Am I the only one that thinks this is more about paying for early access and less about "paid demos?"

The EA release says save games will carry over. That sounds like a full game, early experience, to me anyway.

Deceived by naysayers? A bit dramatic to say the least. I don't think most are concerned about whether or not this deal is "good" or "bad". At least with me, it's not the case. I love my Xbox and would love to have the demo early, but I feel having to pay for demos is going a bit far.

I certainly wouldn't try to talk anyone out of getting it, nor think poorly of them for getting the deal. The whole thing leaves a foul taste in my mouth, however and I personally don't want to see the trend of buying demos become the norm. That's all.

I'm not sure why people think this is a dead cert to mean a Demo, it could just as easily be that you get the five days as a trial period after that through, once it is officially out you have to buy the game to continue your saved game. Nothing in the article says a Demo a Trial Period can be the full product for a certain number of days.

I miss demos and EA has alot of games I'm willing to try and buy most likely but not for me right now. Hulu Plus,Netflix,Crunchyroll, and XBL Gold are my currently black holes in my wallet.

Yeah, I'm not sure what difference that makes, or how it should make it a better practice. Either way, you're getting to play a portion of the game-- as you would a demo.

This isnt pre-access to DLC content. This is the actual game and whether its a trial or a demo is semantics. If its a trial with full features, that's even worse, IMO.

Once again, let me stress the fact that I don't care who buys it. That is their choice as consumers. As a consumer myself. I can believe that allowing pre-access to gameplay-- whether trial or demo-- for a price is a little too much and as a consumer I can choose not to participate in it. I have never bought a demo or a trial and I don't plan to start.

What's next? What about making 1-2 companions exclusive to xbox one owners? Everytime i think my opinion about EA couldn't be worse, they proof me otherwise.

So we have time exclusive first story DLC and a earlier access to the game ( no matter if it's some kind od femo or a time limited full game) for owners of the worst sold  plattform, excluding the big majority of the potential Dragon Age Inquisition purchasers.

There are still some months waiting for the game, so I'm looking forward what exclusive content for xbox one owners will be announced next.

Yes, "deceived by naysayers".... You just reinforced that statement by insinuating that this program means "having to pay for demos" which is a total falsehood.

Sony thinks this is not good value, which is why it's not on the ps4.

I hope other publishers copy this idea. Ea's games don't overly appeal to me. They mostly consist of sport games which are fired out rather frequently. Dragon Age is the only game of interest at the moment. I allready own Bf4 the only other game that interests me at the moment.

Just picking you as the first one i saw, but all those people saying that it was unfair to PS users will they now change their view on hearing that EA offered the service to both Microsoft and Sony and Sony turned it down. In other words, Sony could have had it but they said no. At that point it would be unfair to Xbox users to be asked to pay for a service and  then hand the Sony users some of the benefits of that paying for free. That would be the unfair practice. now Sony has the right to refuse a service, but that comes with it consequences, one of those being the other guy accepting it may well get an advantage.

In this case I do think the number of cross platform EA games sold will favour the Xbox One more on games with that preview feature, simply as folks will in many cases want to continue their saved games. Sony is really then betting that it's PS+/now service will make up the difference.

Eh. It doesn't seem like a good deal to me. I don't buy a lot of EA games, so a $4.99/month subscription wouldn't be worth it. I understand Microsoft taking the deal, since they've got to do something to move more Xbox Ones, so I'm not going to harsh them over it. And if an individual usually purchases a lot of EA games, this may be great for them. I can wait the extra week. Sounds like there's only going to be a few hours of game available anyway, and I'd want waaaayyyy more than that my first time with the game.

Well, if it was really the full games then they'd risk people just rushing through them and skipping the actual purchase.

Less of an issue with DA:I, but some games are pretty short.

Only the first 2 hours would be nice as well, I'd keep loading different keep saves all week looking what's different already.

Aye, EA wanted this on both platforms.

But you know what, I'm not siding with Sony on this one. Sounds to me like they turned it down because it'd interfere with PS Now, and given the prices on the PS Now Beta($4.99 for four hours of one game), yeeeeeeah naaaaaah. Should've let the gamers decide. Choice is how Sony got the lead on Microsoft at the start of this generation anyway.

I mean seriously, http://arstechnica.c...snt-have-to-be/

^EA Early Access sounds better than that going by the insane prices

Good on Microsoft for landing this. Gives gamers another choice in how they wish to spend their money on games, and Microsoft has been steadily giving gamers more choices in how they wish to get/use things. Choice is nice, and I'm glad they're learning rather than being quite rigid like it sounded they would be in 2013.

Yeah... People don't see to know that Sony turned down the offer, because they thought it wasn't a good value/didn't represent the PlayStation 4 well enough (what that really means is they don't want it to infringe upon PS+). I wouldn't be mad just at Microsoft and EA, but, Sony also, because they turned down the offer to have it on their platform.

I wouldn't be mad at EA at all. EA isn't forcing this on everyone;if they did, THEN be mad.

EA is trying to earn some goodwill with gamers;opening up another way to pay for their games is a hell of a good way to start. And I'm saying that as someone likely to never use it.

I imagine that EA Early Access will win some folks over. If so, great. EA needs the goodwill, given their reputation.

Microsoft having it and Sony turning it down because of PS Now is Sony's loss. Give gamers a choice, rather than making the choice for them, as Microsoft learned the hard way and are still paying for.

Well, to be honest, it's going to look bad for EA anyway. Why? Because Sony turned it down, which, some people seem not to know (A LOT of people, actually), and the fact that it seemingly isn't going to the PC playerbase either (unknown reasons). Instead, it's on the 1 console, which, several deem to be the worst console of the current generation (Xbox One), due to the practices they tried to put in place before the console went live.

It's going to be bad for EA anyway, even if they wish for it to be a kind gesture in an attempt to get back in the good graces of gamers.

The same thing was said of Steam back in the day. Look how that turned out.

People can be swung over to a different line of thinking over time. I think as others have said we should all wait and see how this transpires and develops over time.

It is so early that judging its value is a bit nuts. Better to judge it when time has elapsed;same with the current gen consoles(PS4, Xbox One, Wii U).

I've preordered the collectors edition. I want the physical copy, and the gadgets and stuff that accompany it. No slim amount of discount will sway me from that. Early access or not!

Wow, interesting.

That presumably means people will be playing an Xbone trial of DA:I up to five days before it releases in stores and online.

Something to keep in mind if people want to avoid spoilers.

5 days prior to release would be a good time to avoid the BSN. It sounds like that is when the first spoiler title threads will be popping up.

Sony seemed to turn it down for mire then it infringe on their ps plus, still need a gold member ship for it on xbox one.

They where pretty general on their reasons on why they turned it down, perhaps it is nothing more then paying for demos and they just aren't using the term demo anymore. A lot of games do that now and just call it early accesss. Reminds me of all the early access stuff on stream now -_-

Whose incharge of marketing for Ea anyhow?
