In case anyone is wondering, this doesn't mean the end of traditional demos, as per this article:

The program does not change EA's current plans for demo/beta access to games. An EA representative says, "Traditional demos and betas will still exist."

To me this is strange marketing. Sure, the fans on XBOXone will be happy, but at the same time there will be many fans on PC, PSP3, PSP4 or XBOX360 that will be seriously upset.

This also means that the forums will be flooded with spoilers by the time the non-XBOXOne owners (and especially when the non-XBOXOne europeans) get the game.

If someone else wants another way to hand over their cash to EA on a regular basis they are welcome to do so.

Personally the fact they own or rather bought developers or franchises that I like is the only reason I tolerate them. The cost of the odd game will have to be enough for both of us.

Am I the only one that thinks this is more about paying for early access and less about "paid demos?"

The EA release says save games will carry over. That sounds like a full game, early experience, to me anyway.

You would be correct.

People here seem to be confusing trials with demos, when the two aren't exactly the same thing. A trial is essentially a locked version of the full game, where any progress made is fully registered and can be used in the full game. Demos don't exactly work that way.

Paid demos.  lul.

Several people in this thread are saying they will be doing exactly that though.  And you can bet EA want that.   Ca-ching.

I have to agree with this.

While it probably isn't the *point* of the whole thing, it's the only reason I'll be getting it for a month.  Like Bekkael said, I pay $5 for a coffee... I'm totally fine with paying $5 for a few days of fun CC and seeing what class option I prefer.

That was just a general statement. In DA:I's case, we probably won't be getting a demo.

As has been remarked earlier in this thread, publishers no longer bother with public demos for AAA titles these days.

Well Bioware did in the last two games they made.

But you literally just posted that this is not the end for tradititonal demos... wut

Lately (as in the past two years), the practice has been declining. Now most publishers either release demos AFTER a game's launch (see: Thief), or never release a demo at all. The closest thing you will get to a public demo is a limited beta access if you're lucky.

You will still see public demos for some games, like Madden and NBA, but unlikely for the higher-caliber ones like Battlefield, DA, etc.

Yes, "deceived by naysayers".... You just reinforced that statement by insinuating that this program means "having to pay for demos" which is a total falsehood.

First, and this isn't directed at you, it really doesn't matter if this is a trial or a demo because the point remains the same. The differences are minor.

With a trial, you're still playing a portion of the game. When it's over, you can decide to pay full price and own it, or pass it up.

With a demo, you're playing a portion of the game. When it's over, you can decide to buy it or pass it up.

Whether you can import it into the main game or not means nothing to the opinion I have drawn.

As for your reply: Is this "demo" going to eventually be available to everyone for free? If so, then never mind.

If not, how would one gain access to it? You have to purchase a service where one of the features is early access. To say you have to pay money for it isn't deceiving because if you don't pay money, you don't get early access. Jeez.

As I said, I don't really care what others do. If they want to do this, then great. I won't lose any sleep and it won't change my ultimate experience. I can be of the opinion that having to start paying to be able to play games before release date is a road I don't want to see traveled. This isn't something I will pay for. However, I have no problem with someone who will.

Considering that the only EA games I purchase are Bioware titles, they would need to offer a 50% - 75% discount to make the $30 annual sub worth the money. That aside, I personally prefer to own physical copies of my games, I suppose I'm just old like that.

You're not alone on the physical front. I get my games physical still. A friend of mine teased me about it once;she and I were gonna play Titanfall but she had it digitally and I had it physically. I had to go get the disc to put in the tray and she was chuckling while she just loaded it up and waited patiently.

This is a good deal if you play a lot of EA games and don't mind digital content.

Other than Bioware titles I don't really play too many of EA's games however, and usually prefer to have physical copies of the games I purchase.

There's just something comforting about having the physical game.

I prefer my books in physical form as well.  Keepin' it old school :P

Completely agree. I have a Kindle and I still buy physical books.

I also miss the thick booklets that used to come with games. Ahh, memories.

So this is more or less the pass EA had for its sports games, except it now includes other genres and it locked to Xbox. I haven't bought a EA sport title in a long time, but I remember three or four years ago they had this exact same deal, and was sports titles only -- with no platform restriction. It was somewhat popular at first, and then all the YouTube videos began getting posted how buggy and broken whatever game they had early access to was, and then EA Sports is like we aren't patching it until it is released, sorry please understand etc. Then it was just known as "pay to bug test this game", and it created a lot of distrust and dislike on many popular sports games forums.

Hope this doesn't turn into pay to test Dragon Age for the sake of cash from the Xbox sugardaddies.

Steam early access in a nutshell. Seriously though, devs should these people for bug testing there game for them, essentially working as paying QA's.

I'm very excited and I'll admit I'm petty enough to be even more happy since my preferred method of gaming is always knocked. No matter what, Sony could've had this but turned it down in order to charge their customers $5 for 4 hours of gameplay on PS2 games.

Happy Gaming :)

I wonder if Origin will give DAI five day early access  sense it is a ea platform ?

I know I know, no they will not but I had to ask.

Edit: What about spoilers with five day early access people will start streaming on twitch and putting lets play on youtube.

After reading about this i honestly don't think its fair to let xbox one players have early access. I think if there is to be a demo or trial of any kind then it should be made available to all players on all platforms the game is to be released on. After all it is one of the most sought after games of late 2014. I mean what's stopping the early access players from playing what's available and posting it everywhere on the internet essentially spoiling it for everyone else who is still waiting for release day. However if the trial/demo was made available to everyone that wouldn't matter then as everyone has had a chance to play the same content and noone is left out.

I don't know how many people agree with me and i'm guessing those who can and will access this early content probably don't but i don't care, I just dont think one platform should have exclusive rights when it comes to a game that is probably going to be a big seller for a big company like EA.

That's pretty much how microsoft think. 'We should screw over everyone without an Xbone because this is the bestest buisiness strategy.'

We just learned that Sony doesn't want this service on their system anyway. They believe it has no value and thus turned it down.

That needs to be put in the OP in my opinion. Most people either just read the title or at best the OP before posting their opinions.

I'm not a fan of this practice, but selfishly, I'll still be doing it to get a small morsel of DAI as soon as I can.

Hopefully, forum goers are polite enough to keep spoilers either in their own threads or within spoiler tags.  I don't plan on posting anywhere outside of that and possibly Twitching it.  But yeah, it's definitely going to force people into blackouts a little earlier than they were hoping for.
