Shepard's timeline or not, does everybody really want to play an N7 again?

The whole N7 thing, to me, seems pretty superficial. Beyond the logo, nothing really relates to Shepard. I mean, in ME1, you were introduced to the idea of the protagonist becoming a Spectre rather early, and then becoming one became entirely necessary for the plot to continue, so almost immediately, you were now a Spectre, and then lived outside of the Alliance for an entire game, then automatically retained Spectre status in the third. The only time Shepard even talks about being an N7 in the entire trilogy is if he/she talks to Vega about him becoming one.

This is why I don't have any issue with BioWare creating another protagonist affiliated with the N7 program. Truth be told, we really don't know anything about it. Not including DLC, it's rarely ever mentioned and as others have suggested, Shepard being a Spectre overshadowed his N7 status.

I believe it would be a truly compelling story to have an in-depth look at the program and seeing the player work his/her way up the ranks. This would lead to an entirely new experience we have never witness in Mass Effect, while also offering some familiarity.

Fair enough. But they're only about an hour worth of content combined, representing about 0.5% of the trilogy.

KaiserShep's and my argument was that the trilogy was not about Shep being an N7, and that point still stands.

don't forget the OTHER crappy side missions that Hackett pawned off to ya in ME1. chase some space monkeys & retrieve the stupid data module, retrieve the stupid missile, get rid of Darius, get rid of Father Kyle.......list goes on and on.

they may be an hour or two's worth, but that's still an hour or two too many.

I don't see the problem with the ME1 side missions, seeing as how none are obligatory, though unlocking the specialization on Luna is a must for me. I liked the Father Kyle mission, and just about any mission in which I have the option to end it with just dialogue, but I have to say, getting rid of Darius is easily my favorite mission, because he's such a piece of crap, especially if you have FemShep, it was a pleasure to shoot him and his men. Hackett's response post-mission is also amusing.

I don't really give a toss about n7. I never identified it with mass effect or shepard at all.
But that's just me.

well.. i played the first game without even knowing what N7 was, i think it was at some point in ME2 i looked it up because it was on all the armor..

By the time i got to ME3 i forgot what it was again.... I was trying to figure out why there was so much hype about it since it seemed entirely irrelevant in the past two games..

I just dont want my character to have a forced stupid obsession with earth or humanity when i want to be out in the unknown, as long as its not that ill be happy.

Shepard being a Spectre overshadowed his N7 status.

And now we'll have Shepard overshadowing N7 dude. They could avoid competetion by making new protagonist different. They even said there won't be "another soldier in the universe".

And we have N7. Ok then.

You know you no one was forcing Shepard to do them, they are just there if Shepard has moment to spare.

N7 soldiers are cool, the new protagonist doesn't have to be one though.

I would love to play as N7.

I think it would be amazing to actually start the game as an Alliance Marine who gets invited into N7, and you start as N1 and work your way up.  It would make sense, as when you eventually hit N6 I believe you get more freedom and get your own ship and assets.  Nothing close to what Spectres get, but more or less the Alliance's equivalent.

This is something appealing about N7 and being an Alliance soldier in a galaxy like Mass Effect. Part of me would like to see us been part of a platoon of Marines.

The only N7 I care about is Shepard. Since we won't get Shepard back I'd prefer something different like a merc, colonist or corporate operative. Taking orders from the Alliance is getting old.

Most of them but not all of them and it still doesn't change the fact Shepard isn't being forced to do them.

I'd like to see them implement the option to play as different races,  ME 3 multiplayer showed that it can be done.  I know the ME team is different than the DA team but they are working with the same tech and making the game with the frostbite engine so if they can do it in DAI there is no reason it can't be done in ME next

No reason? How about the freaking plot?

No I don't want to play as a N7 human, simply because whatever this new human will do will be measured up against Shepard and fail. You can't beat Shepard, sorry. I would've loved if we could pick our race in this one. Atleast it would've been something new. Drell FTW!!

I'm fairly certain that any new protagonist would fail compared to Shepard, N7 or not.

No, I don't want to play as an N7 or a Spectre again, especially not as a human N7 or Spectre. I've done that enough as Shepard, I want something new. I wasn't even big on being military in the first place. This time I would have preferred a non-military alien.

Multiplayer doesn't have to deal with certain species reacting differently to certain other species. It's NOT as simple as just making a body model for each species. Making it work in a story is a lot more difficult than putting different bodies in a horde mode game. They need different vocals, including words (Turians don't speak like Asari, Humans don't speak like Turians, all of them speak nothing like Quarians) so it's not just a matter of putting on some cool effect and calling it a different species. That would be like playing a human in a halloween costume with a voicemorpher (or hoever that's called).

I prefer a great story, a great hero and great companions, than species origins choice.

I would actually like to see how the other military divisions operate like N5 and N6, they got mentions in war Assets in ME3 but it would be interesting to see how they operate or even interact with each other.  Plus see if the different N ranks like to poke fun at each other for fun.

I would like if the new main character would be with Cerberus and trying to rebuild it or even the new boss.

I feel like Mass Effect without the iconic N7 would be like a Star Wars film without any jedi in it.

They didn't say they wouldn't create another soldier. They said you wouldn't get Shepard 2.0.

You can have two characters who share the same profession and who are nothing alike.
