Honestly though, if they start releasing 'Trials' of Biowares games that allow for up to five hours of playtime before you buy them, it's ultimatly a good thing. Lord knows I'd feel better if I could try this new IP 'Shadow Realms' before I put down a lot of cash.

Cheaper than Kojima's "Ground Zeroes' demo.

You really think they would let you play 5 hours of DA:I for 5 euro's?

They will give you a 2 gig demo to play, anything more & your looking at a ground zeroes type price tag. Which was complete bullshit BTW

AKA 5 euro demo's... Leave it to EA & microsoft to charge for stuff that used to be free.

Read the article again, slowly.

You also get access to free games from EA's backlog, and a 10% discount on new titles.

If you download a game digitally in that time you're basically making the money back on the membership fee anyway.

I'm not really a fan of these types of services for games, so that coupled with the fact that it's on XB1 lets me breath a sigh of relief. Hopefully this service endeavor flops magnificently so I won't have to hear about it for too long.

I wonder if it will be possible to use the share feature on these early access games, or if they will lock it off? If possible, I will totally twitter-spam pics of the CC from the earliest possible moment.

Normal New Game = 59.99

With 10% Discount = 54.00

Add in monthly charge = 58.99

Unless you're buying a full price EA game almost every single month this seems like a poor deal. I imagine "select" titles that are made available are games that are 3-4+ years old and everyone already owns,no one wants to play or can probably be bought for barely more than that monthly fee. If you can sign up for a single month when a game (like DAI) is coming out and then immediately cancel it may be worth it one or two months out of the year.

Less than impressed.

The yearly membership is $2.50 per month effectively.  So buying a full price game every other month would do it.  Which still seems unlikely, but for a dedicated fan it's not too bad once you add the "free" games and the early access and stuff.

So you have to pay for online AND extra features to boot.

That's if the backlog games are the ones you want to play or if they put the games you want to play avalible.

the trials for new games are limited, so id imagine its time restricted like say it lets your start new games and then after 30 mins - 1 hour it will lock you out  $4.99 is a good offer for free games but its not like they are new products most will be 12 months old soon. The 10% off dlc is worth subscribing for if your planning on spending £50 on dlc say buying premium for BF5 (£39.99( and a season pass for ME4/DA:I at the same time.

With that said though i can see this kinda flopping the deals aren't that great. They'd of been better off charging $15p/m and actually giving you basic access(no dlc) to all their games new or not.

So games in the EA 'Vault' will be older (albeit still reletively new) titles? For instance, DAI won't be added to the 'Vault' when it releases?

Why would EA offer this exclusively on Xbone when they're supposedly trying to make Origin a thing that people don't hate???

Oh well.  I can wait the week.  This is going to suck for people who want to avoid spoilers, though.

I actually think Origin preorders are getting the game "early" or at least DA:I is set to unlock on my origin account the day before international release at 9 pm. But I agree that we should be getting it earliest.

I...hmm.  Now, here's my problem: I bought the Inquisitor's Edition but from everything that GameStop employees are telling me, with 1-day shipping the earliest I can plan on receiving it is November 19th - a day after the US release.  So...this actually might be something I'll participate in, especially if I can opt in for just one month (November) and opt out for the rest.  Hmm.  HMMM, I say!

EDIT - but how does that even work?  If I don't buy the game digitally, can I still transfer my progress to a physical copy of the game?  Gah.  Someone with knowledge: help me!

I'm not going to lie.  I'm going to do it.  If they allow a monthly sub (and not just an up front fee), then it's worth it for me to pay $4.99 and get a chance to play around with the CC and a few quests before the game drops.  The CC is the feature that I have the most questions about now and I enjoy it way too much, so it will be good to get the "tinkering around" out of my system so that I can jump right in when I get my actual copy of the game.  Then, if I don't like the games in their catalog at that point, I'll drop the sub and still have gotten my money's worth.  It's a win for me.

Wait, what? Everything that I've seen seems to indicate that the early access stuff are trials.

But this from the EA Access website seems to suggest otherwise:

If you’re an EA Access member, you can download upcoming EA games five days before the release date to play for a limited time. Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA LIVE 15 and Dragon Age: Inquisition are all included, with more to come. If you love it, buy it, and you can pick up right where you left off.

I'm planning on doing it, only for the month of November and just for the access to The Game. The CC is my main draw too. I could care less about the other games in the catalog or the service in general, but I'll jump through hoops solely for DAI.

Yes, that's exactly what it is. You don't get early access to the full game, just a trial. But your progress carries over into the full game should you choose to buy it later on.

@N7 Shadow 90 : they're probably taking que's from the Arcade Games MS do on the 360. You DL the full game (all be it, smaller then DAI) and can play up to a certain point. Once you hit that point it says you have to buy the game to play past. The only major difference is this is available before the game is, might be timed instead of having a direct cut off point. Either case its a 'try before you buy'. And as much as this forum is focusing on DAI trial as the apparent reason for this service - it's a rental service first and foremost. The trial stuff is simply secondary incentive.

Personally, I think they should open up the trials to everyone - though I can understand the week early 'access' to the trials being behind the services paywall. Hopefully that's the direction it goes if this service does well.

The wording of that paragraph could suggest you can download the entire game though, not just a content-limited trial.

Well this is lame.

Making people pay for a demo a week before the actual game comes out.

Please just wait for the actual game, don't encourage this behavior from EA.

Thanks guys/gals. If it is as you say, Adhin, the game will likely be out by the time that my internet's downloaded the thing anyway. :P

I was personally hoping that it was just a demo download, as I will be buying the game physically anyway, but this would be great for those planning to buy digitally!

Then there's also this from the EA Access website's FAQs:

What will the pre-release trials include? Will my progress carry over?

Each game is different, so each game’s trial will be, too. In some titles you’ll be able to play one of the game's modes for a limited time, while other times you can jump right into the full game. And since you’ll always be playing the real game, any progress you make will carry over so you can pick up where you left off on launch day.

As someone who owns all of the last gen consoles and a PS4, but not a Wii-U or Xbox One, I can't help but feel like I might end up getting shafted. The way I currently understand how this system works is that people will get a timed trial (I saw mention of 5 days on an article, but it wasn't sourced so...) of whatever games are included in the package. I have a couple of concerns with this program: the first being the fact that early access to Dragon Age Inquisition is exclusive to the Xbox One, why lock it to just that one console, why don't they use their Origin service which is available for all consoles? Everyone is going to pay the same for the game with the exception of the different editions. I also find it weird that the Xbox 360 is being excluded from this. The other thing that I am concerned about is if the Xbox One is going to get more preferential treatment with Dragon Age Inquisition over the other consoles on down the line, it now has this and DLC being exclusive to it for the 1st month going for it, what else might there be that I don't know about?

Don't get me wrong, I am super stoked for this game, I just don't want the other versions to end up being inferior to the Xbox One version, that would hardly be fair.

Could be that the trial pre-release is what was being alluded to with the whole "premiere content on Xbox One" thing.

Oh. Thanks for finding that!

It makes things a lot clearer. If the trials are different for each game, then it makes it much less likely that they'll include big chunks of DA:I in the EA Access trial. People also won't get a chance to go crazy for five days and put spoilers everywhere, which is nice.

Possibly only a few early missions, and maybe some of the multiplayer if that ends up being in the game.
