Hello,

This is my first time writing. I was watching a video of gameplay from San Diego Comic Con last weekend and something the presenter said was interesting to me. The inquisitor's team ran across a bear and the presenter said that if the bears are hunted too much in an area that they could eventually be wiped out. I know a lot of people who play these types of games want to explore every part of an area to see what they can find, but they may not want to eradicate an entire hostile species.

is there a way to knock them out or put them to sleep so that they can be bypassed? I would imagine this would be a powerful ability which would need to be balanced (ie only effecting low health creatures).

Probably not.

Just run away if you don't want to kill the bear.

Some spells could help: petrify, sleep, etc. Should be tricky but doable. Running also advised. :P

Kill it with fire......or lightning or ice. You can headcanon the last two as it being stunned or put into cryo-sleep.

i would not want to waste spells on animals. They usually move on so you could wait a little bit for them to move on in another direction. If done right, animals should only attack under certain circumstances, like if they're very hungry or protective and even then they might retreat when they are outnumbered. Animals are more intelligent than how they're shown in some video games.

But i think that the guy was referring to hunting animals down / purposedly running after them.

A sleep spell is probably the most humane way of handling it...  you can always hunt humans for exp, right?

I don't know if famine is part of the world problem, but wolves and bears were re-introduced to my area after being nearly wiped out.  The reason they were hunted in the first place was that they endangered people and domestic animals, like sheep, a major source of cloth, dairy products and meat.  I don't know how much realism they're going for, but I think there might be a reason to remove a majority of predators from an area.

Imagine running around a location, looking for secrets and hidden beauty, while having to fight off bears all the time. Any thorough explorer will hunt carnivorous wildlife to extinction through pure coincidence, unless there's a way to remove the threat without it counting for background eco-system.
