Mind you, if the Warden does or doesn't allow Avernus to continue with the research. Gaider did say, it was supposed to be 30 AFTER getting tainted, so if 30, would be 60 by the calling. Also, he didn't like the limit, thereby Avernus research is part of the play (most likely) to rid age limits.

Gaider's backpeddled on that a bit. 30's the max, could be as little as five. Prime factors are will power and exposure to darkspawn.
Also, ancient darkspawn like cory who can make sth similar to archdemon song, speed the taint even further to a point where wardens may become similar to darkspawn in a matter of minutes.Gaider's backpeddled on that a bit. 30's the max, could be as little as five. Uhm, no?
The architect managed some magical means of doing that, but there's no evidence that something like Cory could speed up the process anywhere close to that degree. He might shift it closer to the five year mark, but minutes? That's ridiculous.
What was actually said in regards to exposure to darkspawn was that wardens who've served during blights tend to have less time than wardens who serve between them.
Loghain was a warden for the tail end of a blight. I'd imagine that Alistair, who served throughout it, would be more affected and closer to his calling than Loghain is.
Agreed there, yes, blights would, and am aware that strength of will would be necessary. Doesn't it take a strong will anyways to even survive or no?
I don't think we've gotten, or will get, for that matter, a concrete explanation for why some survive the joining and others don't.

Doing a play through right now and plan to keep loghain alive. Planning to put Alistair and anora as joint rulers so I might as well keep him around to see what happens with him in inquisition.
Did this recently, it's interesting. I had never done it.
Just need to make sure Alistair is hardened of course.
(And for DAI it's all in the Keep anyway isn't it)
He and Rowan both knew that Katriel had turned against the Orlesians, yet Loghain decided that Maric needed to kill her for her part in helping Orlais originally (the battle of West Hill, which nearly decimated the army, was due in part to Katriel). At the time, Maric was emotionally frantic trying to take in the news that she was originally an Orlesian spy, and ended up running her through in vengeance. And Loghain seems to think that was justice and doesn't feel any guilt over the deed.
I hated that scene... I just wanted someone to jump in and be like 'Wake up! This isn't justice, it's murder!' but no...
Regarding Ostagar, the tactics employed really weren't reflective of a master strategist; line up and charge and hope a simple flank will kill the whole horde. They could of set up traps, trenches, palisades or whatever and the main army shouldn't of moved at all. They should of just set up in a shield wall or a phalanx if they had the intellectual capacity to use pikes or spears and worn the horde down while harrying the the horde from the side and back using archers and cavalry or something. Perhaps even archer cavalry.
Ugh, rant over, on topic though, a cameo from Loghain if he's alive would be cool. Be nice to see what he thinks of Orlais now after spending so much time there as a warden.
They had walls on both sides, a rampart far above them with archers, a tower with a good vantage point for shots from the side, and a whole line of archers.
They were in a bottleneck. The point of the plan was to draw them in where it is easier to replace fallen men, harder for the darkspawn to maneuver, and once the darkspawn were committed, flank them with overwhelming force.
It's actually a very sound strategy. It fails because of several reasons. The tower falls so the beacon is lit very late, Cailan fired only a single volley before leading a charge out of the bottleneck and gets himself, and his men surrounded, and the horde was so large that even after the beacon is lit, the horde is still pouring out of the wilds.
Given these events, I know that if I was the general in charge I would consider the battle lost and call for a tactical retreat myself.
I STAND BY LOGHAIN ! WE'VE NO HOPE OF VICTORY OTHERWISE! AAHHAHHAHAAH
