I wanted to plays as a Krogan or a Turian. Seriously....think outside the box for a bit. I dont want to play another everyman zero personality shephard.

There's no real reason why playing a different species in the game would automatically remedy any issues with the protagonist's personality, or lack thereof. But then, having too much personality inserted into the character would be a problem unto itself for many players who may want to envision a different type of persona.

Its not about remedy personality traits its about excitement, playing another human is boring plain and simple!

I suppose I'm the odd one around here, because I never really found the concept of playing one of the alien races to be particularly exciting either. But I suppose what really matters is how well the option to alternate between races works for the story they want to tell, which, to me, is more important. There are only two ways that I know of that a protagonist can be any race leading a team comprised of multiple species, and that's either by being part of a mercenary band, or the Spectres. We were already part of the latter, but I think it would be pretty cruddy to be forced into the former. It doesn't help that there are far more viable races in Mass Effect than there are in Dragon Age, and DA gets away with this because they're all basically fantasy humans that all live in the same place anyway.

Considering that Shepard was universally loved and that really the character is only as good as the writers make him then having another species is really not an improvement. I would rather have one well done species than a dozen badly done.

I am with you. While playing another species might be interesting for a bit, when playing a game of Mass Effect depth I would still play human. In fact in most RPG's I choose human because by far it is easier to relate especially if there is a heavy story emphasis.

This is key.

Elves are just humans with pointy ears

Dwarves are just small humans

Qunari are just big ass humans.

Hell, Darkspawn are f*'ed up humans.

But Turians and Quarians aren't humans with a funny face, they have very different skeletons. They should walk different than humans.

There's no confirmation whatsoever (unless there is and i missed it, if so feel free to link me) that you'll play only human. And i do hope we can play with different species.

Mass Effect isn't only about humans..... I don't want Shepard 2.0.

Nobody said you only play as Human. Not yet at least. People need to take a chill pill.

you are joking? shephard was universally loved? his plain personality even became a joke in the last DLC. I'm all open for discussions but outright falsehoods like that grind my gears.

The plainer the PCs personality the more you get to.. you know, role play.

It was NOT confirmed humans are the only playable species.

It is only confirmed human will be playable, however other species to be playable is still on the table.

This video from someone who was in the panel's audience suggests that they haven't confirmed humans as the only playable race.

Playable race details at about 0:30:

That doesn't help much, you want your PC react how you want to. Hawke for example had more personality than Shep, since i love sarcastic ladies I could have a sarcastic Hawke. But shep? I wanted to strangle her sometimes with the things she has said.

i would love to play as a hard-as badd-as Krogan with the personality that comes with it. also i dont want to save the galaxy i just want to survive in it. all RPGs its always about saving the world blah it gets boring.

There's always going to be reactions you would do or say but that aren't in the game. They can't account for everything.

Perhaps "universally" is a bit of an exaggeration, but Shepard is indeed a very popular character. He/she certainly isn't largely hated by the fan base.

As for being plain, just look at the Warden. The only character that's more of a brick is Mario. But, people love this character.

The problem was that Shepard had no personality, she was plain. Hawke wasn't.

I wish Shepard could be more sarcastic. So many of these jerkwads were begging for it.

But Shepard is sarcastic:

Mikhailovic: Commander, I am not happy.

Shepard: That seems to be a fairly common situation.

Lol. One or two lines doesn't make Shep sarcastic. Everyone can do it. With Hawke, you could make her sarcastic or serious or mad, any time. It's like Shep had her own personality. Plain one, that is.

God, yes....

Don't get me wrong, i loved Shep. But i felt there was something missing. Maybe they'll do it better with the next protagonist(s).
