If the CC is in there it's a total no brainer for me.

I would assume it is, considering the article explicitly states your progress carries over into the full game.

I'm assuming it will just be a small portion, not the whole game.

God, I hope so, but the part about your saves carrying over makes me wonder.

Makes sense. That'll take up most of my time for 5 days then lol

So in other words, the game is finished but gets delayed an extra week so that they can charge people some additional money.  EA that is, I doubt Bioware sees any of it.

I think games generally are "finished" when the game "goes gold" which can be like 4 weeks before the actual release date.  This signifies when the game gets sent off to the presses to be actually made into discs and then packaged and shipped to stores, etc.

Technically any game could be released digitally earlier, but I guess generally publishers don't do it so they don't screw over their retail partners.  I guess in this case they're throwing their retail partners a bone though, since in the EA press release itself, it says that you can go into a gamestop and buy the subscription there.

I think the way Xbox one works (and ps4 for that matter) is that the hard copy and digital copy are the same...either way it gets put onto your hard drive, so it should just carry over, but I'm not 100% sure.

But even then we don't how this subscription thing will work. It could only be a portion of the game. In that case a one dollar discount isn't worth it. Though I do play other EA games like FIFA. It's also a principle thing. I'd rather own a game than be subscribed to a service that let's me play games.

I just took it to mean you'd pick up where it left off once you have the game in hand.

Well, yes, you do need to install whether from disc or internet....but I don't know if they would have any DRM voodoo on the save that only carries on if you buy digital. It would seem silly if it did, but I was thinking worse case scenario.

I always buy disc copies of games, I don't like digital only!

I could seriously stay happy for days with just CC! I'll pay EA their fee if they let me mess around with it.

Same! Someone in the other thread pointed out that since it lets you carry your progress through, the CC is most likely available.

Excellent point! Okay, I think I'm sold.

EDIT to add: I would blow 5 bucks on a coffee, so I think I can pay that much for gaming ecstasy! :P

Don't you already need an xbone subscription to access these kinds of features? Not really a fan of these subscriptions on top of subscriptions on top of subscriptions.

@Relhart: just to throw this out there but by the time the game hits release date - it's been done for at 'least' 2 weeks. Usually closer to a month not counting any patch work. You have console certification and shipping to deal with. That 'week' before release is generally shipping to get it to EVERYWHERE just in the US (which is a massive feet and takes a lot more time then a single day). They give it that time and then the date hits, it gets released.

All this is, is a trial version (probably the bulk of the game with a cut off point) a week ahead of time. Personally, I'm looking at this like a rental service I'll look into a year down the road. Next summer when theres a lack of games and theres more stuff in the vault (or 2 years later) throwing 10-15 bucks over the summer to have access to a buncha games I didn't get a chance to play? Sounds like a freakin' great deal to me.

@Puddikoma: no you don't, you need gold to play a game online that uses there matchmaking system network. Everything else doesn't require gold. This is ultimately a rental system. RENTAL. Granted it's older games, but its rentals none-the-less and it's something a lot of XB1 users have been asking for. EA is just the first to jump on that ship.

There is no indication as to whether an Xbox Live Gold subscription is required to use the service, so we don't know yet. I don't see why it would be, though.

This is the company that placed Netflix behind the pay wall. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it were required.

True, but they've since rectified that. Now you can use Netflix and other entertainment apps without a Gold sub.

Basically EA is offering that Demo people having been asking for, just at a price. The fact it's on XBOX One brings to mind all the 'Features' XBOX one originally had before the fans cried foul and forced them to flip the switch. So yeah, EA is still EA and Microsoft is still Microsoft. However the upside is we'll get some '1st Impressions' from people other than paid game reviewers who are often so pressed for time they HAVE to race through everything.

Honestly though, if they start releasing 'Trials' of Biowares games that allow for up to five hours of playtime before you buy them, it's ultimatly a good thing. Lord knows I'd feel better if I could try this new IP 'Shadow Realms' before I put down a lot of cash.

Cheaper than Kojima's "Ground Zeroes' demo.

I don't intend to play Inquisition on Xbox One, but I shall take out a month's subscription to play around with it a few days early. Charging for what is effectively a demo is a massive dick move, but I'm going to toss my principles out of the window on this one occasion.

So the monthly price is less than the amount you'd save if you bought the game, no?  Seems like a good deal if you've got an XBox.

Unless the EA digital store prices are higher than you get elsewhere.

Normal New Game = 59.99

With 10% Discount = 54.00

Add in monthly charge = 58.99

Unless you're buying a full price EA game almost every single month this seems like a poor deal. I imagine "select" titles that are made available are games that are 3-4+ years old and everyone already owns,no one wants to play or can probably be bought for barely more than that monthly fee. If you can sign up for a single month when a game (like DAI) is coming out and then immediately cancel it may be worth it one or two months out of the year.

Less than impressed.

Utter greed. First claiming trials are bad for business and then having trials anyway for a subscription fee, typically EA.

So buy 1 month for $5 in November, save $7 on preordered deluxe edition or $6 on normal, play a week early and import the save. If you have a brobox.
