Hey let's take a trip to beautiful downtown Bakersfield, California and kill a that pesky capital reaper that's been wiping out the town center. I think that would have been a fun side mission.

True, but they've got a lot of cops there. You know how many times that city has been on the TV show COPS? They've done so many meth busts there. Say, would that be a good thing to do? Get the reapers hooked on meth? No. Bad idea. But they'd start stealing from each other so they could buy more, and maybe organics could triumph over synthetics. Hmmm.

Guerrilla warfare through the streets of Bakersfield. You command a platoon of Alliance soldiers.Your mission: Kill a reaper. Make it like X-com and I'm sold.

I count four for the Reapers, myself. N7: Fuel Reactors, Ardat-Yakshi Monastery, The Rachni, and Turian Platoon. But I'm not sure this is a very sensible approach to the topic. We're probably better off talking about Bakersfield.

Technically we fought the Reapers in more priority missions in ME3 vs Cerberus.

 

However we fought Cerberus in more missions overall in ME3 alone. I haven't done an analysis of the trilogy missions yet.

 

It seems that Cerberus was always the main antagonist of the series. We were suppose to understand that.

 

Now my question is why we were fighting the reapers...that made no sense.

Maybe Bioware preferred to use Cerberus rather than the Reapers.

I think the Geth and Cerberus should have been switched in prevalence.  In ME3, the Geth were relegated to one story arch, and almost no mention since despite the fact we had been fighting them for two games and the schism allowing there to be enemies while still letting them be war assets.  We also know that the Geth had the military might to be a Cerberus sized threat.

 

Thematically, it would also make more sense.  If Bioware was intent on the "organics and synthetics will never get along" angle, then having the Geth helping the reapers would help solidify that theme.  Cerberus could still have its own Rannoch sized arch, but taking them out of the picture should have happened earlier than the endgame, and they should have disappeared after their story arch was complete.  Also, more Geth would make the synthetic targeting powers more useful.  However, I am of the opinion that Cerberus should never have been a main enemy, rather a potential ally after an arch of shooting enough sense into them.

That would have required a massive retcon of ME2's retcon, wouldn't it?
