I finally got around to playing DA2 and I've really been enjoying the ride so far, I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea but I appreciate the effort to try something different and I find the sparkle outshines the dull parts overall. I'm playing a ladyhawke warrior who has successfully romanced Isabela (I didn't think she was coming back, the reunion early in Act 3 was great.) Anyhoo, I don't have any of the DLC outside of the special vendor and the promotional pack. I'm not going to bother with the gear DLCs unless someone can convince me otherwise but I was wondering if I should pick up the story DLCs, which ones or all. I've noticed the opinion that most people have is to wait until Act 3 to do them as it fills out a less busy chapter so I'm at the right point. So when I get home should I just jump back in and play out the act or lay down some coin for BW points? (for crying out loud, just do straight cash prices for DAI/ME4 dlc, PLEASE)
Just hit Act III, first playthrough

The story DLC are rather difficult so it's better to play them at act 3 because you are an high level character at that point, not to mention loot is much better. I would say, yes get them, they are fun at their own right and the Legacy DLC adds to the story, while Mark of the assassin feels more like an vacation to all of that craziness in Kirkwall. If you play Legacy bring Varric, Anders and Bethany (if alive), these 3 have the biggest amount of dialogue. In mark of the assassin, I would suggest bringing Bethany as this is one of the few occasions to have her around outside of act 1 and then either Aveline or Isabela, as both of them have an very unique quest.

Play the DLC when you have the full Champion set, it not only makes you look awesome but you should be pretty strong by than to take on the challenges. Especially the stuff in Legacy.
Bethany really does have a lot to say in Legacy for sure, bringing her and Varric is best. Anders does get a special item drop if he's in your party when you complete Legacy.
So anyway, yeah... MOTA and Legacy are really good sets of DLC and blow all the previous DLC out of the water. MoTA is simply hilarious and Legacy brings a lot of insight to the Hawke family as well as family bonding moments. Especially with Bethany, even more so if you made her a Grey Warden in Act 1.

The Assassin and Legacy dlc's are good. I usually do them in Act 3, though I have completed both in the other two acts. When I do Assassin dlc, I bring my LI, Isabela, with me for some added dialogue.
The Exiled prince dlc, that gives you Sebastian as another companion, isn't bad. You won't be able to have him join you till Act 2. And if you like Leliana, she makes an appearance in Act 3.

I've got 2/4 of the Champion's set, so I guess my plan is to get the helm and boots, d/l MOTA and legacy and drag Betty and Isabela around for some more adventures. I think I'll wait on Prince for my next playthru but we'll see.

I think they're all good and worth getting.
I actually prefer Mark of the Assassin in Act 1; I like the challenge and it fits my character better to do it in that Act. (Each experience is different depending on the Act you play it in (especially Legacy, I gather) and in which one you prefer depends on your personal preferences and your character). MOTA has some hilarious moments, challenging boss fights, and some insights into the Qunari.
Legacy is more directly related to Hawke as it involves the Hawke family. I first played it as a f!rogue in the first Act and brought along Bethany; there was some interesting banter about Leandra dealing with her grief and depression. I hear it is also interesting bringing Anders (haven't done that yet, but I will be this playthrough).
The Exiled Prince is also worthwhile to pick up. Even if you don't care for Sebastian, I think he brings some interesting content along with him.

Mark of the Assassin is more of a fun side quest.
The Legacy DLC is actually important, as the antagonist is a very strong individual and the story itself is good.

MoTA seems like a great buffer to "fill in" the gap between Act 2 and Act 3 and with how much the Qun factors into it the DLC does acknowledge your Act 2 exploits and if you've earned the respect of the Arishok. However, it looks odd to be acknowledged as "Champion" without the Champion set so that's why I always wait til later Act 3, when I have the full set, to do it and simply place it between the time skip in my head.
The end Dialogue does change a lot for Legacy depending on when you do it.
Before Deep Roads Expedition.
Before Leandra's death.
After Leandra's death.
With minor additions and mentions depending upon the Act you're on.

I will add my voice and say that Legacy is really good. Its probably the best part of DA2. It may also contain story stuff that ends up being important in a future DA. If you are only going to buy a single DA2 DLC, Legacy is the one to get.

