Even as an Xbox owner I'm not falling for this.

Not unless they announced a new Dead Space...That doesn't go off the ending of DS3...And make BF Hardline free. Then I might fall for it. Alas, my soul has a price.

So does mine! They have my number. EA is like the dad and I have to ask permission if BioWare can come out and play.  :P

So in other words, the game is finished but gets delayed an extra week so that they can charge people some additional money.  EA that is, I doubt Bioware sees any of it.

Erm no see, what happens is the game is finished, gone gold or whatever the term is, and sent off to be ya know, printed and then sent out across the US then the World. This takes a couple of days added to that the games are usually then released on the same day, to avoid one company or store jumping the gun and picking up the lion share of the sales unfairly. In that window EA is now offering a trial use of the game, but note how it won't count as a sale so come release day you have to go out and buy it, thus keeping the shops placated.

I guess the issue I have with this is I don't think I can pre-order a digital download version of the deluxe edition for the xbone?

Otherwise I'd be all over this to play a week earlier, since I already was gonna get the xbone version anyways.

Or is it just a free trial download?

I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this.

Will most definitely sub for a month, that early access is too tempting and its just 5 bucks.

Why does PC never get cool stuff like this, early access to DLC and such?  :crying:

Because no one is there who has a interest in acting as the PC's 'Champion' as it where and try and secure bonus content with their own cash. That's one of the downside of the PC at the moment.

I'm definitely doing this. The 10% off all EA content is worth it alone.

Hah! I guess you've never been on Steam...

Um yes....I have over 300 games on Steam (including 2 early access games which I think you are referring to), I fail to see how Steam has anything to do with my "sigh" at payed demos.

The Keep should be out earlier than release for everyone, but I don't know if the trial would let you use it.

I could honestly care less about content if the character creator is in there. I'll just play with that.

I remember the character creator we got early for DAO.  I spent days and days playing with that.  We could upload them to whatever social site we were using back then and use them as our picture.  Think I will go put one on now.  Oh wait.  Not sure they are available now.

Yeah, I'll be getting this. Play on my Xbox a few days and then switch to PC. Easy peasy.

You are a horrible person for having that avatar and you should feel bad.

For some reason I don't though.

i'd be mad. but i can see where they are coming from. excellent marketing gimick. and lets everyone else see how good the game really is going to be

(though a bit concerned, this looks like skyrim 2.0 all over again. aka, PS4 will be a buggy PoS with zero optimization and constant crashes because micro$oft paid EA to give them priority for everything)

This is another step towards the whole 'gaming as a service' idea. I don't like this development. First we stopped owning games after they legally defined game purchases as licenses, and soon we won't even 'own' licenses anymore. This is only going to take away more and more rights from gamers. It could be possible for them to remove games from your subscription as they see fit, spoonfeeding us the entertainment they think we want.

Guys, don't be deceived by the naysayers.  This is a GREAT deal, seriously. I just got the app and I can pay $30.00 and download Peggle2, FIFA, and Battlefield4 (I got early access through the Xbox preview program).  Not to mention early access to demos and discounts.

If EA does this right it could be like their own Netflix with games.

I wonder how far the trials go? Like for DAI, do we get say the first 3 missions?

The game goes gold 2-4 weeks prior to launch anyway. This has nothing to do with that.

I would imagine something like that, in addition to the Keep and CC, of course.

I imagine it might just be the CC and the prologue giving the player just enough combat and dialogue to not spoil too much and the trial will most likely leave off on a cliffhanger for marketing purposes.

Edit:

Judging from this tweet the demo could be something like this:

Aidan Scanlan ‏@aidanscanlan

Visitor in the office today was offered to play #DAI. After character creation and 10 min he stopped, "This is too good, I need to wait"

10 minutes plus the CC sounds good enough for a trial  ;)

As much as I would like to play DAI a little earlier I think I'm going to pass. I am more than a bit tired of monthly fees, it seems like everyone wants a piece of my pay check.

Yea even if I could (and I can't because I have a PS4) I would not. I would rather experience the game as a whole rather than just playing a portion of it and be cut off for a week and I am not too fond of monthly subscription. The yearly ones for PSN are enough for me.

Wait... Isn't a "trial" the same thing as a "demo"? Of which there was to be no demo?

Think of it like early access for some stream games on greenlight, you may or may not get to test a finish product.

About the only thing I can compare to.

I was thinking the same thing. The CC and the Prologue. Maybe to when you get Skyhold at best since that seems a great place to stop it to me.

Which is plenty for me because it lets me get the hours of experimenting the CC out before the game, and when game comes I can already have the faces written down for future use.

Wait... Isn't a "trial" the same thing as a "demo"? Of which there was to be no demo?

No, because with with the trial you can import your save of it into the main game. With a demo you can't.
