"It's an engine built for jet fighters having dogfights over tanks!"...but you can't make a flying dragon mount.

it's not that they can't do it but more that they don't want to do it.

Pretty much this, at this time it doesn't fit in the story. They said it and mounted combat they don't want to just throw in because it'll feel tacky, they want a story reason for it.

Flying mounts doesn't mean no flying a dragon. Just not regularly.

I'm glad, I don't want a flying mount. Even though this game is supposed to be big, I don't plan on really using a mount at all. Having my party disappear and then reappear out of thin air just seems really weird to me.

I doubt I'll use a mount until I've exhausted all the banter points, then I will

Just because the Devs don't WANT to add something doesn't mean that they CANT add it.
A flying mechanic really has no place in the type of game they're designing, having a pet dragon that stays around the Skyhold and interacts with the Inquisitor/Companions, similar to Dog in DA:O, (maybe even flying down during combat and spewing fire as an ability) is something i think is more realistic to see in the game.

I really hope that Tame A Dragon thing is just BS, DA dragons shouldn't be tamable, they're territorial apex predators... sure you can do what that one cult did and raise the hatchlings to not be aggressive towards you(doesn't mean they'll let you ride them) but i doubt the Inquisitor will have the time to do that what with the world falling apart.

Just because you can make something to fly you around doesn't mean it's good for the game. It'd be tons of people trying to land on crap they can't actually land on, and having to design areas to be flown over instead of run through.

Can't is not synonymous with won't.

The ability to ride dragons wouldn't really fit within Dragon Age.
Now if someone wanted to make a Dragonriders of Pern game with the Frostbite 3 engine - that would be just awesome!

Yes lets sacrifice more important stuff so the devs cant focus on adding pointless things like flying mounts. /sarcasm
Think about it. Do you even realize to what tremendous amounts they would have to change the game world with flying mounts in it? How pointless it would make exploring and travel?

Being able to fly would double the work of making levels because they'd actually have to make it viewable and traversable from the sky as well as the ground.
When your characters are stuck on the ground, you don't have to fill in every texture because it'll never be viewable from certain angles (i.e. above). Pretty easy to see if you've ever used the toolset for DAO, or had the game bug out on you in such a way that you could deviate from the fixed map. There are giant holes everywhere, Mountains only have one face, etc. but you never notice them in game because your perspective is fixed.
And those are just the technical aspects. The world stops being dangerous (and feels much smaller) if you can just fly over all enemies and land do a quest then fly away to the next one.

Flying mounts really is the last thing I'd want in the game. It makes no sense to me at all, because a huge part of the game is exploring and interacting with the world. Flying around on a dragon pretty much eliminates all that.

Not to mention that if we could fly around on a dragon, everyone would understandably wonder why we couldn't ride it into battle. And that leads to the possibility of the Inquisitor winning any fight out of doors by sitting up on a ledge somewhere watching their mount spit fireballs at everyone below while Varric and Sera rain arrows down on them and Iron Bull takes a nap.
Balancing combat around a flying monster around a tame dragon sounds impossible outside of a game specifically built to show that off.

But it doesn't mean there aren't any other "dragon mechanics". The Inquisitor wears a dragon-jaws-horn. You know like the horn to summon a dragon in DA: O. But that's my speculation. I've just noticed him wearing that in the trailer from E3 and also on the pic from yesterday announcing combat videos.

Like in WoW, must people simply use the mount to, let's say, get to a ruin. They simply
Ignore the enemies, get off the mount, get the item and finish the quest, thus ignoring the stuff thats going on on the ground. That's why flying mounts wont be usable for some time in the next x-pac.

It's not that they can't. It that they won't. Lore wise they can't do it being one way died off and the other it way too violent to be ridden.
