This gives me a bad feeling...what's next? You can only play games from EA if you are a subscriber?

Mmm. I'm getting a PS4 so it's all good. I'm just afraid of some getting into files and leaking things. That's nothing new.

The achievements always leak a few weeks early.

Guys, don't be deceived by the naysayers. This is a GREAT deal, seriously. I just got the app and I can pay $30.00 and download Peggle2, FIFA, and Battlefield4 (I got early access through the Xbox preview program). Not to mention early access to demos and discounts.
If EA does this right it could be like their own Netflix with games.
Deceived by naysayers? A bit dramatic to say the least. I don't think most are concerned about whether or not this deal is "good" or "bad". At least with me, it's not the case. I love my Xbox and would love to have the demo early, but I feel having to pay for demos is going a bit far.
I certainly wouldn't try to talk anyone out of getting it, nor think poorly of them for getting the deal. The whole thing leaves a foul taste in my mouth, however and I personally don't want to see the trend of buying demos become the norm. That's all.

Hmm, this is kind of a bummer since the service looks like something I'd buy, once it gets more games in the vault. But I have a PS4 and this isn't something that would make me want to switch. I just hate all the splintering services. Like with Netflix/Hulu/Redbox, I don't want to have to buy three subs and have three logins just to see the few things I want to see, darn it!
I also assume this probably means we won't be seeing any EA games on PS Now... ![]()

I pre-purchased my copy on Origin, buying direct from EA doesn't warrant early access?

You aren't going to be paying for demos. The demos aren't the draw of this subscription. The "rentals" are the draw. The early access to demos are just icing.

Yes, but people aren't going to purchase this service for early access demos. All of the people in this thread complaining about having to pay for a demo are making it seem like that is the whole point of this service. It isn't. You are paying to have access to whatever games EA has in their vault. The demos are an extra freebie tacked on to make the service more enticing.

Seriously? First they get early access to the dlc, now the f'ing game too? So pissed, it's not cool at all, way to say **** you to all your other customers. //fumes
Or a way to say "Thank you for all the extra funding." to Microsoft.

This was probably more about infrastructure, EA needs access to XBL to grant licenses for games, MS probably was more willing to cooperate or something.
It's also a way to promote DRM on consoles, something they don't need to on PC thanks to Origin.

Paid demos. lul.

Several people in this thread are saying they will be doing exactly that though. And you can bet EA want that. Ca-ching.

I see a lot of people saying they will get it, if only for a month, to get early access to the demo. So, to say that no one is getting the service for early demo access seems a bit "broken window".
You're also missing the entire point. It isn't the service that I find questionable-- it is entirely the fact that the demo is only available as part of a paid service. If it were only early access to the demo and after a few days it was released to everyone, I wouldn't raise an eyebrow. I mean, you can spin it however you wish, it doesn't alter the fact that if you want to play the demo-- you're going to have to shell out some coin.

You don't actually know that the demo is going to be released purely through this service. We know that people who subscribe to this service get access to a certain portion of the beginning of the game and saves of this early access can be transferred over to allow the player to pick up where they left off when the game comes out. EA/Bioware could still release a second demo for everyone to use without save transfer or maybe one like in DAII that jumps around to avoid major spoilers.

I just hope that the darkest of scenarios doesn't come about: the partnership with Microsoft leads to future Dragon Age titles being Xbox One exclusive, the ability to not play the Dragon Age series would leave me (and probably others) feeling some regret for purchasing a Playstation 4 instead of an Xbox One. Ah well, it is what it is and it will be what it will, I suppose.

So they don't have the resources for a demo but they can give Xbone a trial. ha. ha. ha.

I am pretty sure I read something a while back stating there wouldn't be any demo released. I could be wrong, but I think it was on some Q&A thing. Not to mention, it sounds like the trial will be released a week before the game release, if so, that doesn't leave much time for a public demo release. You don't actually know that the demo is going to be released purely through this service. If they do release a public demo, then I wouldn't have an issue. Otherwise, it just feels like dirty pool.

You seem to be confusing trial with demo. While they could very well release the demo, that is not what this service offers. This service offers a full game trial up to five days prior to the release of the game. This is comparable to how arcade games work on 360. You download the full game and can then unlock that game when it releases.
The key difference is the fact that this trial way of doing it draws less resources away from developing the game which is a key problem for creating demos. Basically I wouldn't hold my breath for a demo to be created.