Started up Legacy last night after completing my champion's set, it looks good so far. Nice to have a change of scenery. I had a small question regarding my meeting with Alistair. His assistant mentioned that the hero of Ferelden was waiting in Denerim, but my Warden left with Morrigan at the end of Witch Hunt. Is this an import error? I suppose if it is, Keeper should be able to fix it for DA?

The Warden could have come back. Regardless, the Keep will likely address this.I had a small question regarding my meeting with Alistair. His assistant mentioned that the hero of Ferelden was waiting in Denerim, but my Warden left with Morrigan at the end of Witch Hunt.

If you are really into the series, just buy the story DLCs (Exiled Prince, Legacy, MotA). They're overpriced as all DLCs are but if you're the type that replays games many times then you'll get your money's worth.
In MotA I wouldn't bring your sibling. I know you barely see them but it feels out of place. Aveline/Isabela have great synergy and both have unique quests.
In Legacy bring Anders, Varric, and your sibling.

Legacy I brought Varric (bro goes everywhere with me, he's funny and I like to open chests), Bethany (of course) and Isabela, my LI. Anders brings something to the table? Can't say I like him as a teammate or character. He whines constantly and even with his maxxed out healing and buff trees I find my party does much better with a dps mage like Merill.

Remember to find the hidden boss in Legacy.
Wasn't aware of it. I am a completionist and explore everywhere I can. Is it easy to miss?

He talks a lot about the Grey wardens, the darkspawn and the old gods. He also gets some unique scenes. I for one had to bring Aveline because I was an warrior short.

It is very easy to miss. He spawns in the arena like structure near the beginning (the one where you fight the first bronto). However, you can only unlock him from within the hideout - meaning you have to backtrack quite a bit. Also, you do not get any quest or log entry. The only clues are the Amgeforn the Foul entries you can read.
Be careful when fighting him, he is a real pain in the rear.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm only about 30 minutes in as I noticed it was 130am so I should be right around that point.
. I'll check that out later tonight.

I try not to bring characters based on their abilities, but rather what they contribute to the quest. Playing on normal I never had to worry about lacking a healer for example since I never needed healing. But yes, Anders contributes much to the DLC. I don't like him much either and have never romanced him because of his split personality/whininess. I've done the DLC with LI Isabela as well but I just don't feel she belongs in it. Grey Wardens and Corypheus' backstory give Anders cut-scenes/banter. I also like the sibling returning with the same team used when the sibling last showed up; the journey into the Deep Roads with Hawke, Anders, and Varric.

I strongly advise you to get the DLC. I prefer Legacy because the story ties in better with DA2, but MotA has some unusually pretty scenery, for a change, and a possible implication in DA:I. The great thing about them is that it's possible to bring along companions for story reasons that would normally equal party death and survive, if only just. I had a lot of fun with Isabela, Bethany and Varric doing Legacy. Don't worry if you don't have a healer much, either, because there are mad health potions all over. I would suggest sibling and LI for both.

I think I may hold off on MotA and Prince till my second playthru as I started Legacy just before the point of no return in Act 3 and don't want to muddy the waters by adding 2 NPCs on the eve of the climax. DAI implications don't mean anything as we will be customizing our Thedas in The Keep, not by importing save games.

Does this apply to all consoles/PC? I've heard this but wasn't sure its effects. I ask because I recently made a character in DA:O but didn't want to have to replay DA2 again with that import to import it into DA:I.
What I wonder about The Keep is how it will keep track of the little things. Mass Effect had a save file replacement system for people jumping into ME2 and ME3 without an import. Most were disappointed I hear. Even worse, Bioware has been much lazier with little and even big things (ex: Leliana dying) in DA than the Mass Effect series where every decision down to punching reporters was imported from actual save files. I imagine The Keep won't do such.

Just finished my first game.
Ladyhawke 2h Reaver/Templar
Didn't help Anders, I didn't like the sound of his nonsense. Executed him for his terrorism.
Sided with the mages, had to kill Fenris. Meredith was a power mad tyrant and she had to go. Didn't see Orsino's abomination coming, but really I should have.
Left with Isabela, too bad there wasn't a brief cutscene with Hawke and Isabela at the helm of the ship.
Was fun, I'll do a rogue run next.
