Didn't DA:I start by saying "only Human" until some time later they saw just how stupid that was?

more they had the time to do it, so they know human only was stupid form the start.

Hopefully human will be the only race option, just like the original trilogy.

I agree.

Wasn't it originally going to be just only human until Bioware got the extra time to include the other races?

Captain Obvious.....Of course HUMAN protagonist CONFIRMED.    how many games dont have a human protagonist (AT ALL...not a single one)?

The pic of terran hero(s) does not shed any light on whether i will be able to play as my beloved Asari....or not.

so...nothing to see here....move along.

Even if human would be only option I wouldn't judge it until I saw some hints about story.

Not every main hero (f.e. top secret Alliance Corsair) can be both human and alien.

Well I never really expected them to give us the choice of other species. Not that it would be so hard to do but because some stories can only work if you limit it to have a human(or any single species) as your base. And really while we all would have loved to play through as other species most people would still choose only a single species and play the game without trying out the other ones. Does this suck a bit? Sure? Is it a reason to start panicking/raging/crying? No. There is absolutely no need to over-react to something we all knew was going to be the case anyway.

I can just see it now. Playable races and then...race-gated romances. I choose human (female) and am race-gated to romancing humans and asari, I doubt drell will be included. An asari can romance everyone. And quarians will probably be gated to quarians and turians. Since i'll stick with a human I will be very disappointed if I don't get my turian romance (every turian male in the galaxy owes Garrus a debt of gratitude for every human lady who wants to throw their panties at them). If we do get a turian romance for our human protagonist it will probably be made deliberately awkward and unsatisfying but much better if you play those other human-like ladies (asari and quarians). Race-gating most likely will happen and all after going through the trilogy being so open minded I hope it does not.

I don't care about playing as other species, so I'm quite fine with just human.

Didn't they state a year ago that the Player Character was going to be human? This is nothing new.

Human only? Did they confirm we won't play any other species?

I would prefer that over what we got with ME2 and ME3.

Having all species sexually compatible just for the sake of fan service was obnoxious. The Asari's whole niche is the fact that they are compatible with all species.

But then ME2 comes along and it's like "Oh yeah Tali can have vaginal intercourse with a dirty human and not drop dead just so long as she pumps herself full of antibiotics ahead of time." Turians and Drell.....it's ridiculous. The last thing we need is the option to get plowed by a Krogan (you know there's a whole bunch of skeezers out there that'd go for it)

I do not want to sound negative towards those desiring playable races (I have already seen one poster stating it should be limited to fan favorites...so that is already sounding exclusionary to other fan's desires) and I don't want step on anyone's toes here

But i'm curious if all this desire and emphasis being expressed by fans, here and elsewhere (I have seen it a lot now...fans THREATENING to not buy the new ME game over not being able to play other races, especially their favorites), to have playable races, more exploration, and combat is a good indication that there is a desire for the new ME to be an mmorpg or just a stand alone game that is not import/carryover.

I'll just add my voice to those wanting to have a human protagonist that is imported across multiple games growing from her experiences. A protagonist I can personally identify and grow with having a challenging and intimate experience with a futuristic "what if?" setting.

Well, they had Tali and other quarians getting pumped by turians. Now think about it. A turian has similar protein configuration to quarians, easy bacterial/viral cell to cell recognition. Wouldn't that mean easily transmittable diseases from turians to quarians, higher fatality rate. Quarians are more likely to get ill from sexual contact from a "dirty" turian than a "dirty" human whose amino acids would be unrecognizable.  BTW the way you wrote it looks like you hate humans...not all humans are dirty.

Also remember the codex states quarians are the most physically similar to humans, so no human and turian romance...then no quarian and turian romance.

Edit: The cross-species relationships for me were never about physical attraction, but more an emotional bond from shared life and death experiences. If it is based on physical attraction than each species (minus the asari for obvious reasons) should be gated to their own species.

I don't really care. I only hope that, if they do decide to do multiple playable species (SPECIES, PEOPLE. You've been playing multiple races since ME1), they won't do them halfassed. Halfassed meaning using the same lines with a different sound effect for different species, NPC's not acknowledging your species, the same skills and classes on different species etc.

This is one the problem right here with DA regardless of who or what you play as

I prefer ME remain more character focused rather than story focused. Too me the original trilogy will always be Shepards journey and I rather not sacrifice that for the sake of cosmetic changes and afew different lines sprinkled after such ex. "Your a turian, you understand..."

So I'm all for another Human protagonist since I'd be playing one anyway

Turians and Quarians are both dextros. They share something in common. Idc if humans can't bang Turians or Quarians.

I hate humans? Play the game again my man. It's a line in the game. Said by a Quarian. Humans are stereotyped as dirty. Though, I don't find it to be negative in any way. Quarians are all about sterile environments and what not.

I couldn't care less about the physical aspects. The fact of the matter is that the odds of every alien species having sex organs  that are compatible to every other species.....well, the odds are astronomical. Impossible even.

I wouldn't get too upset.  The next Mass Effect is still years away, which leaves plenty of time to add multiple races to the game.  Humans are always the most widely-used in terms of races in any game that offers the option.  It'd only make sense that they would make the player models for that first.  They did something similar in Dragon Age Inquisition by designing the Human Male Inquisitor first -- it too was the most widely used race and gender.  Regardless, only time will tell, so don't lose hope.

I would prefer it if aliens weren't playable.

I can only look with bafflement at those who think it is a good idea. And even more so to those who think humans are "boring". Obviously those people and I have completely different ideas of what constitutes "boring" in a science fiction setting.

Not that I would care all that much if they ended up being playable. I would just let out a frustrated sigh at BioWare and move on.

I agree with you there. Interesting tidbit: right now your cerebrospinal fluid is producing a huge quantity of dextro amino acids. :D

A human protagonist (option) confirmed for a BioWare game? Next you'll tell me that the sky is blue.

All I can say is way to put words in Bioware's mouth, just for the sake of spreading negativity and lies. Great.

This is why I felt multiple species would be hard to implement decently. Either that or a lame silent protagonist. I'm fine with keeping it human.

Well the only truly lame protagonist is a poorly written one, regardless if it is voiced or not.
