First off thankyou to Patrick Weekes such a fantastic book i really am hoping for more dragon age books from you in the future.

On to the topci-This book really has changed my opinions on Orlias  before i was kinda meh freldan forever!!!! but after reading it  i really feel like im going to support the grand duke. the empress was such a crual and unlikable person towards the end that i was hoping briala would realize she wouldnt keep her promise but the grand duke has proved that he will hold to any promise he makes.

so to round up i plan on supporting the

Grand Duke

Briala (im and elf man)

 the Templars

Well, "The Masked Empire" certainly cemented my distaste for Orlais, my opposition to Gaspard and Celene, and affirmed my inclination to side with the elves, especially if Briala is working on organizing a pan-elven network to free all the elves. I am hoping for an option for an elven Inquisitor to condemn Celene over the massacre of Halamshiral.

I've decided to keep switching which one I side with until I know which of the outcomes are comfortable enough for me to stick with just one.

Yes, Masked Empire made me a huge fan of Celene and I plan to wholeheartedly support her bid to keep her throne

*It is perhaps a tribute to Patrick's writing ability that fans can come away with such diverse views*

To be honest i should say yes but neither candidate is tempting besides i have no love for orlais. On other side even if they will give me Briala as option her ideas aren't very interesting for me as well.So as always i will support myself.

It really depends on the choices we get I guess.  We may have to pick Celene or Gaspard regardless but the choice to support Briala would be independent on that.  For example, both sides could ask us to kill Briala and end the elven uprising but we'd have the option to not do so when we meet her and offer our support.

Now if we have a choice between all three of Briala, Celene, and Gaspard, it would really depend on the specifics of what each side is going to do.  For example, if we side with Briala, I'd like to know what she is going to do when she wins because we have no idea of what she is going to do if she wins other than she is fighting for the city elves in general.  What would she do against humans and such?

I am curious, what would you have suggested Celene do?

I wouldn't support Gaspard's claim to the thrown, but I would sit down and have a beer with him.

Not kill thousands of elves simply because her naysayers were saying she was soft on the elves? Just an idea.

Then how would she adress the concerns of the nobles?

And let's not forget those elves were in open rebellion and killing humans. They deserved punishment.

The problem is, none of my characters are really inclined to care much for human politics. My only human is in it for himself, my elves will, for the most part, be directly opposed to Orlais no matter what, and my qunari don't really have a stake in it. Perhaps I should roll a politicker at some point...

I bought it when it came out but I haven't read it, so it hasn't influenced me.

Yeah, it made me despise Saddam Celene. Certainly not backing her (the first time). But if Gaspard still has ambitions towards Ferelden, he's out too. Hated how he treated Bann Teagan.

The only one out of that book that I would help right off the bat is Briala.

TME is a fine book, although I like Gaider's books better. Asunder was his best novel yet.

The whole point of Briala's assassination was to hopefully quell the elven rebellion without murdering thousands of men, women, and children, and let's no gloss over the unjustices that the elves had faced that lead to them rebelling. I also strongly disagree that mass murder was deserved.

They were rebelling because some nobleman killed their people for no good reason. You push people long enough, they push back. The did not deserve to be slaughtered by the thousands.

But Celene needed to adress the concerns of the nobles or risk them supporting Gaspard. How would you have her do so?

And while it is true the elves did face injustices, they killed innocent guards and merchants. Would you have her forgive these crimes?

Keep in mind that would have only strengthened the displeasure of the nobles who would then turn towards Gaspard.

Yea the ones weilding weapons yes they should die but burning a chunk of the city and killing the women and children unforgivable i always hot the feeling that even the grand duke was shocked that the empress went that far.

Their grievances do not justify the murder of innocent humans. And they were, of course, in rebellion which was being supported by elves who didn't participate in the attacks on the city.

Are you suggesting Celene coddle a rebellion? That would have enboldened them.

The Masked Empire made me bloodthirsty.

Celene , Gaspard , Briala , the Chevalier Guy , Felassan...I feel no empathy for them.

It's a shame , and I hope in DAI things will improve .

I know a lot of people liked the book , I wish I could ...I've tried to read it again and ...the characters ain't working for me.

They just annoys me .

(Well I felt something for the city elves in Halamshiral and the peasants in the burned village in the middle of nowhere)

At least I got so annoyed I want chaos everywhere in Orlais...I'm not sure I would kill those characters in game ,but I just don't care about meeting them too.
