Could this be a thing?  Especially for the Inquisitor.  To this day I remember first playing Origins and admiring the party portraits. I loved that my character's face was shown in a similar vein to the companions.  It contributed to the feeling that he was really a part of that world.  He wasn't the "PC", he was Darren and a person who belonged in that world just like the companions who fought alongside him.

The stylized portraits for DAI that we've seen in the recent gameplay video are kind of neat.  Now I personally feel they're a bit cartoony and out of place but that's not my issue with it. To me, representing the Inquisitor with a symbol but allowing unique images for the companions creates the idea that while companions have a special personality and characterization, the Inquisitor is blank and impersonal.  This wasn't a failing of past games and I think it'd be great if DAI could continue this trend.  I know we can't have options for everything, but one way or another I would like the in-game images for the Party UI to return.

I agree.  Whether we like or dislike the current portraits is irrelevant.  The current style makes the Inquisitor seem too dissimilar from the rest of the team... as if they are interchangeable so long as they have a glowy hand.  I doubt that we'll be able to change this... a toggle between cartoon and in-game portraits would be great, and it sounds really simple to incorporate, but would they really think of letting us do that?  Probably not.  At most we'll probably be able to choose from a few different icons...

On the other hand, maybe those icons were placeholders, and the usual in-game portraits will be in the final product?  It could happen...

I agree, I liked having a play about with the portrait, changing the back colour etc. I do like the icons used in the new game though, maybe they could have a male/female in the same artwork style for each race

Meh, I like it the way it is, even though I vastly prefer the older pictures. Anyway, what they could do for the Inquisitor is probably give them a picture that represents their race, similar to the little icons that showed a character's race in the DA:O status screen.

I kinda like the stylized portraits of the party folk, they look like murals and it's kinda cool. The eye representing the Inquisitor isn't. The fact that the past two games used your face really helped immersion, they became people, more than an idea. If they were to keep the mural idea, I'd love it if they let us make our own for the Inquisitor. Like even if it was a template (one for each race/gender combo) and then colour in the blanks, I would be happy. Shepard just being an "N7" symbol in Mass Effect really bothered me, and we saw it less than we see our Inquisitor's portrait.

That all being said, the demo wasn't final. Those could have been placeholders.

Yeah, I'm torn. The companion icons look great, but the glowy hand as a portrait for the PC is a bit depersonalizing.

Or we could you know go back to the BG way of doing things and allow us to upload our own portraits from our images.
