I have a question here, I'm planning to play a new game with an Hawke that romances Merrill, but sleeps with Isabela once. I wanted to know if I can unlock her romance armor while saying it was just for fun, or do I need to pick the heart for it to be unlocked?

I'm fairly certain the armor is unlocked immediately after going to bed with her.

I've romanced her and never got her armor. I play on the ps3 so that might have something to do with it. I don't know.

I tried that when I asked on her thread, however long ago, and it didn't work.

If you say "It's just for fun", then armor doesn't change. You'd have to proceed with the romance.

I thought she still wears the new armour even if you say it was "just for fun". I'm sure I remember a playthrough where both her and Fenris were wearing the red arm band thingy and I know I couldn't have continued either of those romances because that Hawke ended up with Merrill. This was on ps3.

I can only speak for the PS3 at the moment (as I haven't gotten to this point on my PC version), but if you sleep with Isabela at any point, no matter if you say "it's just for fun" or not, her armor will change. On the PS3, the act of sleeping with her is enough to change her armor without needing an actual relationship with her. I've had it happen on multiple characters.

I managed to unlock Isabela's armor after sleeping with her. She still kept it even after I romanced Merrill.

I play on PS3 and all i had to do was take Isabela to the Black emporium. Her outfit then automatically updated, no potion required.

I too play on the ps3 and never been able to get her new armor no matter what I do. Maybe I will take the copy I have and throw it in the garbage and buy a new copy to see if that fixes the problem.

You must have a unique problem. I play on PS3 too and it changes. Seems like you have the right idea. Best to throw out the copy you have. Not having that red armband is game-breaking.

Don't forget the corset, or is that there before?

...I don't know... I thought the corset showed up afterwards too but dismissed it as that red armband playing tricks on my eyes. Isabela seemed more "naked" before getting that armband...

I play on PC and have had it bug once.  Most of the time, even if you don't proceed to another romance, the armor takes a while to show up.  If it doesn't show up, don't worry about it.  It's only visual and all the in-game dialog and epilogue states work correctly,

lol Unless you try to romance both Fenris and Isabela then it becomes a buggy mess.

On one of my playthroughs, I unlocked Isabela's armor by sleeping with her and taking the 'it's just for fun' option.  Then flirted and romanced Merrill.  Both ended up in romanced armor.  I am unsure if this is a bug or what.  I got confused, thinking I'd broken something, but Isabela's lines with Merrill in regards to Hawke were the 'friend' ones, not romanced or former romanced.

Buying a new copy won't resolve the issue. It's a known bug with PC and the PS3 that Isabela's appearance sometimes won't change after you romance her. There are a couple potential solutions:

- If Isabela is romanced, her outfit may not properly update to the newer version. Using the Maker's Sigh potion from the Black Emporium to respec her skills will update her outfit, picking up any armor upgrades for her also seems to work. It has been reported that her romance outfit can also be triggered by pressing the "Escape" key right after the bed scene (PC only).

- If the Legacy DLC is installed and you sleep with Isabela, but do not pursue a romance she may still receive her romance armor (PC, PS3).

The relationship arc between Isabela and Merrill is incredibly buggy. If you try to romance both it's known to lead to a variety of issues that BioWare never addressed. The basic prerequisite to unlock gear, however, is just to progress the relationship to romance.
