Well, that really depends on the person though. Off-host it's a no-brainer to not bring Acolyte, but On-host, against Phantoms, if using Harrier, Assault RIfles are a poor choice against Phantoms. Sure, you can Overload them too if you want, but you would still have to deal with their dodging and on-host DR. I guess, it's really personal preference and since Acolyte X is only 20pts. in weight, it wouldn't hurt much. But I do agree that needing to switch to a secondary weapon gets tedious.

I agree with this for the most part. I'd rather not pain myself over phantoms while hosting so taking an acolyte along is fine. For the purpose of dealing with shields/barrier in general? Absolutely superfluous for non-projectile weapons.

I don't think phantoms are a big deal with the combination of overload with a high damage-per-shot weapon like the saber, however (same with melee setups)

I can't really say I've seen an overload of Turian ghosts. In fact I've only seen one in the last few days, and that was played by me.

...true story. It eats even the shields of a Praetorian like butter. Plus it also staggers them, even twice with a single clip. As I said before, it's a monster D:

And it's tedious to switch to the Acolyte if you do it with every damn shielded enemy you see, but not if you filter them out to elites only. Well, at least in Gold and below.

I only bring a sidearm on the TGI for phantoms. And I take the Scorpion instead for that.

Good choice. But I don't see any other use for the Scorpion rather than to kill things with it, whereas I can already do that with the Saber way more efficiently. The Acolyte is merely a tool I use to soften up annoying enemies like Atlases, Banshees, Praetorians and Primes before headshooting them to death.

And the thing is that it's not a bad choice at all against Phantoms either.

That's why I said I only use it for Phantoms...

BY THE WAY    all of BSNs TGI builds are really fukking stupid    6/6/6/6/0   yeah    phuk being able to take 3 scion or ravenger shots on Gold  just eat ****     even with a cyclon 4   if you stim up before the 3rd shot  full shiels yet  down to 1 health bar   Brilliant whoever designed that build  but at least you are carrying 2-3 more stim packs  then you actually need

Idk what build guide you're reading and automatically applying to everyone else, but I run 4/4 Fitness/Stim split :P

Alternatively, you could try not standing out in the open like a noob and eating Ravager/Scion shots to the face.

I find that really adds to the TGI's survivability.  That, and, you know, the virtually unlimited number of stim packs which instantly restore shields.

my point was if you are getting nailed by whatever   atlas  banshee   you can take the hit then stim pack it and be just fine   no fitness with a cyclon 4  any  of those will healthgate you   you can stim before dying but lost all your health  my build  you take the hit stim up like nothing happened and laugh it off like a turian   zero fitness  hit by a charging brute with 1 cannibal nearby     you die   my build    it never happened  destroy eveything      i sacrifice 2 additional stim packs in order to be durable

Or you can use Stims for the I-Frames and not take damage in the first place.

Heh, I used to do that a lot. In truth, I'm still trying to overcome that bad habit. Luckily the Saber is kinda helping me with that.

Although that bad habit returned a bit while getting the Pistol Mastery banner + N7 Eagle, but oh well...I managed to survive until I got it :P (the Eagle is a hell of a weapon btw...100k in my 1st try with it under Gold/Reapers).

Well, the Eagle does require a bit more out of cover time to get off the same amount of damage as the Saber...I mean, unless it really gets some huge bonuses between VIII-X.  Underrated pistol though, it's true.  Not my personal favourite, but I can see why people like it.

What capn223 said.  You can also pre-empt, since a maxed out stim pack gives you 3150 shields for 6 seconds, in addition to the i-frames.

I really doubt the extra 350 shields really make that big a difference.  Unless you're running around and being totally oblivious, letting Ravagers and Brutes and Atlases blindside you.  In which case, well, that might just be the problem...

Personally I take 5 Fitness, 3 Stim.

Why?

Because relying on Stims has a strong tendency to make me a very shiny, pretty corpse.

That makes me want to go towards the shiny corpse and touch it. I call that a plus on getting revives.

OK, now I know what you mean, and I Approve.

Never thought I'd have problems deciding between the Scorpion and the Acolyte. But the former is almost an anti-Phantom gun :D (and just what I needed).
