Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has a unqiue class build that has a completely different experience like a "7th class". I've red somewhere of a Tank-Sentinel and an Ice-Type class. So I'm wondering if anyone has something else.

I have finished one whole trilogy as a vangusrd. I currently have an ME3 engineer and an ME1 infiltrator.

Check this thread for some ME2 build suggestions. There is a link in there for ME1 builds. (Note that I don't think the original post was updated since the move to the new forum software. Some of the links may not work anymore. Here is a post with all the links updated, and a post with additional suggestions that were not originally added to the post.)

And here is a thread for ME3.

The only real advice I can give you is use your imagination. Most builds have been tried and probably documented by now.

Sometimes, just switching the bonus power can really change a class's playstyle. My personal favorite is this ME2 Engineer build:

1 - Overload (for detonating pyros)

0 - Incinerate

4 - Attack Drone

4 - Full Cryo Blast

4 - Improved AI Hacking

4 - Mechanic

4 - Bonus Power

By switching out the bonus power, you can change how the build plays:

 - Enhanced Dominate for a puppet master playstyle

 - Enhanced Stasis for a lockdown playstyle

 - Crippling Slam for setting up Warp bombs with Miranda and/or Thane, or Liara in Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC. (Crippling Slam is good in case you miss the Warp Bomb as it will keep the enemy on the ground for 5 seconds).

 - Flashbang for overheating enemy weapons for about 6 seconds, giving you time to strip defenses with your weapons before freezing them with Cryo Blast (I have not done this yet by the way but I plan to try it).

And taking a different bonus weapon on the Disabled Collector Ship can also change your playstyle. Take shotguns on a class that does not have shotguns for example, for some close-quarters-combat (CQC). For another example, a Soldier with the Claymore plays completely different than a Soldier with the Widow.

To perhaps elaborate further, assuming you do not mod or exploit any points-assigning glitch, if you are min/maxing a character your final build on all classes will look like one of the following:

4 - Power 1

4 - Power 2

4 - Power 3

4 - Power 4

0 - Power 5

4 - Passive

1 - Bonus Power

4 - Power 1

4 - Power 2

4 - Power 3

1 - Power 4

0 - Power 5

4 - Passive

4 - Bonus Power

4 - Power 1

0 - Power 2

4 - Power 3

4 - Power 4

4 - Power 5

4 - Passive

1 - Bonus Power

4 - Power 1

0 - Power 2 *

4 - Power 3

4 - Power 4

0 - Power 5 *

4 - Passive

4 - Bonus Power

 * 1 point left over

1 - Power 1

0 - Power 2

4 - Power 3

4 - Power 4

4 - Power 5

4 - Passive

4 - Bonus Power

So by playing around with different bonus powers and build setups, you can probably find something unique and different for that class.

I think you saw my thread about the Tank Sentinel. It offers a very different experience from the tradition caster sentinel. Maybe it's the most extreme case of a build changing completely the game experience, but I've seen some chargeless vanguards around there, as well different types of engineer (controller or elemental). Never tried that variations myself.
Speaking of builds, I think there are five ways to fully upgrade a Level 30 character:

  • 4444410: Five powers fully upgraded, one one-point power and one power is unavailable.
  • 4444321: Four powers upgraded to rank 4, one to rank 3, one to rank 2 and one to rank 1 (one point left).
  • 4444222: Four powers upgraded to rank 4, three to rank 2 (two points left).
  • 4443332: Three powers upgraded to rank 4, three to rank 3 and one to rank 2.
  • 4433333: Two powers upgraded to rank 4, five to rank 3 (one point left).

I had three 4443332 Shepards, one 4444321, one 4444222, one 4444410 and finally one that was 44444000 (11 points left). I believe the choice depends on how many powers you can afford to ignore or just spend few points in, rather than how many you want to fully upgrade.

Didn't realize there's so many discussions of this.

I've currently thought of an engineer that uses only Incinerate, Cryo Blast, Overload and a bonus power Reave/Dark-Channel. Will try experimenting maybe this weekend.
