I'm pleased to see that Blackwall's portrait includes the grey streaks in his hair and beard that were in the concept art. I hope that means that they've made it into the game after all.
Me too Andraste, me too.

I've removed some posts.
Stating that the artwork is for kids is implicitly stating that those that like it (in this very thread, or elsewhere) are childish or immature themselves.
Feel free to dislike it, but if you're going to state it's for children, I'm likely not going to keep the post around.
Alright then, the arwork is too cartoony and simplified for my tastes. Now better?
Sera's portrait would go a long way to keeping her out of my party
It's alpha gameplay. I'd say the artwork and animations(which were just slowed down DA 2 ones) we've seen in the video are long gone. E3 build which is probably closer to the retail version, had neither.
Read her profile bio.
And Mike Laidlaw's comments about her.
So yeah, I do know enough about her personality.
Really, so there's no room for character development or even some form of advancement? That's quite bold.

Have to say I am not a big fan of these icons either. They are taken from concept art, right? It's great but it's very different in style with the game itself. Kind of stick out too much. Do hope we will be able to choose the look of these icons and one of the option will be good old in-game portraits.
No, I'm not trying to start an argument here, but all I am saying is that characters can easily turn out to be something different. Whether through layers or just development. Look at Jack in the Mass Effect series or even Alistair in Dragon Age: Origins.

I know about that, but Sera's personality is just that: a fun, sarcastic person. These traits always stay in character. Jack was a criminal and did horrible things and of course changed, but some of her personality did not.
Sera is a thief, she may change in the future, sure. But her personality won't, unless from fun/bratty goes to all serious and not fun, then i'd be annoyed tbh.

Yeah, it's just a picture of her smiling. I really hope she doesn't change so much throughout the game that she's no longer capable of smiling occasionally.
You haven't even played the game. How could you even know that the expression fits her character perfectly?
did you watch the demo? id say that picture sums her up from everything i know about her
Sera looks like she just placed a whoopee cushion on her teacher's chair.
I'm still bummed we're just a glowy hand...
That's my only reasoning for wanting to go back to the screenshots from the first 2 games.
I like the portraits, Sera seems like she'll be very fun to have around based solely on that.
Though where's the Cassandra and Varric portraits?
I don't mind them. When I'm playing the game, I won't be looking at them, I'll be enjoying the gameplay instead of worrying what an icon looks like.
Wow. When I first saw it, I thought it looked creepy, but it looks way better at this resolution. All i want is the Sera icon to get to the final game. I love it, it just captures Sera perfectly.
I really like these icons! Don't know what other's problems are about. I think they make the characters unique. I would have prefer the dragon helmet instead of the glowing hand for the inquisitor icon.
I don't have a problem with portraits and as a matter of the fact I rather like them. I don't get it why some people nitpick over such small details that won't affect their gameplay or their story.
I would have prefer the dragon helmet instead of the glowing hand for the inquisitor icon.
I think you can choose between glowing hand or the Inquisition symbol (as seen in E3 demo) for your PC icon. I'm not sure but I think there will be at least two more to choose for your Inquisitor icon.
I actively hate portraits in 3D games.
I don't think anyone disliked how the portraits worked in DAO. I can't imagine whey they didn't just stick with that.
But given that they appear to have gone with 2D portraits, I desperately want to be able to use custom portraits. When I can do that, I prefer 2D portraits.
If I can't do that, then I prefer the DAO style.
I prefer the 3d approach mainly because it can handle any character design and/or mods easily, while 2d portraits would require dedicated artwork for each variation (which is, incidentally, probably the reason why DA:I has just generic symbol thing for the PC)I actively hate portraits in 3D games.
Ofc being capable of handling modded characters would be less of issue/advantage with DA:I given there's small chance there's going to be mods for it. Still being able to have a decent portrait of my own character that'd actually resemble the character... that'd be nice.
Of course we will still try. ![]()
We should be able to use our own custom images. Like BG. And NWN. And Project Eternity.
Custom images as in the aforementioned games would be great indeed. I can't see it happening in Inquisition, but I wouldn't say no.

I didn't "dislike" how the portraits worked in DAO, but I much prefer the 2D portraits to the 3D model.
I love Sera's portrait, looks mischievious, doesn't bother me that its cartoony. It just makes it appealing, though more likely she will have a regular version as other titles had previously.
