Hi Bioware,

This is the first time I’m posting on the forums but I’ve been around for a while. Since December 1998 kind of “a while” so I self-classify myself as a long-time, even if not too vocal, fan.

Baldur’s Gate was what got me into cRPGs full time and I played every Infinity Engine based cRPG that followed it enjoying every single one.

Neverwinter Nights didn’t do as much for me and NWN2 was a big disappointment. Luckily Jade Empire came in between but it didn’t wow as much as Baldur’s Gate once did. That was a period in BioWare’s history that I sometimes refer to as “The Great Meh”.

After that however came Dragon age Origins and Mass Effect and damn did I get hooked again. I think I might have topped gameplay time I spent on both Baldur’s Gates with those two games. They were fresh, different from what was on the market back then and had great storytelling. But most of all they meant to me – Dragon Age Origins mostly – that “mah BioWare is back”. A fact that made me feel all warm and fuzzy all over and was what made me finally sell my soul and join the digital distribution age.

Mass Effect 2 & Mass Effect 3 are to me still the pinnacle of BioWare’s storytelling (scratch the ME3 epilogue) and I’d easily put ME2 in the top 5 of my most favorite games ever.

In the meanwhile trouble started brewing however. The generic SWtOR, the abomination of Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 final mission and ending (which I won’t get into cause what was meant to be said has been said many times over already).

I have to admit that those three failures (I’m sorry. That’s what they are in my eyes) have left me rather bitter and in a state of disbelief in BioWare’s capacity to make quality cRPGs anymore. That persisted for a long while and when I learned of Dragon Age Inquisition I was like “Meh. Frack that.”

Then some trailers found my way through the amazing power of targeted marketing and the big brother’s favorite dish – cookies. The trailer actually made me raise my brow in a mildly intrigued manner, which was a lot considering how much I’ve lost faith in this company at that stage. I began lurking and after a few months of struggling through all dem romance threads I’m here writing this post. And here is what I have to say:

I still am not 100% convinced you can deliver what you’ve promised BioWare. What I’ve seen so far is impressive and is enough for me to preorder the game but I have some reservations about there being any kind of personality to the inquisitor, judging just from what I’ve seen in terms of gameplay so far. Same thing with promises of open world which seems like a few flat plains connected through narrow passages (At least that’s how Hinterlands look) which is not what an open world is IMO.

However I do think you’re on a right track. Amount of detail that goes into the game is impressive, the engine is great, plot seems to be what BioWare fans like the most and enemy is intimidating enough. Companions and romances are varied and tactical combat is back. If you deliver on customization, crafting and dialogues then DA Inquisition will have a shot at competing with Witcher 3.

If you deliver I think that plenty of your fans that you’ve lost over the last 3 games will come back. If you don’t then I think you’ll share the fate of Black Isle in a few years.

That said however I’m cautiously optimistic. The delay till November is a sign of things changing and the rumors I’ve heard about the new terms of contract with EA are even more significant. I’m hopeful that once I’ve beaten Dragon Age Inquisition I’ll be able to once again say “Mah BioWare is back” and return to being hyped about your games instead of anxious.

One last thing – my gut tells me you can do it so don’t suck.

Cheers :)

I'd like to encourage the devs to push the release date back to October 7th.

I wouldn't.

If the game needs to be polished then a delay is a good thing. You want to play a rushed BioWare game? There is always Dragon Age 2 ;).

I think some patience will do us good here.

I've been patient for three years.  You want to play a game that takes forever to come out but still turns out to be garbage?  There is always Duke Nukem Forever.  ;)

Not three years in case of Duke Nukem and if you think DA Inquisition is going to be a garbage then why care and not cancel the preorder?

Just chill mate. Most people hare are likely waiting as long as you are.

Eh, you're right.  I think all this waiting and boredom is making me testy.  As for your original post, I only started to grow disilisusioned with BioWare after ME 3.  DA 2 I didn't mind so much.  I was the odd one out with that game.

I'll agree to disagree Thawitchking. Some pushed back games do come out not finished. For some the delays do well. Depends on the company. To me that's one of the things BioWare needs to prove before I say they're back in my graces. But I'm not pessimistic at this point.

And it's ok Chron0id. We're all on edge from the lack of quality cRPGs :).

I would encourage the Devs to do more of what they want and less of worrying about what fans want.  As for release dates?  unfortunately I think that has more to do with EA than bioware.  Bioware can attempt to push release dates back but they would need EA's permission (EA does give it now and then)

Inquisition looks great so far and it seems like BioWare are taking a lot of fan feedback on-board from their previous few games. I'd like the series to go back to its RPG roots and it seems like that's where Inquisition is going. At least from what I've seen so far.
