2167 - Cerberus agents among humans recruited into Global Maritime Justice organization on Trident.

2168 - Assassination of 22 salarian crime syndicate members on Trident leads to takeover of narcotics trade. Reprisals bloody but tolerable. Milky Way Foundation created to funnel money. New Dawn Pharmaceuticals purchased to begin project TRAPDOOR.

2169 - TRAPDOOR experiments on asari captives with omega-enkaphalin to measure disruption of biotic powers. Estimate 2.5 mg active ingredient for each 25 kg of body weight; under 7.5 mg dose optimal to avoid detection by taste or smell; 3-5 Citadel standard days onset period; powers return in 2-5 Cit-stan days after last dose taken; permanent damage possible.

2170 - Nanosurgery on Subject Zero successful: omega-enkaphalin fails to work on appropriate receptors. Program begins to instill other Cerberus operatives with resistance to "O-E."

2171 - Pope Clement XVI assassinated via rosary beads coated with sodium nonacetate and dimethyl sulfoxide. Death attributed to age and heart failure. Replacement, Pope Leo XIV, has eschatological beliefs in-line with militarizing humanity; forgiving attitude to salarians re: genophage proves useful for strategic alliances against turians.

2173 - Inez Simmons resigns as head of Terra Firma party; front-runner Claude Mennau assassinated; Charles Saracino much more tractable.

2174 - Radium placed inside office chair of Systems Alliance parliamentarian Artyom Gavrikov. Gavrikov's death attributed to cancer. Emergency election much cheaper to manipulate than normal process. Cerberus-backed candidate loses; winning candidate approached, found susceptible to bribes.

2175 - Michael Moser Lang approached by operatives in militia community -- insider information given for stock buy to provide him with funding. Contact severed, but electronic surveillance remains. Lang purchases armaments.
--Influx of humans into Trident political scene leads to renaming of capital with human name - New Cousteau.

2176 - Electronic surveillance removed from Lang's home. Lang kills Enrique Aguilar and Ying Xiong. Resulting approval bump for Vice-President Belknap allows passage of financial reform bill allowing for increased loopholes in colony-based shell companies. Fighting among Vice-Premiers a bonus, as Lin Yi alienates Politburo Standing Committee and his chances of election to the Systems Alliance Parliament are dashed.

2177 - Successful acquisition of Light Shadow Pictures' proprietary "RealityPlus" video editing machine. Capacity to forge photorealistic video is now unsurpassed.

2181 - Matriarch Tilia Eraza targeted with omega-enkaphalin. Claims of biotic superiority to non-biotics deflated once her powers fail. Voice in citizen legislature considerably diminished.

2181 - Military arm creates posts on planet Binthu.

2182 - MSV Anixara sabotaged. Catalyst added to metastable metallic hydrogen fuel by timer injection. Ship breaks apart during FTL, all hands aboard lost, turian Hierarchy hawk Raherix Ursivus killed in the process. Explosion attributed to faulty engineering.
- Admiral Kahoku begins investigation of suspected Cerberus activities.

If it makes you feel better....Jack's very existence put's the lie to Cerberus only starting 6 months before ME 1. After all she was taken as a little girl and then spent some time under their care, before spending a few years running from them. The two years between ME 1 & 2 is not long enough to account for her current age.

While I'm sure the timeline of ME-ME3 is not true (or, at least I hope not), my interest would probably drop, just need to wait on more information.

Plus, the new Mako looks....bad.
