From an IGN article just posted at

http://www.ign.com/a...x-one-ea-access

Today, EA revealed EA Access, an Xbox One-exclusive subscription service that grants players access to EA's so-called Vault.

Subscribing to EA Access will cost $4.99 a month (or $29.99 a year), and since the program is technically in beta, only four games will initially be available: FIFA 14,Madden NFL 25Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4, "with more titles being added soon."

Additionally, EA Access will also net subscribers 10 percent discounts on all EA digital content, which includes full games and DLC, as well as access to trials of new EA games nearly a week before they come out (with saves that copy over to the final game, should you choose to purchase it later). Games that will be eligible for early access and save copy-over are Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA Live 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Memberships can be purchased on Xbox Live, and will also be available at retail stores like GameStop and online destinations like Amazon. The subscription service will launch "soon," according to EA, and will be available in North America and Europe.

We'll have more on EA Access as soon as it launches.

LOL. I don't know. Still prefer hard copies, but that 10% is tempting.

EA has just announced an Xbox One-exclusive subscription service. For $4.99 a month or $30 a year, users get free access to select existing games and trials for upcoming games as early as a week before release.

The best thing is DA:I has been mentioned as one of the trials to be available prior to release:

EA Access is a totally new way for you to play more of the games you love, for less. Here’s a rundown of the additional benefits EA Access members will get:

  • Awesome Value– Besides the great games in The Vault, EA Access members will save 10% on purchases of EA digital content for Xbox One offered through the Xbox Games Store. From full digital-download titles like the upcoming Dragon Age™ Inquisition or NHL®15, to additional membership services such as Battlefield 4 Premium or even FIFA Ultimate Team points, it’s all 10% off for members.*
  • Play First – Membership in EA Access lets you experience trials of new EA games up to five days before the release date.*  It starts with Madden NFL 15NHL 15FIFA 15, NBA LIVE 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, but more are on the way. If you decide to buy the game, your progress will carry over so you can pick up right where you left off.

So Xbox One owners who choose to subscribe get to experience the game 5-7 days before launch. Groovy.

More details here.

EDIT: Allan has merged the two topics on this, mine and the OP's.

As much as I dislike this concept, I'll probably join it for the early DAI trial.

Yeah, if you were going to buy digital anyway, then 10% off $60 would save you $6, and it only costs $5 to do a single month of EA access...so in that case you'd definitely want to do it.

I don't like buying digital because you don't really own the game. You're "buying the license" to play it. But a lot of PC people do it so it can't be all bad. I usually use digital for "bargain bin" purchases.

Why would EA offer this exclusively on Xbone when they're supposedly trying to make Origin a thing that people don't hate???

Oh well.  I can wait the week.  This is going to suck for people who want to avoid spoilers, though.

I am going to buy an xbox one some time this fall and have preordered DAI for that system.  I can't see me subscribing to something like this however.

I'm holding off on my purchase anyway. I'm letting my cousin be the guinea pig and getting DA:I first. So it's really not an issue. Spoilers aren't a problem if you don't go looking for them. Just avoid BSN and other gaming sites.

I'm seriously tempted to do it for a month, just to play DAI a few days early... I don't know if my progress will be saved when I switch to my hard copy of the game which I will get at the midnight release, but I honestly don't care. In 5 days I could probably finish the game once, at least.

Hmmm. *ponders*

So in other words, the game is finished but gets delayed an extra week so that they can charge people some additional money.  EA that is, I doubt Bioware sees any of it.

Wow, interesting.

That presumably means people will be playing an Xbone trial of DA:I up to five days before it releases in stores and online.

Those were my exact feelings.

Although I think it'll be a small portion like the DA2 demo and not the whole game, but I'll just play it 30 times and hopefully it'll include the CC.

More strides towards declaring games a service rather than a product. I hate to declare slippery slope, but this doesn't seem very far uphill from the concepts Microsoft first launched with XB1 before backpedaling to become a PS3.75.

Well not everybody. I'm a Xbone user and I'll be waiting for at least a week after the official release.

Great. So there will be people who make it their goal to finish the game in 7 days so that they don't have to pay full price for it, and then go spoiling the story for everyone else.

I think the way Xbox one works (and ps4 for that matter) is that the hard copy and digital copy are the same...either way it gets put onto your hard drive, so it should just carry over, but I'm not 100% sure.

The game was delayed by six weeks, not one.

Also, the reason for the delay was polishing and bug-fixing.

Also, this would've been in the planning stages long before the decision to delay DA:I.

I could seriously stay happy for days with just CC! I'll pay EA their fee if they let me mess around with it.
