I think what they're doing is beating around the bush about the fact that the Divine, Leliana's mentor and possibly the most important person in the world to her after a romanced Warden, dies at the start of the game and that's the major factor in Leliana's changing personality.

Rush to speculation, I guess? We don't have enough info for that.

 

Reminds me how even if there's no official statement or even a dead body shown that Wikia's rush to label a character dead if they think a character is dead based upon their own speculation and opinion. Try to argue that will get you banned though, so yeah... Some people, especially those that have power to abuse, REALLY value their opinion over fact or waiting for actual evidence to come out to support one way or another.

People rarely stay the same over a 10 year period?  The hell?  I strongly beg to differ with that line.  Especially with a character like Leliana, who does a complete 180 in her personality.  She goes from completely likeable to a monstrous b**** over the course of two games. 

 

Do you know how much can happen in a 10 year span; how much bad can happen? It's obvious by interviews on her that the last 10 years haven't been the kindest to her, and, we will most likely find out why over the course of the game.

Her character arc seems justified to me.     The Leliana we knew back then was much younger.   She'd already been jolted by Marjolaine's betrayal but she still tried to see the good in people.   Subsequent events have made it that much harder for her to do so.    If the Divine has been killed and there seems a strong possibility that she has, it would impact on her greatly bearing in mind how much she probably feels she owes her and that they were not just colleagues but friends.   The form of torture adopted by the Venetori is excrutiating - it was the favourite form of torture adopted by Topcliffe during Elizabethan times and he was a sadistic bastard.   So I think it might well have had an effect on her.   Bear in mind that the Andrastrian faith does not believe in "Love your enemies, pray for your persecutors."

 

I will be interested to see how her relationship with the Maker has changed, if at all.    In DAO she did not believe he had abandoned the world but was ever present in it; may be recent events will have altered that view.

Leliana's character arc has always been a bit confusing to me.  Especially with the case of hardened Leliana.  It seems like she's given up being a religious fanatic in DA:O then comes DA2 she's working directly under the Divine...  It just seems a bit off somehow.  

 

 

In DA2 I think they tried to account for both the hardened and unhardened paths with where Leliana ends up. She is playing a secular role with the Chantry, reflecting her piety, while at the same time she is the 'left hand' of the Divine and something of a ruthless agent. That element ties in more with her bard past.

 

I thought it worked and regardless of whether she ends up hardened or unhardened in DA:O, her character arc in DA2 feels like a natural progression. After all on the hardened path Leliana does not abandon her religious faith, she just embraces her past life of as a bard and stops feeling ashamed or conflicted about it.

Well I am not really fond of anti-mage type of people. Dragon Age 2 it seemed that mages were all painted as blood mages and considered evil.

 

So if she is going to continue ranting about how mages are evil. I rather she just leave. I actually told Fenris that I didn't need him on one of my playthroughs but I had to listen to Anders and his Templar conspiracies. Which were just as annoying.
