Let me pose a question;had Sony accepted EA Access on the PS4, would this still be a contentious problem for some of you?

Doesn't PC already have insane deals that consoles can't compete with(from GOG, Steam, Origin I'm assuming)? So now consoles(or rather, one of them) get an alternative way to pay for games and some folks are getting uppity?

I find it odd. I'm an X1 Preview user so I have access to the Beta for EA Access. I haven't used it(by that I mean pay for a sub), so it has no effect on me. I can still get my games same as always. The people I feel for are those on PS4 and PC that would use it but can't;those that openly admit they won't use it are getting up in arms about its very existence and I'm trying to understand why.

When people stop bitching about DRM, then there'll be a version of EA Access for the PC.  That or when the Pirate Bay shuts down for good.... whichever comes first.

I have no problems with the service itself. If you play a lot of EA games, it's a decent deal. I am opposed to any instance of charging money to gain early access to demos, or "trials" (for those who keep insisting that it makes a difference).

If you were paying for early access to something that is going to be available to everyone eventually, then that is different. (In my opinion, anyway. I am not speaking for anyone but myself here) I just really don't want to have to start paying in order to play a demo. /shrug

Uh consoles get used games. We don't. And our alternate way of paying for games is available to console people to.

I probably wouldn't use it but **** I don't even have the option. That's what annoys me.

-_-

Cause it's not like the damn game is going to require Origin anyway...oh wait.

I bet sony will have a similar "partnership" with activision, or ubisoft. Just like everyone followed suit when EA invented the Online Pass thing.

And yeah, I don't like any of these "premium" membership things that EA does (first battlefield, now EA Access, the sims 4 later....)

Sony has traditionally been 'partners' with Ubisoft and Microsoft with EA. It's not a coincidence that Assassin's Creed has exclusive PlayStation content and such.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with that ,though. For this particular deal, Sony just didn't want it on their system. There wasn't much EA could say or do about that.

Regarding EA and Microsoft, it's not so simple, if you remember last gen, PS3 was the platform privileged to get timed exclusive DLCs for Battlefield 3 (PS3 getting all or a few of them 2 weeks in advance), same with Dead Space 2 and its DLC or even Dante's Inferno. In my opinion, EA was trying to bring balance between the two platforms, back in the days Xbox was the leading platform before the PS3 caught up. Today is more or less the opposite, Xbox is the platform who has to do the catching up, certainly Microsoft is also paying well EA, but EA has already made the last BF:Hardline beta exclusive on PS4 and I'm sure more things like this will come to PS4.

it could be that, or it's something as simple as desperation from the companies itself. Microsoft didn't need early DLC because it was leading the charge so easily. I still suspect this is mostly politics regarding Playstation Now over anything else though.

Hmm, I wonder if Orgin would allow Early Access for DAI for PC players. I normally play PC, but am probably going to get DAI for console since I'm not planning to update my graphics card right now.

Origin already occasionally offers free games and they have what they call "Game Time"--sounds similar to the EA Access subscription.

Here's a description of the service

"Origin Game Time is your chance to play our latest games for free. Far more than a demo - Origin Game Time gives you full access to the entire gameplay experience at no cost.  Your in-game progress during this time is saved, and you can pick up right where you left off if you choose to purchase the game.

Your Origin Game Time clock begins when you first launch the game after it’s been fully downloaded and installed. Once started, the clock will continue to run whether you’re in the game or taking a break.

Make sure to keep an eye on the Origin Facebook and Twitter pages to be the first to hear about future Origin Game Time offerings.

Find more information on Origin Game Time straight from the source, and if you're having trouble accessing Origin Game Time, feel free to contact us to here on EA Help to figure out your issue."

So PC players may be able to trial the game as well possibly, although I don't know if this wouldn't be available until the official release date.

Ok. I went with access simply because I don't want to drop $50 on FIFA14 when FIFA15 is around the corner. Maybe a new Fight Night will come out. Bonus, I get to play DA:I 5 days early I guess.

I got EA access. For $30 I should easily recoup that in digital downloads. Plus, when I want to mindlessly waste some time waiting for X game to drop, I can see messing around with FIFA or BF or whatever else.

And DAI early access: absolutely priceless, IMO. I'd pay a lot more simply for that.

Just an update:

Cameron Lee sad in the IGN demo earlier that DA:I's EA Access trial will be "early access to a part of the game, which we'll talk about at a later point."

The emphasis seemed to be on "part of the game" as in a gameplay mode, not "part" as in "section".

Thats interpretation. It could mean anything. They could make everyone laugh at how silly expectations were and give Access members the CC five days early. Who knows.

Aye, but not the whole thing. Point being, people don't have it just yet.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the EA Access trial will include a part of the game that they haven't talked about yet. That is the simplest reading of Cameron's comment.

They've already talked about a lot of things, including a character creator - and making EA Access a demo of a character creator isn't awfully exciting to your average player, I would suspect.

I own a PS4 and even if I have a Xbone I wouldn't purchase this. I don't mind paying a month fee for unlimited access to games however I would prefer for it to be like a platform wide services rather than a single publishing house thing. That is what Sony is trying to do and frankly I do support their view on this matter because boy if EA do this then Activision will do the same, then Ubisoft and so on...how many publisher should we pay? IMO Microsoft is doing a mistake on this level. It should have been a platform service that include all publisher willing to participate that let you play with all released games for a monthly fee. Instead now we will have each single publisher with its own offer..that would be troublesome.

Still waiting for a Netflix of gaming. Pay a month fee and then play as much as you can.

I assume it'll be inline with the DA2 demo - the first little chunk of the game up to a certain point... maybe just after the blast or something.  If progress carries over it's safe to assume the CC would be in there instead of them sticking you with a default.

I think this article sums up perfectly the problem with content that is exclusive (timed or otherwise) to certain platforms.

I'm just going to sign up for one month of it in November if it's the beginning of the game, because yeah, $5 to play the opening stretch first is goofy (and I don't really want a digital copy, so the discount's lost on me) but I don't buy many games at all, anyway, so screw it, I'll be goofy.

If it's something like MP early access, I'll pass. But yeah, I don't have any interest in a yearly here. EA has BioWare, and that's the biggest news of all to me as a gamer, but beyond that, it has absolutely nothing I'm into.

Jim Sterling made a video about EA Access

The short version: We should be cautiously optimistic about how EA Access will turn out, only time will tell.
