as much as id like to see not-england give not-france a beating, orlais would crush ferelden
also even ignoring all the outer factors about the two nations as it stands alistair doesnt seem like an expansionist king (they obviously wont vary ferelden's direction based on the ruler sadly enough and alistair is the most popular so they'll take whatever desicion he'd make and apply it across all the potential monarchs)
in terms of the timeline th french realized that england had conquered most of their country threw political marriages and it took them a hundred years to boot us out. this was when they thought the normans were on their side tho so dont underestimate will and being sly as fook about how you cripple an enemy.
