And now you're doing the same thing he did.

Are you the new spokesperson the Mass Effect fandom?

Really? Hmmm, I guess I missed the part where 'many' equates to 'the majority'.

The difference is, I don't pretend to know what 'most' people think/want.

Hush hush....

Same thing, the word "many" implies a sizable portion and in order to use it you'd have to have a rudimentary idea of what the numbers are.

It's still an unfounded, conjectural statement.

Plus you are extremely obnoxious.

Uh huh and a sizable portion and "the majority" are not mutually exclusive. (not the same thing)

Your ignorance is "extremely obnoxious".

Are you challenged or...?

You reply to critique with a non sequitur.

You can not use either word. Both imply knowledge which you could not possibly possess.

 No quite...

A majority requires exact data. Many is a sizable amount. It's not the same thing. I won't even ask if you're challenged. You've demonstrated it so acutely.

Whether exact or approximate does not matter. You have neither.

Add to that the fact that you have not qualified your statement with anything like "I think..." or "It seems to me that...".

This makes it a categorical statement.

Wrong....the majority exceeds an exact percentage. Many does not. Keep trying.....

If the next game is truly a spin off set during the original trilogy, I really hope that all of the aliens I allied with and all of the issues that I helped resolved for them are not suddenly reverted to Pre-ME 3 levels.

I convinced the Batarians to join forces with the species of the galaxy; I don't want to see every Batarian I run into be a human racist or a human racist mercenary that would sooner shoot me in the face then talk to me.

I helped cure the Genophage and recruited the aid of the Krogan; I don't want to see every Krogan I meet opining about the Genophage and how hard the galaxy is.

I worked out peace with the Quarians and the Geth; I don't want every Geth I see to be an enemy and for all the Quarians I see talking about how they will reclaim Rannoch one day.

I rescued the Rachni Queen and convinced her to help in the fight against the Reapers; I would actually like to see the Rachni in future titles, and have them not be monsters to just kill.

I am all for playing as a new character; I just don't want to see all the conflict and drama between the alien races be issues that I have already dealt with.

"Whether exact or approximate does not matter. You have neither."

Please attempt to deconstruct this sentence, word by word if that will make it easier. It refers to knowledge.

Also, a majority is not an exact percentage and can be anywhere between 51% and 99% (rounded).

Reread the post kid. Majority is exceeds (exactly) 50%. Whether it's 51 or 99. The MAJORITY has an exact amount to exceed in order to qualify as the majority. "many" does not. I don't need to deconstruct your sentence which is unsuccessfully trying to deconstruct mine.

Never mind need, I asked you to do it.

So....I'm obligated to deconstruct your sentence which fails to deconstruct my previous statement in the first place? I think not....

I never said I had or needed "exact or approximate" data in order to use the term "many". However, an exact amount is needed in order to determine the "majority". Which your buddy doesn't have. Which separates the two of us on the subject. Fail on your part. Carry on....

So, what you're saying is: "I haven't said it so it doesn't apply to me."

What kind of world do you live in?

The point is, you do need some kind of data to be able to proclaim the opinion of whatever number of people.

The person you argued with initially did have data, the question was merely whether that data was representative which can be argued either way.

You on the other hand had nothing at all. What did you base your conclusion on?

What kind of world did you learn how to read in? What kind of world did you learn the English language in? Once again I'll say it: "many" and "majority" are not the same/not mutually exclusive. What part don't you understand?  Clearly you haven't been around the BSN too much...."many" people here don't want to save the damn galaxy. That  doesn't mean that the "majority" does or doesn't want to save it all over again. It just means that it doesn't take a goddamned poll to know that there's a "sizable amount" of BSNers that don't want anything of the sort.

But you would know that....anybody who's been here the past few years would.

Dear lord...

It does take something if you're going to use it in an argument with another person, unless you qualify the statement as an estimate, which you haven't done.

Plus, when the other person argued using data from polls done among other places on the BSN, you dismissed his argument by proclaiming the polls unrepresentative of the fanbase.

Then, you used not even a poll but an unsubstantiated personal estimate of the opinion of those same "BSNers" to argue against him.

Also, your exact words were "Many fans..." not "Many BSNers..."

You are beyond full of it.

There is no "lord"....

But anyways,  the fatal flaw in your whole weird crusade you have going here is that you can't put an exact on the "many". It can be dozens of people. It could be hundreds or thousands. It does not matter. It just means that there's more than a few. More than a hand full. More than several.

Whereas the majority....well, the majority would require a number exceeding 50%. It's a strict requirement. Many is a broad term. It has no distinct or exact requirement. You say your bud referenced polls. He said "all the polls I've seen". Cool. Fyi....That's not a reference

Hence why I said: "You're doing the same thing."

I never said the words have the same meaning, but rather that in this circumstance, both of you are arguing from ignorance, for which reason it does not matter which of the two terms is used.

Using either a personal estimate or an impression of the opinion of any amount of people, be it a handful or truckload, is impermissible in an argument without anything to back it up.

PS: I used "Dear lord..." as an expression of disillusionment, it has nothing to do with belief, or is that also too hard to fathom?

Private messaging seems creepy to me, invasive.

Also, what's wrong with debating? This is a forum after all.

But yeah, you're right. It's not on topic.
