It's also possible that you may want to try a different character by then. We all may. Our characters have stories, but once that story is told, we may want to explore other RP opportunities. I'm not trying to get rid of Tempest! I adore her! I'm just saying that if people want to swap out or try something else, we can work with that.
Yeah, understood.
We can see when the time comes. If the time comes.

I will never give up Rael! NEVER!!! ![]()
Also, going back to a previous topic, Rael would NOT want to be a Grey Warden.
Yeah, right now, we're all just getting into our characters' stride, so I can well imagine that nobody wants to think about the possibility of rolling a new character. But everybody is different, and some people might want to try something different for a while, and that's OK too.
The only time I would insist that you roll a new character would be if your character died. The odds of that are slim. It would take a fumble followed by a disastrous saving throw followed by a string of really bad luck. It can happen, but the odds aren't high.
Or a character could opt to undergo the Joining and fail by rolling triples.** That's instant death. But how often do we roll triples, right?
And reading through the GM Guide, it looks as if the focus eventually shifts toward more Grey Warden centric activities, but that becoming a Warden is entirely optional. No one has to do it. The entire party can abstain from undergoing the ritual, but they may find themselves working with Wardens at some point.
** And even then, there's GM prerogative to make it specific triples, like a natural 3, so that reduces the odds further.
