Hey now, don't you start acting like exploration made sense in the 'race against time' to find Saren.

Or that it made sense to scan for minerals after Cerberus spend billions and billions to resurrect you and give you a new ship. (must've ran out of cash to give you weapons and minerals and the like)

Only in ME3 does the 'exploration' make sense.

True in both ME1 and ME2 it wasnt exactly in line with the main story. I just meant considering that we players know that Reapers are out there if the game is set in ME1-ME3 era and it would be hard to reconcile that with a story line that focused on exploration. After all in ME1 you could just skip all of those bits and just do the main story on its own, its harder but doable without all that extra equipment and credits, as for ME2 the resource scanning thing was retarded, I have no idea who thought it would be a good feature to include.

There are a few voices out there saying the Next Mass Effect is during the Trilogy so guess what instead of doing the difficult and right thing in making Mass Effect 4 or a Mass Effect after ME3 here comes the likely Mass Effect: 3rd person shooter / RPG / PVE / PVP / MMO set in between ME and ME2 or rather the dead Shepard period and here comes the EA corporate tagline "Microtransactions.... if it's in the game it's in the game.... microtransactions"

This is so disappointing, I was really hoping it would be set in the future (at least 100 years would be great) since it adds more opportunities for new races, conflicts and a slightly different galaxy than the one we saw in the first three games. I don't know what they would have done about the endings, I guess if you set it far enough into the future it may not even matter at all (maybe the whole Geth situation might have but they could include different codex entries or something to explain certain things). I dunno, setting it at the same time as the first three games seems to limit a whole lot of things for the next game(s).

Not a few; just one journalist who had 'a feeling'. Nothing from Bioware, just some gal/dude having 'a feeling'. That's it.

See above. You people are getting all worked up by something that one person thought and decided to share with the world. A person that doesn't work for BioWare, I might add, just a random journalist who has trouble keeping his/her wild imaginations out of his reporting.

Oh right okay, I didn't even read the link aha. But yeah I really hope this isn't true and the journalist didn't get any ideas from stuff Bioware have said/hinted,

I hope this doesn't check out. I really think that a time jump into the future is a much better option.

Sadly BioWare under EA likely won't make any definitive statement about it untill a reasonable amount of preorders happen.

there wasn't any confirmation on the timeline, why do people keep saying there was....

however I think the existence of the Mako means that we aren't going to see any massive jumps in Chronology.  It'll either be a prequel, concurrent story or set shortly after ME3

According to Gamespot: "It did not say where or when the story will take place in the Mass Effect universe."

Big company as Gamespot wouldn't have been this clear unless Bioware truly did said game is set in Shepard's lifetime. Instead they said it's unknown, very plainly and simple.

Article OP posted is clearly misleading.

I would hate a prequel and concurrent story (unless it was in a different galaxy).  My biggest preference is just after ME3 in a different galaxy in which to explore.

People don't even know what the story could be about.

What if it's going to be sort of like a prelude to the next big threat post-Reapers?

What if this story is just as big but the new protag is able to contain it before it gets out of hand?

What if the new protag gets transported to some unknown part of space and his goal is find his way back, and discover some horrible race of aliens along the way?

What if it goes more into the Catalyst, and this protag actually discovers the true origins?

Or discovers that the Catalyst is the next big threat?

What if this protag is the true hero that no one will ever know because Shepard hogged the spotlight?

Or so what if it's a more personal story about this protag's adventures across the universe? There's nothing wrong with that!

There's nothing wrong with any of these ideas.

YaY, while theres a bunch of people complaining About Some stupid site posting Some specualtions dressed up As if it is fact
I am actually happy for the news That is ACTUALLY CONFIRMED

YAY. Great Desision BIOWARE And thank you. For Bringing back the MAKO yessssssssss!!!!!!
I was hoping for it in ME3 as I had big fun driving around in it
Tho this is actually a MAKO 2.0 but it's easily recognized as a MAKO I My only hope is that it still has the GUN on top
And not the rockets of the M44 Hammerhead
Also I hope it retains is own incredible armor instead off the paper thin Armor of the M44 Hammerhead

All I want to hear now I'd planet exploration like it was in ME1 and it's an instant Preorder/ buy for me
But I am guessing planet exploration like ME1 is also back else Why would they bring back the MAKO

Thank you anyway at BW for bringing back MY MAKO........

Bioware has stated that exploration will be a big focus. I'm glad to have the Mako back.

This is all based on weather those place reporting it are correct. I read about it on the Escapist, and saw a news feed.  She paid careful attention to make sure that it was only a theory not to be taken as fact.  I would prefer a really good and epic story like what I loved about Mass Effect, so I am hoping that they just do something awesome!

I could handle them going this ending is cannon, or whatever.  I can understand if they don't want to do that, so people can have their thing.  But Setting it in the future or just another story set in the same universe, or something.  Just give me the emotion and the investment.  Make it as good, make the characters as engaging, make it as awesome and you will see a big smile on this face!  :)

There seems to be a limited understanding of what "set during the same time period as the first ME trilogy" means:

  1. The game could start during the events of ME3 but could conclude at the same time or after.  As we have seen in DA2, it is not out of the realm of possibility that this one game could span years, not days or months.
  2. This does not rule out a sequel taking place after the events of ME3...just in another part of space.

A para-quel could work. We know from Cerberus/Arrival/Leviathan the Alliance is always funding/supporting Black-Ops. What if after the Battle of the Citadel, Hackett goes to the Council to create a joint-species op to activate a dormant Mass Relay or two and go in search of resources, new allies, etc. Since the council's in on it, they can keep it off the grid/play dumb. This fits the explore new areas of space, familiar species, new species, exploration, separate from Shepard, etc. Since it's a secret Black Op, no mention of it in the Shep Trilogy makes sense. The game(s) have about a 2 1/2 year window to work with before the Reaper War starts, at which point, all communication with 'home' goes dark.

All speculation until we see the actual video from the panel and find out what was really said/shown regarding the game.

You still knew that you pretty much saved the galaxy at that point.

I know the storyline is not confirmed, I know that no real information was given about when the game takes place. All that said, I am amazed at people (humans mostly) who make silly statements like "You saved the galaxy". Sure you saved a lot of people and ended a war....but the galaxy itself would keep on spinning whether your here or not.

Let's all take a step back and consider just how massive the galaxy actually is.

I hope this is not the case. I already know how the galaxy will turn out, so doing anything before or during might seem kind of pointless.

Well if you look at the N7 guy new armour and mako that could be hints its set after me3 since we never seen this stuff in sheps time. But then again bungie put new stuff in reach so this game could be a prequel.

This game could be set before first contact and maybe the new N7 guy finds the 314 relay and sets up the war.

That's a bit heavy.

I wouldn't ascribe that high a level of sliminess even to EA.

Plus it doesn't seem likely that they could postpone revealing basic information on the setting until pre-order time.
