The stuff about levels changing depending on decisions sounds pretty cool.

"The second was the whole "levolution" concept, the idea of a level changing over time. In Battlefield DICE uses that for destruction, but I was like... what if we put a spin on that and make it construction? What if you and your party could have an influence that spread over these big levels, and you could see them change and evolve over time because of your influence and your decisions, the actions of the Inquisition."

Really great interview overall.

Thank you for the comment, Allan. We'll see when/if there's a confirmation. But it sounds like you're saying it IS possible, just buggy.

I framed that as one of the challenges of using an ability like that via tactics.  Unfortunately I work less directly with the combat team at the moment so I don't know what the status is on whether or not something like that is working.

(Doing a lot of Gen3 system checks and doing things to help improve workflows for other QA members).

I'd laugh way to hard and probably have to restart if my Inquisitor rogue rolled off a cliff during battle.

"My goal with Inquisition is to have stuff that people don't find. I actually sent out a little demand: every single level must have at least one cave no one ever tells me to go in. No quests, no pointers, nothing. I don't care where you put it: I don't want to know where it is! Obviously, the team took that to heart and went even further."

I love this, I don't need a quest for every-little-thing and part of the fun of exploring in rpgs is finding things off the beaten path, especially cool thing sthat are hidden away with 0 help telling you it's there or a giant map icon telling you where to go to find it.

Would you have been happy if they had just reskined Origins with FB3 and planned to release that instead?

This is my favourite interview with Mike Laidlaw I've read. His passion for his job really shines through.

I wonder if there will be quests in these secret places. I know Laidlaw said he doesn't want quests to lead people to said places, but, he didn't say anything about quests and people that give them being inside of them.

I'm hoping for lost lore books, long forgotten grave stones, dead bodies etc... things that have nothing to do with the rest of the world

that would be awesome, yes. what i meant though is it feels like the game series has drifted away from what made origins great. no massive cliches, no goofy getups (excepting mage robes, but hey, that was a joke in and of itself) a detailed storyline that left you with a thousand unanswered questions and a kickass faction you got to be a part of. and all of it was centered around an RPG narrative. things weren't flashy and fast paces. there was a deliberate feel to everything someone did. no crappy button mashing or limitations of combo's. it's hard to put into words, but it just doesn't FEEL like it is going to live up to what DA:O's created

Dude, the entire combat classes where total cliches. The story was as cliche as you could get.

I loved DA: O, but let's not pretend it tread any new ground. Bioware's strength is not combat (DA:O's combat is lifted from Final Fantasy XII anyway), or story, it's worldbuilding, lore. That will still shine in DA I.

We go to locations in the comics we haven't yet visited in the games - and, cool, that's a little early art exploration!

Interesting, it seems we might visit some of the locations of the comics then perhaps.
