Look at the new Dragon Age Inquisition Features Combat video. It looked like crystal shards.

My thoughts.

Magic and the fade are different things. The fade is just another road to magic.

Since there are other forms of attaining magic, the fade is simply just one of them. The fade rifts look like green versions of lyrium because they are the mental/metaphysical form of "magic", while the physical form of magic is the lyrium we know (blue, don't know about red).

The other sources of magic are blood/life force. The more separate "road to magic", however, is the Taint. Darkspawn don't sleep or dream, but they use magic. Even their dwarven versions are expert magic users. It's obvious, they get their magic from the Taint...or something in the taint.

Things that look like crystal are magic in the physical form.

(from Vroom Vroom)

Blue Lyrium is the physical form of magic

Red Lyrium is corrupted magic in physical form

Green/The Fade Rifts is the spiritual form of magic.

Thanks to him, I myself think Red Lyrium is blood magic in it's physical form. I wonder if the Taint is the physical form of other magic. There are no shards of black lyrium, maybe the taint is a concept of "black lyrium" in a form, since it's nature is corruption, and disease.

I don't really know squat about Lyrium, but after reading your post a thought crossed my mind that maybe:

Blue Lyrium is the physical form of magic

Red Lyrium is corrupted magic in physical form

Green/The Fade Rifts is the spiritual form of magic.

Again, I don't know much about Lyrium, just trying to spark a conversation/friendly debate.

Edit: I do agree though, it looks like green Lyrium to me.

Don't mention "red", "blue" and "green" together in the same post. Those words combined together cause BSN to spontaneously combust.

I would be interested to see if there's more lyrium outside of the red and blue we've already seen, certainly.

Actually you're right on the money

I now think Red Lyrium is blood magic in physical form. Aha! Thank you, you just made me realize something..

I nearly posted blood magic in physical form, but I am not sure if it is entirely the same thing as corrupted magic. Do you think that all the unearthed Lyrium or the wide usage of Lyrium could have caused the Fade Rifts? Anyways, always glad to help.  :)

Dragon Age exists on an Earth of the Multiverse. The Fade is the destroyed remains of Krypton. The Maker was Jor-El. Kal-El is presently in Thedas growing up with the Starfang Farmers.

Blue lyrium seems to be a less destructive form of lyrium that can lead to addiction.

Red lyrium is definitely destructive, considering it makes lyrium behemoths.

So green lyrium takes the best of both worlds and puts them together with no flaws. Maybe it's the apex of lyrium.

Well, they are descendants of the ancient Tevinter magisters, after all. Or so we've been told.

So the Black City would be black since it's made out of black lyrium?

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that there must be green lyrium if there's green light coming from the veil tears, but there sure does seem to be a correlation between the color and the source of energy.  Spells that use elemental magic are colored accordingly.  Maybe the veil tears release power that is different than red and blue lyrium.  It would be interesting to see if the pattern continues and we find other sources of power in other colors.  I'd like purple if anyone's taking requests.

Strange, because technically that's all anyone sees. Get it, because of the three base colors?!

That is simply the colour of fade tears I believe.  If you recall Blackmarsh from Awakenings it had that green glowy kind of thing going on.  The 'First' from the black marsh part even has a green glow in palm thing going on if you go to the dragon age wikipedia page for black marsh.

Well we already had Superman in DAO, maybe Solas is Lex Luthor and the lyriums are going to be his weapons to stop DA-Superman.
